Volume 9 better be a sort of "Breather", a chance for everyone in and out of the show to take a chill pill after that angst fest we all endured. All the possible evidence I can exhibit from ComiCon was Lindsey Jones (Ruby's VA) saying that there's a scene where Ruby "goes in the water" and makes a weird laugh.

Most likely. Every Volume follows one of the Four Seasons; 1+5: Spring. 2+6: Summer. 3+7: Autumn. 4+8: Winter. Meaning Volume 9 will be Spring.
