Maria Calavera's weapons are called Life and Death. According to RWBY Wiki 'It consisted of a pair of kamas that she used for close-quarters and ranged combat. Her weapons could connect at the tip to form a twin bladed staff. After she lost her eyes, she now uses her single remaining kama as a walking stick'.

@@MarrowsRedemptionArc No, if Penny's aura went back to Pietro, he wouldn't have a problem using the same amount of aura he gave her in the first place, which would mean he could create her an infinite amount of times, which has been confirmed to not be true as he said that if she gets destroyed again, he won't be able to recreate her as his aura is at it's limit. And on another note, the maiden powers can only go to females, Penny is a robot so she's basically genderless, which means her soul merely adopted the powers, as some sort of vessel, but Pietro is a male, they can't go to him.

But considering that she's a robot and that she has the aura of a guy, I don't think she could be called girl in the biological way, but like I said, her soul has merely adopted the power like any other of the maidens, but in her robot form she is more like a vessel as I think someone mentioned in the show, plus, Fria gave it to her directly, without knowing she was a robot, so that could've affected too. *Spoiler V8* I know that she ends up turning into a real girl at the end of Volume 8, but she got the powers before that.

It's a while ago, but Cinder stole the Fall maiden from Amber and she's the one who damaged Amity. Raven stole the Spring maiden from a runaway Mistralian novice whilst using Vernal as a decoy, Vernal also died sacrificing herself to aid Raven in the battle of Haven. Also Salem appears quite pleased with the message. The cinematography worked really well with the music in the fight, it's definitely an important component of what makes this show great.

to add to this, cinder stole part of the fall maidens power before the series started (we learned this in a flashback, the road fight they were talking about), but Qrow managed to save amber before cinder stole all of the maiden's power. in S3, cinder killed amber, and all the rest of the power went to cinder.

Do we know that Raven stole the Spring Maiden power? I've always believed that Summer Rose was the last Spring Maiden and gave Raven her power before she died.

Yoooo that was a crazyyyy episode. It’s brilliant how we see Sun and Neptune where they are currently in the timeline of the books after that god tier battle. Glynda and all the other cameos were cool too. I gotta give give it to Penny’s VA, she gave her best performance this episode and she’s probably one of my favorite voices in the whole wonderful show now. Not sure how I feel about that Grimm river but it seems pretty interesting. Salem looked happy at Ruby’s broadcast so I’m afraid that after everyone is lured to Atlas there’s going to be MAJOR casualties.

Maria Calavera's Semblance, according to RWBY Wiki, 'which she nicknamed "Preflexes", allows her to sense everything better than most people and react to attacks almost before they happen. She can even react to attacks that outside her field of vision, such as people shooting her from behind'. I think Maria's Semblance helped her when fighting against Neo who has an acrobatic fighting style that can be difficult to counter, but during this fight Maria also got distracted when Penny was in danger so Neo managed to attack her from behind despite Maria's experience and Semblance.

You're misremembering. Cinder got her powers from Amber in Vale. Vernol was Raven's figurehead that was hiding the fact that Raven was the maiden.

Also Pietro coughs a lot, and I don't know if the reason is ever explicitly stated, but I believe it's implied that it is because he doesn't have a complete aura. He has approximately 1/3rd of the aura that he should have, as the rest of it he transferred to Penny during her construction and reconstruction. Every person on Remnant has an aura, even if they are incapable of manifesting it defensively or using their Semblance - it's basically their soul. Pietro's really the first person we've seen that doesn't actually have a full aura aside from the Grimm, so I imagine his poor health stems directly from that (though tbf he could also just have some sort of chronic illness, as he has coughed pretty consistently the entire time he's on screen).

Amber was the fall maiden Cinder siphoned power from before ultimately killing. Vernal was presumed to be the spring maiden until Cinder attempted to siphon the spring maiden power from her and killed her. At that point, it was revealed Vernal was a decoy, and Raven herself is the spring maiden. While Cinder managed to steal a tiny portion of her power during the battle (same with Penny in this episode), it seems to have been an inconsequential amount. So the maidens right now are: Cinder - Fall Penny - Winter Raven - Spring ??? - Summer

I think I'd wager that the hand stealing the power only works when critical points are passed. So it being interrupted quickly by Penny fighting back or rocks falling like in the Raven fight might just mean she gets none of it.

