It's so relatable to me that they don't really know how to help Ruby at all, because they have relied on her/her hope so much until now. The Cat's dialogue was so good! The "I don't go by, that's for days and years" line sounded right out of Alice in Wonderland! Also, leave it to a character in a fairy tale to provide some fourth wall stretching meta-commentary.

This episode is great! On season 2, when they were on a mission with one of the professors he asked each of them why they decided to become huntresses, and Ruby was the only one able to give an answer, and now after being a huntress for so much time she was the only one not able to give an answer. Poor Rubs is going through some rough times.

In Volume 2, Ruby would have been able to give an answer, but she was never asked, which is still a parallel to what's happening now

How this chapter parallels foundational scenes in the Beacon arc is really intriguing: Volume 1 Chapter 3 The Shining Beacon with Blake’s cynical “That’s very ambitious for a child. Unfortunately, the real world isn’t the same as a fairy tale” juxtaposed with Ruby’s hopeful “Well that’s why we’re here… to make it better” and Volume 2 Chapter 9 Search and Destroy when Weiss, Blake and Yang’s hesitance as Dr.Oobleck questioned why they decided to become Huntresses juxtaposed with Oobleck not questioning Ruby as she was the most resolute. Now their circumstances became inverted, Ruby took Blake’s philosophy to heart and vice versa. The one who was determined and gave others hope is now wavering and hopeless. Damn, this is the GOAT!

Back in Volume 7, Salem delivered the first cracks in Ruby’s psyche with the implications of Summer’s fate, but I think the Curious Cat delivered the final straw by not giving Ruby a chance to face the challenge to her identity herself. Now she will always be in doubt whether or not she could’ve answered that question herself, and if she really is lost. Great review and analysis, great chapter too. Looking forward to your next video!

The contrast between Ruby's unwavering optimism in the past Volumes and her current state now is striking. As she grapples with the challenges and trauma of her journey, her once unbeatable spirit now needs guidance. In contrast, Weiss, Blake, and Yang have matured and gained valuable experiences along the way, making them more sure of themselves than ever. In the past, Ruby's steadfast confidence in her abilities had overshadowed her teammates' uncertainties, but now the tables have turned.

The contrast between Ruby and Blake, Yang and Weiss in this episode was perfection. Those three had their struggles and doubts but have learned to overcome them and accept who they are faults and all. But for Ruby? It's all past a breaking point. She's had to endure the guilt, the failures and the loss again of those close to her to a point where she can't even look at the person she used to be.

Did y'all notice, in this season's intro, when team RWBY is following Alyx's footsteps, Yang, Weiss, and Blake run faster and faster with their heads up and eyes looking ahead, while Ruby walks slower and slower with her head down.

This showed the negative side of people relying on one person to "keep going" and "not losing hope". Everyone was so dependant on Ruby to "inspire" them and to keep going forward while they dealt with their own baggage that, while they got better, Ruby got worse.

It's easy to forget at times because of all they've been through, but they are all still quite young, it has only been about two years inworld since Volume 1, if all went as normal Ruby would have only just started training at Beacon since she is now 17.

ruby was put into the leadership role at such a young age- not only is she two years younger, but ozpin made her the leader of her team and told her she needed to put everyone first before herself. it's really sad to see just how that weight of leadership has only gotten heavier and caused her to struggle so much since atlas. she blames herself but can only press on, try and be a good leader for her friends, and suppress everything that has been building up over the past volumes. it's so ironic that ruby is the one that is big and has to LITERALLY carry her team on her shoulders too. im scared for her but this development for her character has been long awaited and i ultimately hope it can help her grow, even though it wont be easy.

Someone said it in the last episode but Alice In Wonderland has been in the Public Domain for a very long time now. Disney's version including the songs are NOT public domain. But the story as a whole is.

Fun Facts: Fact 1: The episode title refers to the Curious Cat, who directly calls themself "a cat most curious" in the episode. Fact 2: Ciel Soleil is mentioned by the Curious Cat. This marks the first time she has been mentioned since her minor appearance in Volume 3. It also references how many people want to know what happened to her. The reference was particularly aimed at MurderofBirds, who is friends with many Rooster Teeth employees and had jokingly created a campaign to bring Ciel back into the series. Fact 3: The conversation between Ruby and her past self serves as a parallel to her conversation with Blake from “The Shining Beacon, Pt.2”. Fact 4: Weiss, Blake, and Yang declaring themselves as Huntresses serves as a callback to “Search and Destroy”, when Oobleck was asking the three of them why they wanted to become Huntresses, and they couldn’t give a clear answer.

I feel like it’s just a confirmation that she will go back to that weapon blacksmith and choose to become someone else after she broke down and ran away.

But I feel like Juane is who Ruby needs to connect with and be reminded of all the great things she's done & how she is the best huntress. And maybe Juane needs to connect with Ruby as well. On the one hand I want to respect that not everything is everyone's cup of tea. On the other I want to say the only thing forced here is your hating on one of the better segments of this series. It sounds suspiciously similar to things people were saying of the last two volumes that was blatantly foreshadowed since Vol 2. But that's just a guess. And I *am* trying to focus on that first hand.
