A fake punt was not called by OSU. The punter read that the defense was attempting to block, but the right side was neglected/not contained and he made the decision himself to go for the first down. The coach rants were in the heat of the moment. Both are trying to protect their players and avoid a bench clearing brawl. They used to work together under Urban Meyer. Now there might be a little bad blood because Schiano was fired by Ryan Day when he took over. But overall they do respect each other.

This is what is taught at the high school level now. Rugby style roll out punt, if no one is there, run. Rutgers went for the full block, they were out of position, run it! Schiano of course expects his players to never give up even if they are down huge, but he seems to expect the other team to give up if they are way ahead. Whoever laid the late hit should have been destroyed by the OSU sideline.

Here's my take: In developing his players, I heard Coach Day say early in the season that he wanted his players to play their best on every play no matter who they're playing. Coach Schiano started the game pretty much with an onside kick. Ohio State's punter absolutely did the right thing. These are football players and Ohio State is making this game enjoyable to watch because of the way they are executing! Rutgers is a sore loser and quite frankly I am surprised at coach Schiano's reaction. The Ohio State punter should not be admonished for doing the right thing, no matter the score. Understand, he is a ball player that is being prepared for the NFL that saw an opportunity and executed it to perfection! Kudos to the Ohio State kicker!

What he did is unacceptable, now he will be standing on the sidelines at least for the first half of the next game, while the OSU player got plenty of accolades for a job well done! Football is enjoyable, but also very dangerous that can have lifelong effects on a player's health and quality of life. Hard hits are unnecessary and anytime it happens, whether on the field of play or not, the player responsible should be ejected which should minimize concussions. I am beginning to like the game, but I hate it when any player gets hurt, regardless of the team they're on.

If so, you can just leave the Big Ten. This isn't Junior High. You don't potentially end a punters season because you never learned how to control your emotions by your parents past age 8. Ryan day has a right to run up the score against anybody. Ryan day's job is to win games any means necessary if his team's better than everybody he plays on a schedule so be it. Ryan day has a right to fake a punt that's the nature of the game. And if you can't stop it you can't stop the run you can't stop the pass you can't stop anything don't complain. I think Ryan day was right and that other goon was wrong. I just think it's probably just bad blood from when he coached with Ryan at Ohio State that's what it is. But that was a late hit that was ugly that hit started a fight cuz that's how ugly that it was that that hit was significantly late that's how people get injured that's how players get hurt. Ryan Day had no influence on that broken play. Greg Shiano running across the field to the opposing teams bench, grabbing a ref, and pointing a finger in frustration should earn him a big fine. A late hit and ejection along with the coach running across the field is the worst part of the whole situation.
