As a Bama fan, I was in total disbelief of hearing of Ryan's passing, what a great guy and a great QB in the SEC and remember going to the Arkansas vs Bama games and i was always a nervous wreck of how great a player he was and how back and forth our games were. My condolences to the Mallet family and the Hogs fan base. This is truly hearbreakening 🙏

Was never really a college football fan until a friend invited me to watch the first game of the 2008 season at War Memorial. Ryan Mallett was in his first start as a Razorback. I was fascinated by his physical stature, his professional style of quarterback play, and his absolute CANNON of an arm. I’ve been a die-hard Hog fan ever since. RIP Ryan, condolences to his friends and family. Thank you for the memories and the joy of watching you play the game.

I remember Ryan Mallett from his playing days at the University of Michigan. He played for Michigan before transferring to Arkansas. Mallet had tremendous arm strength and accuracy.
@Michael-jw6et Жыл бұрын
One of the most amazing things, to me, about the Petrino era and Mallett was the incredible protection he got. I don't think I have ever seen a quarterback get that level of protection. Ryan Mallot had a huge pocket and plenty of time almost every throw.
@joshw79747 ай бұрын
Part of that is nobody wanted one-on-one with that group of receivers and Mallett. Blitzing this crew with the constant underneath routes was a very risky proposition.

I remember when Ryan transferred to Arkansas and I heard his name for the first time...I knew he'd be a force! He led such an exciting group of Hogs, me and my friends had such great cafeteria sports talks in junior high/high school discussing the outing he and the Razorbacks had the weekends prior. RIP Ryan, gone too soon. We miss you so much already 💔

Thanks Ryan for all the great memories! But I would also like to thank all the previous commenters. I will always be a Razorback fan. But I have admired many players from other teams within the SEC. We may be foes on any given Saturday... But in all we are family. That's what makes our conference the best! "It just means more!".

Watching these RM highlights, brought me back to those exciting times we had with Mallet and those great corps of receivers we had. Joe Adams and Greg Child’s, Colby Hamilton etc. Reminds me of another QB in SWC times - Joe Ferguson. Both had cannons. Chuck Dicus said of Ferguson - playing catch with a .22. Ryan could make throws off his back foot across the field. Incredible arm strength. Really miss you. RIP Sir, RIP.

I got to meet him 10 yrs ago during the Spring Game! I was outside the stadium and I ran into him. I had my picture made with him after I asked someone if that was indeed Mallett. Later that night, I went to my first ever game at Baum (I still have the ticket stub btw)! As a Patriots fan, I was excited when the Patriots drafted him. I love the GOAT, but a part of me wishes Mallett could've gotten more playing time in Foxboro. Even though he was traded during training camp in 2014, I kinda wish Mallett was allowed to get a Super Bowl ring.

What's puzzling to me is that every single WR shown in these clips didn't make it big in the NFL. I still think Childs could've had the most success, given his speed and size. But, alas, he blew out that knee in camp.
