Fires in our town in the mountains of California right now. Six kinds of helicopters and planes dropping water and painting the hills pink with retardant; hundreds of firefighters carrying hose lines and chopping fire lines up steep slopes in 105 degree heat. Ryan - keep an eye on Beryl. The SST's ahead in the Gulf are pretty uniform 85-86F. Right off the northern Yucatan coast is a little lower - but then quickly bounces back up to the mid 80s. So yes, a little more weakening from the land and slightly cooler SST. But then very warm all the way north to the Gulf Coast. You're absolutely right that the speed - and some shear - will keep it from strengthening rapidly. But the atmosphere around it isn't too messy. The SSTs will support re-strengthening to possibly low cat. 3. It's going to be interesting the next few days- and we'll see which factor has the most impact on the circulation and how much more weakening happens before the Yucatan exit. (Ignore the channel name - long time private meteorologist behind the screen here, from the east coast - now in Nashville.)
@therealhellkitty53883 ай бұрын
I’m inclined to agree with you. Which storm was it last year that strengthened from a 2 to 4 just barely offshore? Unless there’s a lot of shear, I think it will bloom into a much larger storm.
@paulapatterson43012 ай бұрын
It's being steered slowly to desensitize us. Once it gets to landfall stage and of course in the dark hours of night it will pick up speed just like what happened to Acapulco very recently. "He who controls the weather, controls the world". LBJ.

I was driving North bound on the Hwy 441 in the Otto area, and the sky dumped rain so hard, my windshield wipers couldn't keep up and the lines on road disappeared. Lightning was everywhere and it continued to rain hard until the southern limits of Franklin. Oh, almost forgot, the wind! The wind was trying to blow me off the road during this storm.
