This is one of those wrongs that today's music industry needs to address. They need to give the songwriters more freedom and control over their songs. It's their songs, their intellectual children. The songwriters are what give all of the other involved parties their jobs. Full stop.

This seems a little over emotional without thinking about the nuances. We have song writers and we have producers and then we have everyone in-between. So a lot of people they just write a song and just give it to someone and yeah that's all the freedom they wanted and they got it. They might not even have any particular sound in mind, they just like the lyrics. In THIS specific case, Ryan always produces so he has a very specific vision. He didn't get to produce but this rarely happens to him. It's crazy it's only happened just a few times even because collaborations can go so poorly so often. So I don't really get what you're saying, it doesn't sound like a real problem. This is not an example of a creative not getting what they want. It's an example of someone who usually gets what they want and even when he doesn't he still was able to do a lot it just didn't work out overall.

Guessing it was Stargate (worked with Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Wiz, etc). They took Ryan's song "Not To Love You", gave it to Sean Paul, changed it to "Got 2 Luv U" and changed a lot of the lyrics.

"Got 2 Love U" wasn't Sean Paul's first single ever, but it was the first single from that album, so that may be what he means. It would fit in other respects, like the fact that Ryan's demo was originally a very different song, that it was totally produced by somebody else, and that the final version was GARBAGE. I'm not saying Ryan hasn't written some bad apples of his own, but I wondered what was up with that one.

Yeah, so it's probably The Last Goodbye by David Cook. Matt Serletic has produced that whole album. It was the first single off his second major album, so probably that's where he was a bit wrong. Serletic has also produced for Cher, which is quite big.

If he’s submitting “already-done” songs that just require a vocalist, it just increases the chances of this kind of thing happening.

I'm sure he understands you add on to a demo, but the point I think he is trying to make is that the demo is pretty much it. It is the center piece, the foundation. Just like you said, you only add onto the demo and polish it and refine the parts. I think what Ryan was talking about was how his song got completely changed into something else and barely sounded anything like his demo at all, that's why he was pissed about it. If they don't like his demo then they shouldn't take it in the first place.

He said two songs, I am pretty sure one of them is Got 2 Luv U by Sean Paul seeing that it was so different to 'Not To Love You' which I was listening to quite a bit before Sean Paul came out with the other song with Alexis Jordan. However the one he's talking about as his first experience of a song of his being ruined... I am unsure. It's not helped by the fact he asked not to be credited so yeah. Someone said it could be a song by Jason Derulo... Plausible as JR did his whole album, even the Deluxe bonus tracks. I guess we'll never know! Would be interesting to find out though.
