My thoughts on this one at first were a typical “listen to your parents” type of story but adding the grimm who can kill just by infection, without aggression and just simply passing through each body added a great point to this story. As kids we’re often baited into doing something immoral to gain respect if we’re called cowards but turn fearful when shit really starts poppin off and that can have big consequences when we don’t own up to our actions

So what I’m gathering is that the Chill seems to take on a invisible form, or at least is hard to see. Granted this story takes place at night so it could have easily blended in with the shadow of night.

I wonder if there's a kind of natural weakness to the Chill. Like for the Apathy. Some theorize that its because of the Silver Eyes, but I personally like to believe that its because of Ruby and Maria's personality and drive that they could resist the distant effects of the Apathy. And would that kind of strong, positive attitude help someone survive the Chill for longer? Would they need to have, as Bulat from Akame ga Kill says - "A Fire in their Soul"? It'd fitting for a metaphoric fire to warm someone up against the Chill.

My first reaction was that it seemed akin to a changeling tale, where a child would get taken away by a fae creature and replaced with one of their own. Said tales usually involved far less murder than this one since the changelings weren't strictly evil, but they were also a complete replacement rather than a possession. A fun fact is that changelings were likely originally used to explain neurodivergent children who behaved oddly compared to their parents' expectations of a normal child.

OZ said that only the white hair and skin was pulled from the witch in the woods, the veins were not. Also I like to think that the chill can create human grimm hybrids, OZ may have lied to the readers so they wouldn't panic. Knowing him there's no telling how much of that story is based on truth, or how much he believes is true because sometimes the truth is not as true as you once thought. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

I recently got a copy of the RWBY Fairytales of Remnant book, and The Grimm Child is one of my favorites, if not my number 1 favorite story from that book, probably because it introduces some new information that's applicable to the RWBY show proper. The other fairytales are all good stories, but most of them are all either fairly normal fairytales, origin stories for the faunas, or slightly altered tellings of the events in The Lost Fable episode. The only other fairytale in that book that *might* be able to compete with The Grimm Child for my favorite story from that book is The Indecisive King (A.K.A.: The King, The Crown, And The Widow), mainly because it seems to give us a pretty solid hint as to what the Crown of Choice relic does.

I think this story was used by Ozpin to describe his own personal experiences with Salem after his first Reincarnation. He was warned by the God of Light that Salem had changed, but he ignored him to seek her out. He didn't want to accept that the woman he once loved was gone. He feels that Salem exploited that to manipulate him into helping her dominate Remnant. She tried to make him as apathetic towards the godless humanity as she had become, and convinced him to rule over them at her side. But one day, Ozma looked at his reflection and realized woman he loved had been replaced by monster, so he tried to leave with their children before they could be corrupted by her any further.

Unlikely it sounds like they're extremely rare if Ozpin had to interview Veteran Huntsmen and Huntresses just to get an accurate idea of what it's like and honestly would you feel satisfied if one of the cast were suddenly possessed and had to be killed almost outta nowhere? Maybe in a darker version of RWBY that had very Goblin Slayer like tones but not in the current one
