I like this it reminds me of Unreal Engines, Material and Material Instance, the Material being the thing that's made , while the Material Instance allows you to adjust how the material gets displayed.

Love this tutorial. At one time, I knew how to set up custom controls in Cinema 4d. I followed along in this one and I'm seeing how to do this in Blender, which is even better. Plus, the controls for the node group work in the sidebar under the material settings. Very cool!

Here is another question I haven't really found an answer to. Sorry for flooding you with questions but I hope getting more comments on your videos help at least. So what I want to do is to have a brick texture, now I'd like to add grayscale gradient to each brick individually in the texture and connect that to Bump node and to normal slot so it would look like every brick is slightly tilted to random direction. This would also make it seem that each brick is slightly on different depth. For example one of the bricks would seem to be closer to mortar level from the left bottom corner and at the same time looking like it's pushing out more from top right corner. The brick right next to it could be tilted close to mortar from bottom and pushing out from top. In some bricks it could even look like one of the edges is deeper than mortar, this feature however is not necessary, would be cool tho! I have to use single 4 vert plane to do this. Tried to connect gradient to color ramp to brick texture color but that just affects the entire texture instead of individual bricks.

Ahh, I wish I knew how to do that so that I could help you, but I actually have no idea on how to get that effect.

I have a question not much related to the video. So, is it possible to be self taught in 3d? And if it is , then what should be the procedure?
@RyanKingArt

Yes, I am self taught. I learned Blender by watching tons of tutorials, and practicing a lot.

@@RyanKingArt I am following some tutorials too and improved a lot. But some technical problems arise here and there. Like in the tutorials, they just show the surface but not everything like settings ,what to use and when etc,( or else it would took a very long ) . How would you recommend to self study? Thanks for replying!

Hello! Great videos! I have used them a lot while in school studying Game Development as we use Blender to model and Unity as the game engine. However I've run to one issue a few times now. This one is a good example of such a texture. So we have bigger and smaller details. Now if I have a large objects like a brick wall and I want to bake it. I need to go really high resolution if I want to use single tile uv to get the small details as intended. I could also make a lot of udims and that way increase the available resolution. However Unity has tileable detail map option in it. This would be great for small high frequency details such as really high scale noise bump etc. I really haven't been able to find a tutorial how to go about it in blender tho. It would be awesome if you could make a tutorial on how to go on about it. I think it would be very helpful for a lot of people. The detail map in unity is a channel packed map with Albedo on Red Normal y-axis on Green Smoothness on Blue Normal x-axis on Alpha Neutral values are 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5

Thanks for supporting me on KZbin memberships. I wish I could give you some advice on this, but I actually have no experience with game engines. I never used unity before.

@@RyanKingArt Okay, if you ever find the time, it would be great. Basically what you have to do is whole another texture that is separate, basically just a plane to make details that repeat. The problem is I have no clue how to add it on top of the base texture. What tile size to use etc.
