Some cleverness: Hazel can block out pain. So when Salem was assaulting him with those Grimm hands, she didn't start hurting him: she started suffocating him. One of the hands was covering his nose and mouth, and he gasped for air afterwards. I guess that's one of the only ways you could really torture Hazel: not pain, but extreme discomfort.

You can clearly see his mouth at 13:41. He's not being suffocated, he's just being held down. One of those claws is probably making breathing uncomfortable, but I think it's more just the tension of being in the position of having his head being clutched by a grim claw.

Honestly I believe Oz was innocent as Ozma but Ozpin he was different person. I think he broke when he was the inquisitor carnation when he found out there was no beating Salem. Unless the theory of "him" not being able to but someone else could is true then hes probably looking for someone like either Jaune (if the theory of his bloodline ties with ozma) or ruby (silver eyed descendant)

Gather the relics to summon the gods, causing all of humanity to be judged. Which is inadvisable) 4. Keep running away and lead more and more people on a wild grim chase. 5. Keep himself locked away in best boy Oscar's mind forever.

I'm still bothered by how nobody cared about anything from Jinn's story besides "Salem can't be killed." No compassion, no empathy. I feel so bad for Oz. Merc is best bad boy. My thought that he has developed a crush on Emerald grows every time I see them together. One thing I noticed in this episode was the jewels hanging from Salem's hair. One is red, one is black, and one is yellow. And her hair and skin are white. I wonder if there's a reason for that...

People keep saying Qrow overreacted or they expected better from him, or are just mad he punched Oscar. But I keep thinking how perfectly in-character that punch is. Qrow was never the most stable individual- his introduction was him getting drunk and instigating a fight with Winter because he was mad at her boss. All we've ever seen was his badassery and care for his nieces, but I think he's actually a very unpleasant person usually. His acquaintances in Haven all seemed pretty shady, and it stands to reason Tai casually refers to him as a "jerk" and doesn't like him being alone with Yang or Ruby for more reasons than just Qrow's semblance. I think we ought to wonder just what kind of man can go on long-range scouting missions into Salem's domain and keep his sanity, and just what that man might do if he found out it was all for a lie. I think by punching Oscar he let him off easy.

Nealon Miller I think Qrow just felt extremely betrayed. I mean I think he loved Ozpin as the father he never had, and he was always incredibly loyal to him throughout everything. He picked a fight with Winter just because Ironwood went behind Oz’s back, and he was the one who took up Oz’s duties and cane while Oz was reincarnating into Oscar. While Qrow may be a dick at times, I don’t think he’s a bad person at all deep down, he just acts that way to cope. And now he thinks that most of his life has been a lie and that one of the people he cared about the most and devoted himself to was just using him as another pawn to be used and discarded. Since Qrow is the member of the group closest to Oz, his reaction should be the most angry.

I think QRWBY need to calm down and stop with the being mean to Oz. Dude dies from sickness, gets brought back to fight the woman he loves, tries to live a life with her, but cant do it and that life is ripped apart. He then reincarnates again and again, trying to live and plan as best he can, and even uses the relic to try to find some solution to beat Salem, which there is none available to him. They're making him out to be the demon responsible for all their woes, when in actuality, Oz is just an old man, trying to fix an old problem that has a slim to no chance to fix for him.

@@sketchbookonline2040 I feel like they'll wanna attack him on knowing where the relics are. But I understand the reason why he didn't gather them; humanity isnt ready. If he gathered them, after Jinn informed him where they where and what they did, the Gods would have returned and erased everything. If they were in his shoes, if they had been through everything he has been through, I bet they would act and behave the exact same way he does; an tired, immortal being thats trying to find an answer to the problem, but is running out of options. Actually, I just had a thought; maybe the relics were Oz's last ditch effort. If he couldn't really find any way to defeat her, if he had no other option, then he might've brought the relics together, and allowed the Gods to destroy it all. Better it all be erased, then having Salem corrupt everything.

