Nice use of a latching relay. May I suggest a small 7805 circuit for the 5 volts. The resistor to drop may heat up and fail. I’m also a fan of using a relay to drive a relay as that headlight circuit could draw more than 10 amps. Great video, gave me a lot of good ideas. Thanks for sharing. Be well!

because it contains a high percentage of lead, AND antimony....thats a hardening agent when its alloyed into the lead...the tin makes it more "watery" when its in a molten state, but is generates surface oxides that inhibit the bond with copper.....thats where old school 60/40 rosin core shines for electrical work!

Joe, your mic's must have some kind of noise canceling feature because when you run the bike/drill/lathe it squelches it. I don't care if I hear your drill, but the bike is a different story.

its because of the high-frequency noise.....the mic cancels/mutes it to keep people with noise sensitivity from getting their eardrums blown out...lol working on how to get what i want out of it, without it compromising the rest of my audio, so please bear with me....definitely NOT a techie-guy!!

My dad drilled into my head, never use the key to kill the bike. Something about the kill switch shunts the regulator, the key doesn't, and you'll burn up the generator. I don't know if there's any truth to it, and, it was 40 years ago. But I've always used the switch, and have only replaced like two generators in 40 years, and one of those was due to a magnet that came loose and chewed up some windings.

the one in the video is a generic 7x12 harbor freight mini lathe (made by Seig, for HF, Grizzly, and several others...) my "new to me" bigger lathe is also a "import lathe", its a 9x20" ( same as the grizzly g4000, jet 9x19, and a few others)....we have a fairly clapped out smithy 12x20 at work, but im looking for a replacement for it, as its showing its limitations for what i do commonly on it it kind of depends on what you plan on doing, and how large your expected workpieces are going to be....for the small-ish stuff i do at the home shop, the mini lathe got me good 80% of the time, but it definitely showed its limitations on larger things pretty quickly
