Some notes: 1. I apologize for the audio issues. I know at times it sounds like the audio is rattling. That's because I was talking way too closely to the microphone lol 2. I should point out that the reason Couch was forced to retire early was because of a shoulder injury. It became a nagging problem, and he was never the same player as a result. I glossed over that in the video. 3. Tim Couch actually got booed on week 5 2002, not week 4 like it says in the video. 4. I know the Gardocki clip has nothing to do with Tim Couch, but I thought I'd throw it in here anyway because it's a classic moment.

We here in Cleveland have had so many bad QBS since 1999. Couch was a decent QB that got the short end of the stick. He is the only QB to lead the Browns to the playoffs. Him and Derek Anderson are the only ones with winning seasons in 2002 and 2007.

I grew up near Cleveland and played high school football there. I saw that game where some of the fans were cheering that he was injured and remembered feeling embarrassed and ashamed that they would do that. Tim had every right to be angry and I wouldn't blame him one bit if he hated Cleveland as a result. The fact that he doesn't is a testament to his character. The majority of us appreciated him for the efforts, respected him for getting up and dusting himself off after every pounding and wished he had more support from his teammates. I hope all is well with him and his family.

To this day, 1 of my favorite Cleveland Browns players ever. He was put into an awful nearly impossible situation. When he cried, it made me appreciate him more. Where others saw weakness, I saw hurt and frustration from a player that have his all to a bad team.

He averaged 12.8 TD passes a year, and 13.4 INT's a year in 5 years with the Browns, with 64 TD passes and 67 INT's. He averaged 2,226 pass yards a year for a career total of 11,131 pass yards. He set lots of national high school records at Leslie County High School in Hyden, Kentucky. He had the most completions (872), passing yardage (12,104), touchdown passes (132), and passing percentage for a season (75.1). He averaged 36 points a game in high school with a total of 3,023 points scored.

The problem with Tim was he was too good and hyped out of college. If he would have went late in the first round and went to a team good team with a good O line, had a couple years to develop he could have been one of the greats. Instead he got hammered and beaten, leading to frustration and lack of confidence. He was a competitor and fighter. That should be respected.

Thanks for the memories , bad offensive line and bad coaching : not his fault : I was at the game that the fans booed him. I was horrified. I knew then the fan base had changed. I missed the old stadium the old rules of the stadium. the old smelly bathrooms. the giant urinal where 10 people could piss at the same time. no cell phones. win or lose it was always a good time and we knew how to cheer and respect our team. and we were loud and rude to the opposing team. thanks again great vid

Having gone to high school at Leslie County High with Tim and playing basketball with him, I'd like to say he was a great athlete on the court and the field. Playing on the next level at UK he had a really good college career but going to the Browns as a new expansion team they didn't have it together. I feel that his pro career was shortened because he didn't have the protection he needed as a QB and the result of this is many sacks and injuries not to mention this beat down his confidence as a great QB. If he had been selected by anyone besides the Browns he would have had a great pro career as say Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Might have even had a championship ring.

Although they look like a good solid team, they beat themselves to lose the first game of the season at Ole Miss and become 4-1, and will probably lose a couple more when they definitely shouldn't; all while Levis is pegged to be a top-ranked NFL draft pick. If only he had an O-Line to make him look like the star he his.

While I have never been a Couch fan I have appreciated his commentary during the Browns' preseason games. I wanted the team to draft Donovan McNabb. Tim threw beautiful deep passes but his intermediate passes needed improvement. I recently found out that he was injured during his senior year at Kentucky. The team failed to build a competent offensive line in front of Tim. In addition, Tim needed a capable offensive to direct his career. The lack of a solid offensive line kept Bernie Kosar from winning a Super Bowl. However, both quarterbacks are first rate people who have special place in the heart of Cleveland fans.

Funny, I'm an Eagles fan and I wanted Philly to draft Tim Couch lol. (Imagine how that would've worked out? McNabb in Cleveland and Couch in Philly) I always thought highly of Couch, and agree he was just thrown to the wolves. He could've been so much more on a better team or in a better situation. Even if he were allowed to sit the whole first year out behind Detmer, I think that would've done him a lot of good. Wasted potential. Sad.

He had franchise QB potential he was just misused in a bad situation on a bad team...Tim had come out of college without reading a playbook he needed to be on a stable franchise with stablilty top to bottom and a secure coaching staff to grow and groom him have 1 year learn the offense take that year in the draft to build an offensive around him its clear he was never confident or comfortable....if he goes to Philly in that draft instead of McNabb with Reid there HE leads them to 4 straight NFC Championship games

Tim really never had a chance, but he did have his moments. I wanted to draft Ricky Williams, but who am I? I was always on Couch's side during the QB conflict. Holcomb couldn't even throw the ball 50 yards in warm-ups before the game. The big game vs the steelers in the playoffs Holcomb had was in very sloppy mud where DBs absolutely could not cover. Machine gun Maddax had 383 that game too if my memory serves. Couch was an unfinished story IMO and injury really ended his NFL career. He is a rich man and married a playboy centerfold, so it certainly didn't go that bad for him. Davis did build the Browns to a playoff team, but he also destroyed that team by creating the QB conflict.

