Madden 12's cover athlete, Peyton Hillis had a strange career. Went from a fullback, to star runningback, to out of the league in the matter of 5 years. He will forever be a one year wonder.

1. i'm not a cleveland browns fan 2. players hold out and get paid I think holding out is rarely not a mistake since it hurts the team and the player holding out (rust) but you have a small window of getting paid so i can't blame him for trying.

You should be looking out for yourself, but you gotta be smart about it. If you just had one good season and then act like a diva next year and not show maximum effort on the field, that isn't a good way to maximise your earnings, it's a career killer.
@spritzerak4u89

Seisman 75 + He would have no leverage. The will run run run run him to the end of the contract and say his shelf life is up, or he goes out and gets some sort of injury. Running backs don't have the luxury pretty much every other position has because for the most part they have shorter careers. That season was all the leverage he had to open up extension talks.

At Arkansas he had the best hands on the team. In 3rd and 4th and long situations he was the go-to receiver. I never understood why team didn't use his receiving ability more. I thought he would have flourished with the Patriots because they love a fullback or third-down back who can get the tough yards and catch the ball.

Thing is, he signed a contract. He got paid what the Browns and the league thought he was worth. Just because he was outperforming his contract, doesn't give him the right to protest against the team that decided to take a chance on him. You are seeing it more and more with young guys, guys coming off "rookie" contracts, complaining and "holding out" cause they feel they are worth more. Like Aaron Donald of the Rams, sitting out the last two preseasons cause he was still on his rookie contract. I get it... you deserve more, and I agree with you... but BE A MAN and show up for work.

Other than Backup Quarterbacks, nobody on an active NFL roster sits the bench. All the backup receivers, dbs, linebackers, and running backs are used extensively on kickoffs and punts which are the most dangerous plays that create the biggest collisions.

This was one of the biggest mistakes the Browns had made up that point. They were giving bumbs top pay and when we finally got someone that was changing the momentum for Cleveland, they shit the bed and didn't pay the man. He was definitely a sight to see for the fans in Cleveland. The true fans appreciate what he did and understand why it ended the way it did. We Thank him for his effort and in 2021 we're finally a respectable football team. Good thing it didn't take too long!!!! Great video BTW.

Absolutely ! 63 yr. old Browns fan here. I remember thinking and saying the same thing when it was happening. I was really pissed off at the Browns. After paying top dollar to guys like Andre Rison & Braylon Edwards, who didn't live up to expectations, why would you treat Peyton Hillis like that? He kept his mouth shut, worked his ass off, put up the numbers, and made games exciting again. Sad to say, this isn't the only instance where the Browns treated their best players poorly.

It's not that bad. I've had strep a handful of times in my life that I can remember and simple throat numbing spray will do the trick. I did get mono when I was in maybe 17 and that is much worse - but even then my doctor prescribed me some kind of liquid pain killer to gargle with and that did the trick. If you can handle the feeling of your throat being numb (many people can't and find the sensation intolerable) then even the worst sore throats aren't that bad with medication.

Shaun different times. In fact you could even say Hillis is a pioneer in being paid for talent. The dude ran hard like an elite level running back only to be paid like a 3rd string rb. I’m all for players getting paid because any moment can be your last down in the nfl. Look at Shazier or look at Earl Thomas this year.

As a die hard Denver fan, I think this was the most idiotic move made by McDaniels (and Lord knows he made plenty). The dude was by far the best RB on the roster and CRUSHED it in shanahans offense. McDaniels didn’t want to feature him and jettisoned him to Cleveland for chump change. I still believe if shanahan was never let go, that this guy would have been a multi year pro bowl kinda guy

Watching him week after week (had him on my fantasy team that year as well. Won the Championship!!) just destroy people was one of the best feelings I have ever had as a Browns fan. I remember watching ESPN as they made their way thru the brackets thinking "There is no way in hell a Browns player will ever grace the cover of Madden. Then, he won....and that was the last we ever got from Cleveland's Peyton.... Humans can put their "nose to the grindstone" and work hard to make it to the top. Once he got on the cover of Madden, playing for the Browns, he realized this is the top of the mountain for him. He's not going to win a Superbowl with the Browns. Being on the cover of Madden is a big deal. Once humans reach their goals, or make it to the top, we tend to get complacent, lazy, content and satisfied. Nothing else to work towards. Once you're at the top anything less feels like the hard work is no longer worth it. A lot of people fall off because the hard work is no longer praised or noticed.

Watching Hillis highlights from 2010 is still awesome and enjoyable. Also, it is a typical Browns story in it being so tragic and so weird and unusual. But reporting, getting paid, taking up an important position and then basically refusing to play has to be the worst negotiation tactic ever. If his agent had him do that he should sue him for malpractice, if that was his idea what a horrible thing to do to your teammates. Either hold out, or give it your all one more time and see if the franchise is willing pay you if not move on. But that half in half out is just self destructive because no one can support that, you are a pariah to everyone. Follow that catastrophe with 3 garbage season and then the entire league wants you gone. Wish I knew the real story about his agent’s actions that year. Just too stupid of a tactic with all downside.

Mostly true, Chris. Certain teams will maintain their places at the top and bottom, but the rest of the league is generally mired in sort of a soup. Every year, a few teams get a couple lucky bounces, a handful of favorable calls, and better health, while others suffer in all these regards. This year, the Giants, Colts, and Seahawks pulled the short straws, while the Eagles, Rams, and Jaguars pulled longer ones. Pundits will talk about how "this team is for real" and such, but at the end of the day, all these breakout players are looking for money, usually from a team looking for a few more pieces for a playoff run.

I remember that game against the patriots. Ive been a patriots fan for 20 years and i remember thinking that the game against the Browns was a sure fire win. Then this dude hillis shows up and is blowing up the line like i hadnt seen in years. Me and my friends were baffled, good thing about football is if your teams winning, you drink. If your teams losing, you drink. So it worked out in the end lol.

I remember at the time the media made a big deal that he was the first white running back to go over 1000 yards in over 20 years.

The way you said strep throat so dismissively was quite telling of your ignorance. Just look up the symptoms. A person with strep throat is lucky if they can eat a bowl of soup successfully, let alone play football at an elite level.

GeuwgleSuxBallz right! I easily lost 10 pounds because of it. I had to take the shot. There was a point where I felt maybe, just maybe, I could hang in there for a few more days and it would start to go away, but it had already been weeks and so fuck losing a few more pounds! Along with the stress, the depression it brings cuz you're not eating and the fact that it feels like your swallowing little rocks when you're only eating soup. Worst two weeks ever for me!

I don't know why you wanna act like strep throat is so bad. It may hurt, but it's not like it's some super bad disease.

I picked up Hillis on the waiver wire his breakout year early on in the season. Guy carried me all the way that year but let me down in the fantasy playoffs. He had 61 receptions that season as well, he was a ppr beast.
