@@laurarosier ALPN (pronounced alpine) is a second name for the team of Jaune, Nora, Oscar, and Ren. JNOR or ORNJ are both used for this purpose as well. I personally prefer ALPN or JNOR over ORNJ because Oscar isn't and should not be the leader.

This is a weird thing I noticed, but during the first fight, notice how Ruby waits for her other teammates to make their moves before she dives into the battlefield. It's a big step forward from the first volume, where she charged the Deathstalker recklessly without warning. It also shows her fighting style is centered around moving around the area at top speeds, which she can't do safely unless she knows where her teammates are.

1:32 I love when Weiss puts those black glyphs under her enemies to make them float! I feel like that's a really underrated ability of her's like time dilation that isn't used nearly enough, especially when compared to her summoning

But lets not act like thats the reason she never uses it. The current crew doesn’t have the same vision for fights that Monty had. Which is fine of course, but it’s noticeable.

The Qrow and Tyrian Vs Clover fight has some absolute GOLDEN choreography. In fact most of the fights this volume had great choreography what a wonderful volume all round.

It’s like they listened to the fans saying that the earlier volumes had better fights. Like Raven and Cinder was awkward and weird with giant swords? Monty liked to have close, well done choreography, personal fights and it feels they’re trying to do a mix between close and distant fights. Where they use their semblance more. I like 7 and 8 fights a lot and am excited to see V9. First 4 minutes and 25 seconds are out too :)

@@raineecho4005 To be fair, Crow probably thought that he couldn't convince Clover to fight against Tyrian, but it would have been way better if it was a FFA but Tyrian still stole his sword to put the blame on him. For Crow to side with Tyrian whom he should've known had malicious intent was to be honest blatant stupid.

If you look into it Ironwood vs Watts is a microcosm of his defense against Salem. He did nothing to make the battlefield better for himself, got absolutely no help from anybody, had no contingency plans in case he failed and put all his faith in his own weapons. Didn't even pack extra ammo. To top it all off, the only victory he had after all was given to him because it furthered Salem's goal.

@@beesbutinabox1105 It's complicated. He's not truly evil even now, but he is also completely driven by the thought he has to be what defeats Sallem. And that plays straight into her hands. He sees himself as a Hero making sacrifices to ensure that the greatest evil in the world dies. But all that means that Salem just has to push his buttons and he will do all the work for her. Pretty sure Ironwood was going to ditch the scene as soon as she showed up and Ruby and co would never be on his side for that. Salem's skype chat and Ruby's deception only accelerated how fast they cut ties. All in all there's a reason that his theme is "Hero" not Soldier or General.

"Hmm, I'm fighting 2 equally skilled opponents, one who actively wants to kill both of us, and another who is purely defensive because I'm attacking him. I know, let's focus on the guy who's purely being defensive instead of the literal serial killer, because that's what I was told to do". Yeah, Qrow did join in and turn the fight from 1v1v1 to 2v1 which was stupid, but if Clover had at the very least apprehended or killed Scorpio over here, Qrow wouldn't have felt like he had to knock out Clover first.

One aspect of Blake's fighting style that they were never able to recreate is her dual-wield backhand style. They made good attempts in this Volume and the previous one but it didn't feel the same. It looked so different when both were backhand instead of one forehand and one backhand (I know you're good with swords Blake but you're not Levi). After she strikes with both arms, she would spin around to make it easier to flow to the next strike and repeat. And her clones would give her some momentum to help her spin around faster, thus decreasing the lag between attacks. She would also use it to quickly propel herself in different directions (not that she still doesn't do that, but now she only does it for dodging and not for attacking), making it easier to charge towards her enemy from an otherwise, unstable position. And she wouldn't just do it once in a while, she would do it multiple times in quick succession to allow for lots of quick strikes in a very short amount of time. Like when she attacked the Paladin with Weiss in Volume 2, or when she ran fast circles around Torchwick while attacking him at the same time. I'm not saying that the fights I'm seeing here are bad. I enjoyed all of them, actually. You can very clearly see how much they've improved since switching to Maya. For starters, I'm glad Weiss is finally using melee attacks again after so long, and seeing Qrow punch that one Grimm was pretty cool. As was the one shot in the alleyway when they fought Tyrian. But unlike the others, Blake's fighting style feels completely different from what it used to be I really hope they think about that.