To be fair, it would be pretty hard to believe that QRWBY could have absorbed all this information and just taken it all in stride. This was literally the biggest lore reveal in the history of the show; it's only natural that the other characters' reactions would be of similar magnitude. I'm not saying they're necessarily justified in being so mad at Ozpin, but looking at it from their perspectives it's understandable why they would be. I'm quite sure that at least some of them will cool down a bit and start to think everything through as the season goes on.

I agree with Arnold on the whole Ozpin situation. This dude has the fate of the world on his shoulders and he is forced to play this game of chess with Salem. He is trying to keep as many of his pieces in the game (alive) as possible, be it Pawn or King, but Salem only cares about her faction. But, at the same time, she doesn’t. If one of them dies, oh well. Ozpin, even when he was Ozma, fought for what he thought was right. I myself am a pathological liar. I lie to try and get myself out of trouble, but even people who know that about me know when I lie, it’s to lessen my involvement or to take the blame for someone else. Just because Ozpin is lying doesn’t mean he is a bad person. He is lying because he knows from experience that the brutal truth (eg the dead must stay dead) can have serious consequences (the wipe out of ALL OF HUMANITY). And to say that he is lying therefore a bad person isn’t just. Also, a personal theory on Maria Calavera. Do you think she lives in that village? She led everyone to it, and she takes charge almost immediately, as if she’s like ‘Listen up. If we stay here, we die. If we move, we might survive. Trust me, I’ve done this before.’ She also makes a comment saying something along the lines of ‘And I’ll be damned if I’ve lived this long just to die out here in the cold!’ To me this shows she has braved the cold once before and has probably lived through at least once almost fatal incident. Jesus Christ this is a long comment. Sorry to anyone who pressed ‘Read more’!

Honestly, I truly feel for Ozpin right now. He's been left with the task of uniting humanity with no way to really complete the mission himself. Only four relics meant to call the gods back to the world so they can judge it and given how Jinn said "You can't.", I guess even the relics can't kill Salem for good. They set him against an immortal opponent who was once his lover with no way to kill her, the biggest threat to uniting humanity. Yes he kept secrets, but they need to understand he had his reasons. Can anyone even imagine how it must feel always being on edge wondering who will betray him next and when? Heck, their actions just now proved all of his fears in Ozpin's mind, they'd be lucky if he's so willing to trust them after this. Ozpin, I may not completely trust you, but I do understand you now. You truly have a shitty hand in this farce of a mission from the gods.

@ Matthew Riddle Yes I completely agree with you and the ironic part was how yang was the first to turn on oz after telling him that he could trust them. I feel like Ozpin not having a plan isnt completely true. His original plan seemed to be to seperate the relics and keep the forces of grimm down so humanity could actually progress in relative saftety.(A fact everyone has seemed to forgot) We also have to realize any plan Ozpin might have had went out the window after the fall of beacon. He's in recovery mode just trying to make sure the relics don't fall into the wrong hands. Right now the world peace Ozpin has been working on for so long is falling all apart as we've seen. Atlas closing borders, the world panic after losing beacon, and the war that might be brewing between atlas and mistral. So yea they're might not be a plan to defeat an immortal being right now from ozpin, but i don't see anyone with any bright ideas either. Alright rant over. But i can still see why the team is upset and I hope they realize what I've just said after the've had so time to cool down and apologize to ozpin because this war isnt going to be one by fighting each especially the only other immortal on your side.