Very nice. I wish you had gone deeper into that 2003 game vs the Rams, That was one of the most inspired games we had played, we had no business even being close in that game and we made it very close. I remember Tim Couch both as being someone we always hoped could be better, but also someone who we were happy was at least good enough to give us a chance most of the time. When we were frustrated at him, we knew at the same time it was also him that made us hopeful enough to win. He was the girlfriend that would drive you crazy but always keep you hanging on. Judging from what has happened since, those almost seem like the best of years. We were scrappy at wide receiver and Tim Couch was often frustrating, but there seemed to be a lot of fight in those teams. A lot of that had to do with Butch Davis I think.

They really were the best of years, sadly. The Browns were still a revered franchise because all the losing hadn't happened yet. I wish Al Lerner survived. He told Butch Davis he was going to give him 10 years to get it turned around. While that may be an exaggeration, I really think he would've given him a long time and we would be better off today. Butch was a fine coach, just a terrible talent evaluator. Al probably would've talked some sense into Butch and had him relinquish GM duties.

Jeff Garcia also made comments after leaving about the negativity of the environment. It seems the media/fans/ownership really can become an undefeatable three-headed monster to players and coaches. Who do you like for HC Ramen? Are you more happy or disappointed that there is going to be HC/GM turnover?

@@max-ru6cz For HC, I don't know who I want. There are so many options out there, some of which I know nothing about, like the 49ers DC. I really wanted Bruce Arians last year. I can't believe they didn't even interview him. At first I was very upset about John Dorsey getting fired, but things I've been reading lead me to believe the move was necessary. Apparently he was a control freak and he only hired Freddie because he knew he could control him. That's a fireable offense because you're jeopardizing the teams success just so you can be in control. Of course I'm upset there's going to be more turnover but I think it had to be done.

The Browns made 32 draft selections in Couch’s first 3 years in the NFL. 2 of those 32 picks were used on offensive linemen, one in the 6th round and one in the 7th. It’s amazing that Couch didn’t get fucking killed

Great Video...reminds me of David Carr. All the skills and ability in the world but was on the Wrong team . The Texans O - Line was notoriously bad. Carr got sacked 76 times one season! And they never had a good Run game which is a good tool for a good offense. But it starts in the trenches! That O - Line is the foundation from which you build and execute the rest of the offense. Derek Carr would show flashes of his cannon arm the few times he played as a backup the rest of his career with the Panthers, 49ers and the Giants..... the latter of which he played like 5 or 6 seasons as a backup. Fun fact in 2006 Carr's last year with Houston he had a completion percentage of 68%! That's impressive. 04' was his best year statistically.....getting sacked 50 times and hurried another 100 🤦‍♂️

Being from Philadelphia, I'm an Eagles fan. I wanted the Eagles to pick Couch that year, instead Philly went with McNabb and the rest is history. But I secretly root for Cleveland all the time. The team has a rich history, i love rooting for the underdog and honestly, I really love the ugly ass uniforms lol. I was always a fan of Tim Couch. He didn't get a fair shot. And I firmly believe, even if Tom Brady went to the Browns during that time, I really do think he would've never lasted in the league. Couch WAS a good qb, that just never received a fair shot. Tim Couch was the last Browns QB to win in Pittsburgh, and the only one to put up a respectable record against them. He could play. For all the shit Browns fans give their team since their return, the Butch Davis Browns were an under appreciated and gritty team that was competitive. They didn’t win, but they were not a National embarrassment. The dude was a completely mismanaged talent surrounded by a crappy team, just like the majority of Browns QB’s since 1999. It wasn’t his fault at all, and I just feel bad for him.

I don't know if Tim would've been a great QB under any circumstance; I personally see him as more of an Alex Smith, a guy you can win with but not elite. But he was a legit NFL QB and his character was impeccable: he was tough, worked hard, and always represented the team and the city with class. He didn't win a ton of games, but he led the Browns to wins in some games they had no business winning. I think he's more appreciated in Cleveland now than when he played, and he should be.

TC was not a bust...injuries to key players and no power running to equate for in that hell power running division...Eddie George, Jerone Bettis/ Bam Morris, Fred Taylor/ James Stewart Jamal Lewis/ Priest Holmes/ Corey Dillon...Cleveland had no power running...although Cleveland could've gotten Santana Moss, Andre Johnson, Ed Reed, Clinton Portius...but all they got was William Green, Northcutt, and Kevin Johnson...

Good video... I enjoyed the trip down memory lane... but on what planet is 15 TDs, 13 INTs and a 55% completion percentage considered "respectable numbers" for a NFL starting QB?

I guess my standards are pretty low, being a Browns fan. Idk, I guess seeing a positive TD/INT ratio was enough to say it was respectable, considering the Browns were a terrible expansion team. When people talk about Tim Couch's rookie season, they make it seem like he was god-awful. Those numbers aren't god-awful.

Couch was in a ruff situation but he also just wasn't built for the Job....in terms of what the Browns were asking out of him....be a franchise quarterback.....tons of other guys could have made those browns teams better than what Couch was able to do and have better individual performances and consistancy.....I have fond memories of Couch and always will but he was a BUST #HEREWEGOBROWNIES
