I am so impressed with this video and Ryan's instructions. Thorough but not information that doesn't apply to a lawn as some others do. I am just in the process of killing my weedy lawn and was going to seed in the spring but after watching this video I will hold off until summer as suggested. I will continue to follow Ryan and look into his products. I will follow-up next summer after I have used Ryan's instructions.

My project this year is fixing a lawn that was neglected for 10 years before we bought the house... Crab grass, moss, weeds, clover. Going to try to do an irrigation system before summer so I can keep it watered. Moss is dead and I've thatched and seeded. Fingers crossed it works! Love your tips and knowledge!

Hey Ryan, I recently decided to undertake a lawn renovation/spring seeding of my own in a house I recently bought. I started with a soil test that was sent over to Waypoint, which revealed that my PH was a bit high, my Phosphorous was way too high (binding nutrients) and my soil comp was classified as Loamy Sand. In an effort to begin amending my soil composition I purchased 10cu yds of leaf compost from a reputable compost supplier who screens and monitors their composting process. I first aerated, then dethatched, aerated again, and then applied elemental sulfur to the base soil. After that, I began top dressing with the compost I had delivered. The compost was rather moist due to recent rainfall, but I did my best to spread it as evenly as possible and work it into the existing lawn, but in a lot of areas didn't have much success. After that, I proceeded to apply a 25lb bag of seed mix from SS and part of a 5lb (shade mix) to my yard over the compost. After that, I put down a 14-2-3 fertilizer, weighed out for the correct app rate, and tossed down a bag of Bio-Char. After that I rolled everything in with a water roller, and then top dressed with peat moss using the landsie spreader. I've been watering for 10-20 minutes, 2-3 times a day depending on weather conditions to keep the seed moist. I'm seeing some of the old grass coming up through the layer of compost, but none of the new seed germinating due to weather conditions in Northern NJ. Did I butcher my yard or am I just being impatient? It's been about 2 weeks with cooler weather and we're just starting to see some warmer soil temps this week. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you and I love your channel!

+1 for premium seed. I switched after I wound up with a BAD Poa breakout in my backyard. About 25% of the lawn was overrun and had significant bare soil the following spring. So I switched to a premium seed brand for the next overseed and not only had zero weed infiltration, but also MUCH darker, lusher thicker results, and FAR better growth in the shady areas. Well worth the extra money!!!

Looking forward to your continued projects, Ryan. I live in SE Wisconsin, had a lawn "professionally" installed late June/Early July 2020 at my new home, and it's needing help. I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and these definitely give me great ideas on what I can do. I know this year I need to get at least the front yard leveled, because it's ridiculously uneven. Got my Levelawn rake a couple weeks ago to get that project started. :) I also need to figure out when/how to overseed the many thin/bare areas and get rid of all of this clover, crabgrass, and what I believe is foxtail. I feel embarrassed, because a neighbor across the street had their lawn installed in September and theirs exploded with growth already. They're actually the only people in my neighborhood who had to mow, and it choked the mower because it was so long. I've got a bit over a half acre of fun, but I use Tenacity sparingly, since spraying isn't fun. haha!

Basically everything I wanted to know, except for when this should be done. After danger of frost? Maybe couple weeks before that, as soon as they turn irrigation back on? I live in northern Utah and I’m planning to spread a cool season, drought tolerant seed.
@ryanknorrlawncare8 ай бұрын
You won't want anything to germinate and then get a freeze so definitely after that and you want irrigation to be consistent for best results so I would have that on as well. When highs are consistent in the upper 60s to around 70 but not freezing temps at night would be good.
@Ninjaa3203 жыл бұрын
Idea for a video: What if you tested in a small patch of lawn doing pretty much everything wrong when spring seeding? Basically just rake out some soil, spread KBG seed down, keep up with watering, and that's it? So no weed control, kbg seed, no cover over the seed, no raking into the soil, and plant too late into spring. What will it look like in a few months?

I used that Scott’s for seeding after I overseeded my front lawn. I followed instructional it says to apply before you water newly seeded grass. I did. And a couple weeks later I got weeds growing. I guess I will have to spot spray the weeds before they get further out of control. And I guess I will re apply in a couple weeks.

Waiting for a detailed video on the Fescue vs the 100% Rye.. I’ll rewatch the fescue video again tho. I’m thinking of using that for a high traffic back yard overseed this fall. This is the second season with this back yard project. Did a spring fill with Loam, level and overseed last spring. It def grew a LOT of junk but I’m going to hit it hard this year. Congrats on your release of Lawn Supply, Ryan! In light of that, I have a question about liquid fertilizing. After doing some math regarding direct weight of N-P-K to pricing of product, it seems like generally granular fertilizers are well ahead of liquid in $/pound. I'm still fairly new to lawn care (moved into a house with a long neglected yard), so perhaps I'm missing something. Would you be able to cover the intangible benefits of liquid fertilizing in the upcoming videos?
@ryanknorrlawncare3 жыл бұрын
Yep, you are correct. Granular will get you a lot more N but there are other things that liquid can do for your program. Foliar feeding can get you results very quickly, as well as being very controlled in what you expect the product to do and how the grass reacts. Feeding in smaller doses can control growth very well whereas sometimes granular can cause a surge for a few weeks and then it falls off once that wears off. The other benefit of foliar is if you are using the right ingredients then you can target things to feed the plant even if you pH might be a little off. I like to use both granular and liquid in a program as they each have a time and place.