-No one wanted me. I was cursed. I gave you my life, because you gave me a place in this world. I thought I was finally doing some good. -But you are ! -Meeting you, was the worst luck of my life. -...Maybe you're right. I just love this conversation. I was waiting for it since Volume 3 and it turned out even better. The beginning is just perfect, Qrow having his hopes for humanity crushed and Ozpin trying to save them. Ozpin is the only one Qrow trusts and would protect with his life as well as his nieces, and here he feels betrayed, like giving him his life was useless. Qrow didn't punch Ozpin right after the flashback, he punched him after he said he has no plan. No plan, and still he sends them fighting while he knows Salem can't be beaten. The last part was unexpected but still great. The fact that Qrow doesn't look Ozpin in the eyes is very interesting. He isn't showing him his full anger, and he isn't watching Ozpin's pain. It seems that he can't leave him completely. "Meeting you was the worst luck of my life" Qrow wishes he never met Ozpin. He'd prefer be an Anti-Huntsman as his sister and him planned and go back to the tribe than everything which happened. And, I guess, he's talking about how people died in vain. We can feel that a lot of their words are actually about Summer (She died but he has no plan, the luck part and the "Maybe you're right" when Ozpin realizes why Qrow is so mad at him) Surprisingly, the more I watched and the more I understand their two last sentences like that : "Meeting you was the worst luck of my life, because now I cannot leave anymore." Qrow isn't free anymore. He has to stay because he has people to protect (Ruby, Yang, ...). Now that he gave his life to help Ozpin protecting humans by fighting Grimms, he can't take it back. And Ozpin's word "Maybe you're right" is him understanding too that Qrow, even alive, doesn't own his life anymore. That's why I think he leaves. I don't think one side is more guilty than the other. I fully understand why Qrow punches him and in fact, I would have been surprised if it wasn't the case, since he basically learn that Ozpin was just "playing" with him, sending him risking his life while he knows the truth (and since he is basically the "reason living" of Qrow, this one just kind of think now he was just a pawn.) But just seeing Oz crying like a children... Yeah, he is clearly not the bad guy. I just can't wait to see Ozpin's return. Pretty sure he'll be back at the end of the season to save Qrow, still this was a great episode and my favourite of this volume so far. Can't wait for another episode and Arnold's reaction.

I agree, I feel like ozpin was a father figure for qrow, whether Indirect or direct because weren't they orphans at some point, him and his sister? Ozpin sees that he robbed qrow of being in control of his life and he feels painful about it and agrees with him on meeting him was qrows worst luck. It's sad really, I feel like he may have had a plane somewhat centuries prior but it got lost the more Salem's mark was made on humanity and the world and seeing how he can never really get rid of her.

I can see why people have a problem with this episode; the way that team RWBY and Qrow act is hard to see; but as far as I can see it, it is justified. Now, don't get me wrong; Ozpin did what he could under the circumstances, he tried his best to defeat/stop Salem for years until one of his past lives were able to ask Jinn a question of how can he defeat Salem; and Jinn saying you can't. I think what Jinn said; was meaning you can't, as in Ozpin himself can't. Ruby or others likely can. I mean Ruby has her silver eyes, Cinder has her maiden powers. Maybe silver eyes mixed with maiden powers could put a stop to her in some way? Not saying that Cinder will team up with Ruby, I mean we have other maidens that could potentially end up teaming up with Ruby and co. I love Ozpin; I don't hate him, and I totally get where he's coming from; yeah he lied, but I think he's still hoping that there's a way that he can stop Salem in some way. But I can also understand where Ruby and co are coming from as well. I mean Summer Rose died (as far as we know), Ruby lost her mother at a incredibly young age; Raven left the family because she didn't think that Ozpin could win and didn't trust Ozpin. I can understand why everyone is currently upset at Ozpin, he did what he could/did under the circumstances, not all of the things that he did was right; but he did try his best. Also minor things in this episode: I loved seeing Emerald and Mercury in this episode; it was brilliant. Seeing my crazy psychopath Tyrian back was amazing as well. Mercury and Emerald actually get lines! That was crazy. Watts being Watts; not much to say there. But Hazel; man as for a bad guy he's a very admirable bad guy, being willing to take the blame for his teams failures was just really sweet to see from him. I mean the only reason why he seemed to have joined was because his sister died, so I think deep down he is a good guy. (As weird as that might sound). Poor Emerald, she has freaking PTSD; which is completely understandable at this point. Way for Mercury for being there for Emerald; loved that moment, also he seemed to be one of the first ones to notice that Salem was going to go crazy; probably because he grew up with a crazy father. While there were moments that were hard to see; there were other moments that were just great to watch for me (in my opinion).

