Your tutorials are awesome man. You clearly explain everything you do in a simplistic manner.... Well done

@niggy1kanobi1 you are on the right track. all you have to do is set up your random effect to only work within the range of notes you have samples assigned to. to do this you'll have to have all your cells back to back (c1, c#1, d1, d#1, e1, f1...) and then set your "choices" to whatever number of samples you are using, and "scale" to 1. also set your chance to 100%. then just play the lowest note/cell assigned to your samples and you shouldn't trigger any empty cells.

@T1nusk indeed slice to midi is a good option if you want to take the time to set these parameters, but my issue with slice to midi is the polyphony. i prefer using multi-samples in a sampler because you can set the polyphony to 1 where only one version of the break will be playing at a time. if you were to do this in a drum rack (slice to midi) you would either have to set your release time to zero (eliminating the ability to just play the keys and have it keep going) or else chaos.

@T1nusk for this reason though I'd like to build some sort of monophonic-izer in max4live, a way to say "ok when you hear one note, ignore the note-off until i play the next note". this way you could set your release to zero and the midi notes would have perfect legato into one another.

@CW2SCOGG thanks man. in order to match the loop to the master tempo I had to previously warp the clip to time. it is important to then consolidate the loop (cmd/cntrl-j in arrangement) to stamp the speed permanently. as far as playing in time you just gotta have skillz... or quantize...

This is really cool, but How do you keep the multisampled loop in time with your main ableton sequencer tempo?

@T1nusk YES!!! I don't know why I didn't think to use choke groups! I think that would just about do it. Take the time to set up a slicing preset with controls like pitch and stuff for all the samplers/simplers and I'd be good to go. I'm going to give that a shot as soon as I get home. You may have rendered Part 2 of this video useless :) Ya, midi latch was the name I was looking for, I'll check out max4live and see if there's something similar, although I do enjoy building stuff myself.
