the same happened to me I replaced the throttle body and three vacuum solenoids and now it runs perfectly fine
@jaredpukrop97972 жыл бұрын
This one was due to low compression. The engine was replaced and the core was sent in, the engine builder sent pictures and explanations of what was going on with it.

How's it doin. 2 rules. Don't park em up and don't park em cold. And if you're really worried f it throw 2 stroke oil in the gas and do a cat converter delete cause burning oil absolutely will cook catalytic converters.

Hu? No this is not low compression symptom. You may have low compression but this is not a symptom of that. This the ECU being unable to to control the AFM, faulty MAF, Lambda sensor, dirty throttle body and or throttle position sensor or even throttle reset. Once the ECU gets a correct armed up reading of the lambda sensor it will attempt to adjust the AFM if something stops that from happening such as a stuck open throttle butterfly it will be struggling to adjust idle. Drop some 2 stroke into your fuel tank, this is after all a puddled 2 stroke rotary engine. This Rotary engine may eat its own engine oil instead of stroke oil but it is just a 2 stroke in a rotary action rather than a piston. Oh and clean the throttle body etc etc...
@jaredpuk8 жыл бұрын
Yup did all that. also got a reman engine that fixed it
@FireicerCooper8 жыл бұрын
Then it was the SSV dirty or the leaver had too much play on it and when the vacuum pulled up the leaver did not open the valve fully. You have two on this engine, upper and lower, usually it cokes up with dirt and oil which binds and damages the bush at the end of the actuators bar.
@jaredpuk8 жыл бұрын
+Fireicer Cooper (f1r31c3r) I cleaned that before installing the reman engine last year, it wasn't very dirty as I steam cleaned the engine a bunch of times before pulling the trigger on a reman. I'm not sure why I have to convince you that is was bad, I exhausted every option before dropping 3,000 on a car I paid 2,500 for. I have pictures somewhere of the engine that came out of this car, it was bad apex seals.
@FireicerCooper8 жыл бұрын
Hey i am not saying you are wrong and by no means am i saying that you had other issues. Every engine after 20K miles has compression loss. I am just saying what the ECU is doing to compensate for a fuelling issue hence the hunting. I seen 13b engines with 130k+ miles on them without a rebuild running but my point is that reduced compression is not the only cause of hunting like shown in your video. Stuck or failed apex seals will cause it to sound like a German tank which by all fairness is what you had as a symptom as well. I think what you were experiencing from what you have further added is the unburnt fuel enriching the next rotors combustion cycle if it was an apex seal which cause a rich condition on the later rotors combustion cycle causing the ECU to lean out the mixture making the further cycles needing a richer mixture. My point is that just the point of hunting is not enough of an analysis to call the apex seals. It could be fuelling issue elsewhere for these symptoms as well.

Here is what the engine builder said about this engine after he bought it back as a core. "core 2 that was probably yours. 1 rotor housing is significantly chrome flaked and also has a mean crack at the L plug hole, so really it is below my standard for reuse although you could build a race/hellraising motor out of it and it would run. the other rotor housing was in slightly better shape with only mild chrome flaking and still some cracking at the L plug hole...I consider that one to be about the lowest condition housing I would consider using in a budget street rebuild. Irons, shaft, and rotors look very nice. In fact the rotors look super clean of carbon so I wonder if you ever did the water injection treatment, seafoam/decarb etc. in the history of the engine? This engine would have been fully rebuildable with just a seal set, main bearings, and rotor housings."

Run Marvel Mystery Oil and Lucas or Idemitsu premix. There's a very good chance one of your Apex seals is simply stuck. Get it warm, and redline it several times after the additives are in. Then get it out to drive for a few hours.
@jaredpuk9 жыл бұрын
Ryan DeClue I have ran seafoam through this engine after this video and premixed Idemitsu .5 an ounce per gallon of premium It seems to be better just not right. I am coming to the all to common conclusion that the housings/apex seals are bad. Here is the video after kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmGnhHyHi818qc0
@RyanDeClue9 жыл бұрын
Jared P Seafoam doesn't do anything. It's been proven on countless videos, with spanking brand new 0 mile engines. That white smoke is ONLY the Seafoam burning. What it WILL do is screw your engine up bad. There is a very very very good chance that the ignition coils are bad. Get the newest "C" code coils from Mazda, or the BHR coils. New plugs and wires too. Go with a full ounce per gallon with the Idimitsu. Major difference. The Marvel Mystery Oil will not only lubricate, but will legitimately clean out carbon and sludge. Cleans your injectors too, almost instantly. I was told the apex seals in my 06 GT were bad. I ran the Idimistsu and Marvel mix through a full tank of V-Power, and did a compression test. Perfect all across the board. Checked your air filter yet? Catalytic converter clogged?
@RyanDeClue9 жыл бұрын
Jared P I watched the video. You're starting wayyyy too easily for it to be bad seals.

Im loosing years after i bought it 😰😰🤯 (has not a problem at hot start,only if that thing happens that cut the gas down on 7k rpm+engine check:off)Mine will be 950rpm standar on N even if u let it there gas out! Hey fellow Wisconsinite! I just got my RX-8 last week and I'm having a similar low compression issue. Will yours not start when warm? Mine runs and drives great, but when I shut down I have to wait until I'm three dots or less above the double hashes on the temp gauge before it will restart. (It will also stall at the light if I don't keep about 1000rpms on it.) Does yours do that yet? I just plan on pulling the motor and redoing all the seals. Not too bad of a job, but I have to get a 54 mm socket for the flywheel nut and a torque wrench that goes up to 300 ft lbs to tighten said nut. I knew it was a problem when I bought it, but the price was too low to resist (and it's a lot of fun to drive!)
@jaredpuk9 жыл бұрын
+jpatt1000 I ended up swapping the engine for a reman unit from rotary resurrection.
@jpatt10009 жыл бұрын
+Jared P Just curious if he found any damage to the hard parts or if the seals were just carboned up and sticking or just worn. That's really the only thing I nervous about as housings and rotors are expensive! Pulling the motor doesn't seem too difficult as there is plenty of space to work once the air cleaner, battery tray and air pump and bracket are out of the way. The only things that look like they might be tricky are the oil cooler lines. How long did it take you to get it out? (I guess I should ask if you went out the top leaving the gearbox in place, or are you lucky enough to have a lift and just dropped it out the bottom with the gearbox attached?)
@jaredpuk9 жыл бұрын
+jpatt1000 Sorry for the very late reply. I don't get on KZbin much. I dropped the trans out the bottom then pulled the engine out the top. I don't think the engine comes out the bottom. It was a slow pace I think it took like 6 hours. I don't remember anymore. Rotary Resurrection has a nice how to on the fourms.

Blueturbo6port I did do a poor man's test it was at 75 pounds on both rotors. I am not driving it now. As it will stall at low RMP's so stop signs are tricky.

What is your friend using for fuel management? How is he keeping the ecu happy for the rest of the cars functions? There are so many things to consider when swapping engines in the RX8. I am sure the 2jz swap is much more expensive than replacing with oem. Your comment is not helpful. There are many options out there for engine swaps and just blindly suggesting one is not the best way to do it.
@jaredpuk8 жыл бұрын
Alright, we'll skip the engine swap debate. Saying weak suspension is very vague. The rx8 suspension is very good. It is very adjustable right from the factory. It has a very good balance between on track performance and on road comfort. I recently had a blown out shock on my rx8 and swapped in a coil over system for very little money. themazdazoomzoomstore.com/tein-street-basis-coilover-system-mazda-rx-8-se3p-04-11/
