Screw hammering veneer, with all that Titebond has to offer and with vacuum pressing it is easier and works a lot better.

Anthony Boudreaux not a bit. It’s a quarter sawn pieces though so I would be stable anyway.

If you veneer the cupped side of a two ply veneering, will the panel straighten or must you apply both sides relatively quickly JIM

Great video. Thanks for putting it out. A question on paper backed veneers; why? Why paper backing? When would you use them? Pros and cons? Thanks!

the paper stiffens the veneer as well as adds thickness to the veneer layer. Truthfully I think it allows veneer manufacturers to use even thinner slices of wood. I have never tried to use it with this technique but I have used a paper backed veneer in a typical press and clamp approach. I imagine it would still work with hammer veneering.

Paper back veneers work best with contact cement.

how do you properly sharpen a toothing plane?

tony bologna the same way you sharpen any plane blade. The teeth are recessed so it’s the same bevel as a normal blade.

Why why why why why why do you Americans always plaster glue onto both faces of the veneer. You DONT do this. Just use a spray bottle with a little warm water. Dampen the reverse side using this. So much less mess. Try using an iron just to lightly warm the substrate first before applying the glue. I could go on and on. You don’t Join veneer the way you showed in this video. You overlap the two pieces and then cut the join using a strait edge and a veneer KNIFE. If your going to give people advice make sure you know what your talking about. 4 out of 10.