I think the scene with Ruby giving Oscar the cane was what the spooky Grimm arms in the intro were about. Qrow is so willing to give in to despair at this point, but Ruby, like always, does her best to be positive. I do find it interesting that Ozma had no hand in the Silver Eyes, or at least that it wasn't something it was hiding- especially because it has a strong effect on both the Grimm and Magic. Also, can we take the time to appreciate how great Maria is? Maximum Grandmother.

@@dhanushbatreddy Ozpin didn't drag Rwby into an unwinnable fight. They came to Beacon because of reasons seperate from him. He obviously let Ruby in earlier because he wanted to employ her like he probably did her mom, but he didn't tell Ruby anything, he was probably going to wait until they actually graduated like Strq. Ruby was the only one who was potentially going to be brought into this, but it's also her own fault. After the fall of Beacon, Ozpin was only looking for Qrow, Qrow was the one who brought RNJR with him, and RJNR were the ones who decided to do whatever the hell they were doing on their journey (I actually have no idea what they were trying to accomplish). All Ozpin did was train them and die, when he came back, they were the only ones on his team, and Qrow had already told them so much that they couldn't just go back home. At that point, he didn't really have a choice. Also, he didn't ruin their lives, he gave them a chance to fight. He built the schools, he protected the relics, he tried to bring the world together. Just about everything Ozpin has done has kept the world from getting destroyed by Salem. Ruby and Yang wouldn't even be born without Ozpin.

@@ventustbb3229 They just had a battle against a horde of Grimm, survived a trainwreck, and found out the Relic attracts Grimm ergo Ozpin broke his word on not keeping any more secrets. Then he goes on to *defend* his secrecy before realizing he doesn't have the Relic. Then Jinn is summoned and exposes *another* of his lies. Then they see the past and learn Salem is unkillable. All in the space of a couple of hours, no less. So they haven't had time to unwind and process everything that's happened, despite all their powers and abilities they're still teenagers. So if you were expecting them to act rationally after everything that went down then I daresay you were expecting too much. Give them an episode or two to unwind before you start judging them.

Ozpin is not a bad person but he's just in a bad situation without a solution. Team RWBY are upset with Ozpin, which is surprising but understandable as they had placed their trust in him and it backfired after realising they are on a suicide mission without a plan and without hope of succeeding. I got to give credit to Hazel for what he did was honourable but Salem? better not get on her bad side!

Looking back upon the previous chapter, I think that Oz also gained new information about Salem. Remember when Jinn told them that neiter Salem nor Ozma told each other the entire truth when they were together? From what Jinn told them, Ozma didn't know that Salem's anger (over his death) was the reason for humanity's first death. It shouldn't be far from the truth to assume that Salem didn't tell him that she was immortal until she learned the meaning of life and death - Salem didn't want to die, but rule with Ozma. Ozma told her the entire truth, but Salem withhold hers. So now Oz knows this and mabye can come up with at least a plan to get the relics out of Salems hands, but not united - there is not enough unity in the world for humanity to be judged fairly (except if they can unite the world somehow in this quest).

I think she will guilt trip him, or Cinder could actually have interesting character development if the "Pyrrha Transfer" theory is true, even though she got very little of the Maiden's power. There must be a reason to keep her alive for so long. I don't think Pyrrha will come back anytime soon honestly, maybe not at all. She could possibly be resurrected by one of the Gods at the very end of the series if the show has a happy end. Outlook isn't looking that great though.

The PTSD she suffers is becuase of Ozpin's war. She lost her relationship with her mom becuase of Ozpin's war. Some of her friends have died and everything they've been doing, as far as they're concerned, has been for absolutely nothing. Its perfectly reasonable for Yang to be upset. She's also got a lot of pent up anger from having Blake around - she's trying to keep calm and move on but she can't let go how Blake left them. Ozpin also has his justifications for lying. Both sides are right. That's called good writing.
