Best video on veneering I've seen to date. I had no idea that there was a right and wrong side when it comes to gluing up, and the tips regarding adhering wet and dry to the contact side of a straight edge to prevent slippage, and the thin-strip cutting jig were absolutely priceless! What a superb craftsman and teacher you are sir!

I'm with you, but unfortunately many still feel it's a cheap form of furniture or cheating. I think this started back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's with introduction really cheap imitation mass produced plastic veneers and sort of stuck. Personally I am very happy with veneers and solid edge work as long as the construction and sub-straight materials are of a sufficiently high enough quality and not Chipboard of fiber density panels. These materials do have their place and function but for me it's definitely not high end craftsmanship built pieces. Cheers Steve

Steve Thanks you have just answered a huge problem for me. I have been trying to make banding for drawer front for William and Mary highboy. The veneer had to be cut in a haring bone pattern and had been a huge pain now I can use the spacers blocks and it works perfectly My thanks Jim

Hi Angie, The way I would do large numbers of sheets is to clamp them between 2 sheets of plywood and put them over a table saw. I would prefer a Table saw but is may also work on a Bandsaw with a fine tooth blade. Cheers Steve

How can fibers be cut only on one side?

Same way as shaving comes off a plane or chisel blade. When it curls you'll notice the underside is broken and cracked while the top side remains in tack. Cheers Steve

You always say the side that bends easily, but it's actually the opposite side you mark as the glue side?

Hi Yolanda. I would suggest using a Veneer hammer or something simliar to put the [pieces into place them cover with some sort of non stick paper and add a heavy weight on top of the paper. Even a bucket of water works fine and is something I often use myself. Cheers Steve
