The English translation does not do this conversation justice...It takes a lot of discipline to say the least to live next to someone who decimated your whole family. That Rwandans can live through this and within 26 years take this small landlocked country from utter destruction says a lot about the culture and its current leaders . I don’t think I’d be as forgiving... the levelheadedness and thoughtfulness and yes wisdom in these conversations is just mind blowing to me. Thank you for this .EVERYONE should watch this

The little country of Rwanda, the size of Wales, with its 13 million AWESOME citizens, still rate poorly on all economic indicators. The fact that Kagame was able to keep the French built streets clean, is not an achievement for a country that has been responsible for making all our phones!

You are aware that prior to Rwanda, a Burundi President was killed and the same genocidal attacks occurred, to a lesser scale. Who ever brought down the plane, didn’t have to organise a genocide, they knew it would occur anyway. They were Russian made missiles that took down the plane. Taken from Uganda, a staunch soviet supporter. If I know the military will be busy with genocide, that would be an opportune time to take over the country. Sure I can rationalise by saying once I take over the country I’ll come back and help everyone, but the damage is done. The same would apply to the transition government as well. If I know I’m being invaded, I would stop the invasion, then come back to the genocide. The natural majority of the nation would easily suppress the minority, so the “fear of a minority uprising” , does not sound like a logical explanation for the genocide

The specs were to kill Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Tutsis were identified by their ID cards. How do you identify a “moderate Hutu”? The only spec that mattered was to empty Rwanda to make way for the DRC refugees.

I think PTSD must be off the charts. I don't think anyone who hasn't experienced this can fully appreciate the horror they must have endured, and all because one group was told you can kill and steal and get away with it. This must never happen again anywhere in the world, and yet I see the signs of this is some places in the world already. The continued systematic dehumanization of another minority group, government implicitness and greed. I thank all the survivors for sharing their story. Let us never forget.

@Grandma's Lasagna I'm starting to connect the dots now. It's really upsetting. Sorry but I have too many questions and I want to take you back in time so that I know from where it all started. There's a channel on which I saw someone explaining the root cause of tensions in Ethiopia today. It starts with His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie being overthrown by Mengistu Haile Mariam, and if I'm not wrong, The Emperor had his own tribe too, what was it? I also heard that Mengistu was from another powerful family, do you know his tribe? Then came Meles Zenawi who was from Tigray, right? And his people were in power ever since and they became corrupt just like Mengistu and his people. Even when Hailemariam Desalegn was on power, it went on. Then came Abiy Ahmed who is Half Oromo and Half Amhara, even though it's said that the Mother is Oromo as well. So I want to know, in respect of the changes in political powers, how tribes dominated the country as a whole. Sorry If i seem vague in my questions, i just want to know what i will never see on media. And I knew the TPLF was up to no good since their usual mafia activities were being exposed. And I also so other sources saying that they want to be a country on their own? I'm really saddened by what's going on in Ethiopia, I mean it's the only Country, besides Rwanda, that I take pride in and that illustrates the Bravery of Afrika, so to see Ethiopia going through this and being at risk of collapsing, is so devastating. Why the Amhara? Why did they become the prey of everybody?

I mean your comment exclusively trivializes the one group you left out. Men. Genocides almost always disproportionately affect men in deaths and conscription. Additionally, androcide frequently occurs along genocide, because the aggressor wants to eliminate the possibility for revolt. They know men will take up arms to protect women, but not the other way around. These things affect women and children in unique ways, but to say it is worse is honestly just another case of us caring less about the safety of men and seeing ways they have been affected.

@@Nobodyishereexceptadam Well, gender-based violence (such as being carnally violated) is something that affects girls and women a lot more than it does men, so DO NOT downplay our struggles, as us females have MUCH worse than you guys do. But as per the testimony, the militias were, “running too because they’d heard the RPF bullets.” 18:49 And that they were, “on the run too, not one survivor must remain.” This could indicate that the RPF began their advance earlier, from a different country other than Uganda, or within Rwanda itself? The people who want to blame Europeans for this are irresponsible! This has nothing to do with whites. These people (the Hutus) had a deep-seared hatred for the Tutsis. Listen to the testimony of the woman who said they told her to "go back to Ethiopia where you people are from" as they nearly killed her. And the woman wearing green said that since elementary school she would hear Hutus refer to Tutsis as less than human.