🤦😧🤦 (I can't believe I didn't realize it till now ) 16:15. Look closely at the arm, and how he can't use it after, how it's floppy instead of tight, and how there's a slight glimmer, how there is line designs on it... It's muscle tissue....... Iorn Wood didn't get burnt, that shield thing doesn't produce heat, it's a solid platform. That's why it only hurt him when he started struggling, his arm was trapped skin tight all around..... Iorn Wood didn't BURN himself.... He SKINNED himself... He RIPPED OF 1-(possibly) 3 LAYERERS OF HIS ARM. (The "steam" was just showing his body heat. Like if you're gutted "steam" will roll off and come out of you . It's HOT under our skin, blood is HOT) That is SOOOOOOO much darker/twisted..... If you think about it, (this was a heroic act yes).... but I think THIS is when he lost it (basically went insane and lost most empathy) , NOT when he shot Oscar. Shooting a CHILD that also shared the mind of his closest friend was just him PROVING that he'd decided his fate..... He'll now kill and sacrifice any man, woman, or CHILD that stands in his way. That's what Ozpin's speech was talking about when Oscar was falling (and some of the past messages from the last 2 volumes). In all ways that matter Iorn Wood is dead, he killed himself in certain ways that insured he wouldn't fall victim to "weakness" ,to certain feelings of "remorse", he insured that he wouldn't hesitate to do whatever it took to shape the world that he saw it fit to be. Just like Cinder Just like Adam Just Like Salem. RIGHT NOW, go listen to Ozpin's speech from when Oscar was falling..... Now think about Iorn Wood in this volume. Shooting Oscar& Ozpin.... and sacrificing the innocent for the "greater good" proved that Salem is already winning. Iorn Wood lost. Salem beat him.😞😧😞😧😞😞😞 HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE THE DEPTH IN THIS SEASON?!??!?!!? 😭😭😭😟😭🙄😵😵💖😭😵😧💖😟💗😧

@@zero.0-0 well there is that. And there are others who just like different genres. Some prefer the school theme, some like more character development and others like the old animation style. There is also the plot, some people prefer the characters to interact more, they like more story development than fighting. I'm just one of the few that is sticking to it to see how it ends.

@@jaimevanberkel6096 I like Marrow and i get where he's coming from, but here's a hot take anyway. Marrow shouldn't have hesitated against Weiss. As controversial as this might sound, Harriet and the rest are right. They have their orders and they're gonna fulfill them. That's what soldiers do. If he was gonna take on Weiss, which he did, than he should have done so wholeheartedly, expecting to win. Weiss was a threat, it's not like it would be immoral to hurt her. She attacked Marrow first so he should have done all he could to take her down. Even if the rest didn't all lose their fights, just him failing to take out Weiss because he hesitated could have directly cost the rest of the ace ops the fight, as it arguably did for Harriet. Anyways, i like Marrow i really do. However his reluctance to do what essentially is his job, while also not out right refusing to do it should, in my opinion, not be idolized.

24:51 was the most heartbreaking battle to see. I watched every episode and I was so upset when I saw Clover and Qrow fighting. *Especially Tyrian joining in.* When Tyrian stabbed Clover, I was like: *"NO! FUCK YOU TYRIAN! YOU SON OF A BITCH"* Yet when Clover was about to pass away, I was on the verge of tears. When I Refuse To Starve's beginning part played, I definitely started crying. The horns reminded me of the military song played for my grandfather at his funeral and so it was so close to it that it got me.

"They are shipped together" Isn't a valid response because the makers themselves really didn't make that happen. @@mistressofdreams6031 actually if you look at marrow's semblance when used against a flying penny, you can see that it doesn't freeze them but rather slows the movements of the person to a halt when you see her thrusters still working in real time while she is "frozen", so time dilation could work as a theoretical counter depending on how much faster is speeds them up. it would also explain why marrow doesn't use it in the crystal cave fight vs the Geist nor the crystals that fall off.

I really enjoyed the fights, but the one thing that bothered me was in the first fight, and like the first fight in Volume 6, was that the grimm were killed in one slice. Heck even the Beowolves were more powerful, but I guess they could have improved a lot. I would have liked it even more if it wasn't a one shot kill.

I came back to this comment cause while putting together a video I realized they've been doing this for a while. In the finale for volume 2, they one-shot pretty much every grimm. Blake literally kills like 5 grimm, one bullet each. I agree though, it shouldn't be that easy.