All the Maidens so far: Spring: Raven Summer: Unknown Fall: Cinder Winter: Penny In Volume 5, the whole plot was around Raven having someone pretend to be the maiden so that she could hide it. Its why we got the epic fight at the end with Raven and Cinder which resulted in Cinder losing and being frozen off the cliff. At the end of that Raven ran away and we're yet to see her! Hope this clears some of it up. I'd really recommend going back and rewatching the series haha

lol... guys, you keep misremembering this topic, Vernal was never the spring maiden, she was the decoy, Raven is the one that's the spring maiden, she fought Cinder at the end of volume 5 when Cinder tried to get Raven's power and the relic (the lamp). Pretty sure they're simply not that interested in this show-they misremember/forget basic details pretty frequently. Two other examples in this episode are Maria's weapon and Cinder's Grimm hand that steals Maiden powers. I completely understand though; not every show will connect with them in the same way. Hopefully they enjoy the rest of the season!

@@itsneuro Well that not fair, they only really watch the show through once. They take notes, but like most people can't recall everything. Combine with the fact that they react and disscuss a lot of shows one a day to day basis, and the fact, Rwby for them was awhile ago, it not easy.

Ah super fun reaction as usual!! To help clear things up: Cinder's grimm arm lets her suck out the maiden powers out of a maiden. You were right to remember a flashback of Cinder fighting on the road (w/ Emerald and Mercury) where she stole the Fall maiden powers from Amber back in vol. 3 which yall also brought up was supposed to go to Pyhrra since Amber was basically on the brink of death. Like yall named we know 3 of the 4 maidens, Penny the Winter Maiden, Cinder the Fall Maiden and what I'm sure yall have seen sprinkled throughout the comments, Raven is the Spring Maiden while Vernal was a cover (she died because of Cinder's grimm arm when she mistook her for the Spring Maiden). Raven isn't necessarily a good guy from what we've seen with her actions of her wanting Qrow dead and stealing the lamp for herself but after her talk with Yang she may come around soooo who knows if she'd be up to help the good guys

My personal belief after seeing salem turned people into grim, is that shes trying to gather all of her daughters old powers. Putting them into a grim parasite, using cinder as a host, and once she gets all of them, taking the parasite into herself to become the only maiden but with all of her powers.

Cinder is the Fall Maiden - she killed Amber in Vale to get it then killed Pyrrha for trying to take it Raven is the Spring Maiden - Vernal was a decoy for her Penny is the Winter Maiden - she was given it from Fria in Atlas. Summer Maiden is still unknown. Pietro is coughing because he gave a significant portion of his Aura to Penny and it cannot heal him as such.

Do you think it's one of those things where Salem only really needs Cinder to have a "sample" of each maidens' powers for her plan to work because she already did touch the Spring Maiden a couple Volumes ago. Be interesting to see that she only really needed some of the Maiden power and she's only going all out because she's an overachiever.

I think the point mostly were the relics though. They are lock by the Madiens. Since Spring relic in Salem hand, she doesnt need Raven or her power. Becan relics still lost, but Cinder has that power. And Atlas relic, but they know Penny power, so they know where to get Winter madien

This isn't the first time Neo actually gets hit in a fight (I think her fight with Cinder was) but its for sure the only time she gets hit TWICE. (Mind you, Maria is a smaller, more experienced opponent who isn't reliant upon sight. Pretty much the perfect counter to Neo outside of a Juggernaut like Hazel.)

Maria's semblance is also a hard counter to Neo. "Preflexes" gives her superhuman reactions. Neo relies very much and raw finesse to dodge and keep her opponents off-balance. Not much help against spider-sense.

Even according to one of the writers (Eddy), Oscar's punch was stupidly telegraphed and from what we know of Neo, she would have never been hit by a ten-yard punch like that. When you compare it to fights like Yang vs Neo, or even something like Cinder vs Neo, calling that fight "awesome" is dishonestly generous.

Maria doesn't have real eyes, so Emerald's semblance isn't ocular... but it also works on Penny, so it isn't telepathic? Unless she has an actual brain in there... and doesn't freezing superheated stuff make it explode, or is that just xenomorphs? Speaking of, the mech even had something resembling the Weyland-Yutani logo on its arms. Anyway, great fight; been a long time since we've seen Cinder use her full repertoire, and actually use her brains for once... nope, never mind, she lost again. Penny drops, and I start hoping for a showdown between the G-1000 and an endoskeletal P-800.
