Great car. I'm from Germany and have the same in silverstone metallic and OEM condition, renewed everything like you. Respraying the whole car is looking good on one hand, but on the other hand it won't be the stock paint then anymore which is an important feature for real collectors.

You should paint the faded seat belt release buttons (red). I did it on my E39, it really makes a difference and it is a tiny fraction of the price of replacing the whole thing.

I’m doing my rear wiring harness. It’s for the trunk latch, license plate lights and some grounds. The wiring loom that goes into the trunk a couple a wires are broken and I don’t care to solder each wire, just doing a full replacement. Take a look at your wiring loom that has the little hose coming out of the trunk. I bet you your wires are starting to break. I found out because my trunk latch wouldn’t open I had to manually open my trunk with my key. Good luck!

Absolutely love the E39 M5. I currently own a beautiful Black E38. I also have put a good amount of money into it. I can say it drives like it just came out the showroom. Maybe one day I can get myself in an E39. I know you want to keep it stock, however the Avant 4 head piece is a nice addition to your entertainment system. It looks like the radio you already have in there, except its android based. Anyhow enjoy your baby

Hi Ryan - love your ride. I have an 03 e39 M5 and love it. Yes, I paid too much by purchasing it through EAG in Cincinnati, OH. Question for you - where did you get your trunk carpet mat? Did you get it through a BMW forum or elsewhere? Additionally - I am in need of mirrors as the motors on mine are going bad. Are you parting an E39 that I could purchase them from you? Let me know & thank you.
@E39Source

You didn't pay too much- you got it from the best. Their cars are justified. The trunk mat came from Shady Hasan of the E39 M5 Owner's Group on FaceBook. He says more stock will be available soon. I highly recommend it!

Nice car, as always Ryan. The level of meticulousness here is stellar, and sets an example to others. One thing I often wonder though, is that with all the time, energy, money, and heart that went into this car, what would you do if you were ever involved in an accident with this car where it was damaged pretty bad? Such as someone hitting you from behind or the side at 20-30 MPH? Would you just have it rebuilt?
@E39Source

Thanks for the kind words. I often worry about this sort of an incident happening. Good insurance is important. Of course it would depend on the event, but I would do whatever is possible and realistic for this car.

It's a real pleasure to watch your videos, some of them twice, I really like how you maintain this car and even if I don't have an M5 I got a lot of ideea from you for retrofitting stuff on my e39 520d m47 that I own for 14years by now. One thing I would like to do is bluebus but my car came with no dsp mid, low ike and no tel an R/T buttons on the 4-spoke steering wheel, so, can I use bluebus with all its features? How can I summon siri or answer or reject calls. I don't have the blue connector on the trunk just cd changer. What should be done to get those buttons working cause I tried to fit them but it was a complete failure - the entire left panel not worked...I know in the US most of the cars came with tel or prewired but not in EU so if you ever came across this retrofit please post it
@E39Source
@E39Source 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your kind words and support! If you have an IBUS car (3 and 6-pin CD changer connectors) then you can do the BlueBus. Without those buttons, I do not know how those features would work. I've never seen or worked with a car of that spec since they weren't available in the United States.

The car I’m going to be purchasing this month has a production month/year of 12/1999. I’m curious if it has an alarm system. Did every e39 m5 come with one from the factory, or was it an option? If all cars got it, does production date have anything to do with it? Thanks!

Fuel range? 200-400 miles depending on how its driven. Value on mine specifically is very hard to say. Kelly Blue Book would say around $10k. I have far more than it's 'worth' in it and wouldn't sell it for less than $120k or so.

Ryan, does your car have the two or three pin e-box fan?
@E39Source
@E39Source 5 жыл бұрын
Two, is there a three?
@rsporsche
@rsporsche 5 жыл бұрын
@@E39Source Maybe not in the US? My June '99 euro M5 has a three pin that is controlled by a temperature switch in the e-box instead of the DME. I have the 8F code though because the DME is not seeing a fan on the respective pin. Not sure if i should code out the error or wire the fan to the DME and drop the temperature switch.
@E39Source
@E39Source 5 жыл бұрын
@@rsporsche Maybe the temp switch is bad? Or fan, or both?
@rsporsche
@rsporsche 5 жыл бұрын
@@E39Source I replaced the fan, and I think the original was fine too. The temperature switch also checks out as fine. Thing is, the fan isn't connected to the DME so there's no way for it to tell if it fails. I wired the 3 pin fan to the DME and no more 8F code but not sure if I should make that a permanent solution or not. Do you know if the DME hardware/software is different across different years of the M5? I'm wondering how the software knows whether a car has a 2 or 3 pin fan in the first place? Curiously the BMW ETK lists the 2 pin fan for my car, not the 3 pin but I think that's a data entry error on BMW's side. The WDS shows the 3 pin fan though.
@E39Source
@E39Source 5 жыл бұрын
@@rsporsche BMW has data errors all over the place, unfortunately. If the code went away, I'd leave it as is. There were numerous different software versions, so it probably just tries to decide on the fly which fan is installed and use that. The signals may be sent for both fans, actually.

It's maybe a 99% match, I think it's quite good. The camera always makes color matching look worse. Also understand that they don't match from factory. Plastic looks different than metal even when painted the exact same color. It's super bad on white BMWs, the bumpers are always very yellow.
