I love Ryan Doyle's style of movement and his philosophical insights into movement and the arts of parkour and freerunning.

Honestly, the way I see it, there are two sides to parkour. There's the free-roaming side that people do for fun just to express themselves and to enjoy the essence of parkour, then there's the competitive side that people use as a means of personal progression. I mean, seeing someone run a course differently than I would have in a competition opens my eyes to all the possibilities of movement and shows me what I can improve on/do differently. It's all personal preference :)

@playartun No, in a Physics textbook. The equation is to find the vertical distance traveled of a falling object. D = Distance Traveled T = Time V1 = Starting Velocity A = Acceleration I assumed that the drop was 100 meters, but I could be off by a few by a bit....

I like this. This is a mix of styles. Some guys are trickers, some guys are purists, but they all respect each other. Matter of fact, I shouldn't even call them styles. It's just parkour.

@LionAndi Redbull Art of Motion is number 1, a friendly copetition that brings traceurs together and gives the movement publicity. Number 2 the Art of Motion isn't to show who's the best, it is to show who is best suited for that environment and who's the most creative that day and who appealed to the crowd/judges the most. Not who's the best or anything like that. They're there to meet new people and to take tips, tricks friendships away from the competitions, not a trophy. Hope that helps ;)

@angernow Well then i have news for you I started 3 months ago and i am 16, i started just wanting to know how to fall from large heights and look where it got me. I know many things and just today i climbed my first building! Parkour is perfect for you to start at your age, as long as you keep constant effort for at least a month it will stick. My advice, start learning vaults first, their practical and some of the easiest to do. Also you will need the PK roll. Dont give up!

@STORMWHITEpro It isn't the fact that he uses Flips that make it more efficient, Its how his body has become so experienced in doing flips that his speed and momentum increase when he does it, ex 0:32

@dbutl56 walters is a gymnast, that's his speciality. His jumping ability is on par with most other traceurs who've been doing it for couple years. A lot of good traceurs went on to be proficient at free-running anyway(Illabaca, foucan, livewire). And most of them are recognized mostly for the fact that they are good at freerun. And it's fun i have to admit. But I have not seen any parkour purist that made it. It take EXTREME dedication, discipline and knowledge. Maybe you or i eh?

Well, we, as runners, need to educate people about parkour and spread the idea. If they don't know, don't ignore them, just take a second to explain it to them. We go over them instead of around them because we enjoy it.

Don't want to start trolling on this guy, because he is an inspiration for some people and a positive influence, but there are some things I dont understand about Ryan's words. For one thing "you can't say this guys moves are right and this guys moves are wrong". Why not? When someone lands his/her precisions on the heels, when someone does a big jump without proper training, he's not moving safely. Thats about as close as you can get to moving badly.

I don't like to think of it as an art. That's more like free running. The name itself tells you. FREE running. You can do whatever you want, whichever way you want to. Parkour has a specific purpose. that's the difference.

Parkour is free running, and doing tricks (like flips) is called tricking. Tricking and parkour can connect, but they are 2 different styles and they shouldn't be mixed up with each other.

This is NOT an art form. Free-running is an "Art form". Parkour is a way to get from point A to point B in the shortest way possible, through any obstacle, especially in urban environments. It's a tool to help you survive or run away from some one.
