RWBY Character Analysis; Lovecraft and the World of Remnant

Really cool compairson here. Squiggles has so far not appeared again, but that does not refute your idea. There is a definite Lovecraftian vibe to Remnant, and it does not seem like an accident. HPL's big thing was that the universe by and large was an unfriendly, uncaring place, and we poor humans were less than nothing, like an anthill on a playground. Salem wants the power, but the power does not care whether or not she ever can access it, it just exists for its own selfish reasons. I like how you went to the Dreamlands aspect, since Azathoth (and his friendly spokesbeing Nyarlathotep) seem like the right negative-impulse creatures that empower the dark mojo of the Grimm.

You know, I really doubt this was intentional, but there's a buzzing attached to the video (static) and it somehow makes the entire thing like 100% more creepy. As for the theory, I've been expecting a Lovecraftian Horror ever since we learned that Grimm get larger and smarter with time. Imagine, if you will, the FIRST Grimm. The Oldest, Smartest, most Powerful of all Grimm. A being so vast and unstoppable that merely waking up would shut down human and faunus desire to fight back, and leave all of Remnant in a state of absolute despair. I think the moon itself is that Lovecraftian Eldritch Leviathan Grimm, and the "shattered" part of the moon is in fact tentacles surrounding a single central eye. It may have covered itself in the moon to hide, or the moon may have coalesced around it naturally. But I still think the Moon hold that final Grimm. I also think that when Ozpin referred to his "simple soul" he meant a soul that would look at this entity and, instead of falling into despair, either be able to comprehend it and not fear it, or lack the complexity of thought/emotion to fear it. All said and done, I LOVE the idea of a Lovecraftian Eldritch Leviathan Grimm Horror of some sort being the end-game goal of the big bads. What would make the story even more realistic (and compelling) (and long lasting) is if the heroes simply do not have the ability to kill it - only put it back to sleep, or keep it dormant. Then the nature of the war with the Grimm changes from "we can win" to "we must endure". Anyway, awesome video, awesome creepyness, awesome theory. Can't wait to find out more!

Thanks, yeah sorry about the buzzing. I tried to tweak the volume so it wasn't too noticeable. I'm working with a 6 year old computer command mic. It's good but at high volumes it picks up some static. I think the idea of an unkillable lovecraftian grimm works well in the show. I doubt the end goal is to really "end all grimm" but to just survive and end the plans to throw the world out of balance.

Oh no I liked the static buzz. As I said, it somehow managed to make this a tiny bit creepier I thought. Would be a bittersweet ending for them to sacrifice so much just to go back to living as they had been. I hope they at least gain some ground from it all in the end.

Mastermachine100 Well the way I see it Grimm represent all the negative aspects of the world. All the evils portrayed through monsters. The world is always gunna have good and evil in it, represented by Hunters and Grimm. So sealing off a big bad or ending a plot to end the world would still fit. The show ending with a "and the story continues" sort of thing. Like the world carries on long after the show ends. (But let's be honest, this is Rooster Teeth. They'd make spin offs with new teams till the end of time as long as we all watch it lol)

Funny thing about that is that 2 years later in volume 6, yes the war with Grimm is endure since Salem is immortal.

A synonym for "hopelessness" is despair... Salem is trying to instill despair in the hearts of man... If your theory is right, you are saying Salem is the exact same as Junko Enoshima. That is a weird thought. But not too bizarre.

Well this was an interesting video. In a way, I guess you were right. Relics would bring Gods back to the world to be judged and they truly don't care for humans, they are just a side project that can be (and was) wiped out due to inconvenience.
