hi! Ryan Mear I always enjoy your reactions. I'm Japanese and my English is not good. so I translated the lyrics of "PUZZLE" on Deepl and hope it helps! "Nice to meet you." I could hear the puzzle pieces falling into place. But I'm sure you don't remember. But that's fine with me In the gloomy darkness You gave me a place where light shines through With an innocent smile, you said it's okay to stay the same Even if it's a love that won't come true I don't care what number you are Hey, that's a lie. I can't see you. I don't know you. It's only painful But I want to know. I'm thirsty. I can't resist Just for now. Let it consume you. I know that if I say it out loud, I won't be able to stop And you hugged me. Out there, it's just the two of us My own wish Like a candy ball melting into sweetness I wonder if you'll disappear someday too Leaving behind only a sly glance and a scent but that's fine with me A night alone with me Where and what are you doing? Every time I think about it, I can't sleep I can't be selfish I can't just be a good boy and wait I already know the answer. I can't do it. I can't say it. I know the truth I'm not allowed to grab you I touched her gently. My fingertips were sure I felt your love. Please don't say you're sorry. Let me see your eyes avert I'm falling into a deepening wound that won't heal I'm falling into you again The lighter I don't use Glasses in a row And new clothes Don't cry I'm a shell of you I can't see the end I just want to dream Are you gonna wake up? Don't cry Let me believe I can't see, I can't know I'm in so much pain But I want to know, I crave to know I can't resist Just for now Let it consume you. I know that if I say it out loud, I won't be able to stop And you hugged me. Out there, it's just the two of us My own wish A puzzle that's falling apart Memories that can't be filled I close my eyes again I'm falling into you again

Fun fact: in Japan saying "just bring it" is considered quite rude in polite society. It is tantamount to saying go to hell here in the west. There is a lot of punk in this "impossibly hard rocking band". Sacramento loves Band-Maid.

@@otobokegaijin6218 and l did not mean that. I was expressing an equivalent in impact comparison with an English phrase. I certainly did not mean to imply it translated as go to hell. Only that in certain context it would be considered a very rude statement. Thanks for letting me clear that up.

Whenever I hear it I'm just short before crying. I have not heard much songs where the singer did lay her/his heart completely into the song. Puzzle is Saikis song, the acoustic version definitely. She looks beautiful in her sadness. Also a masterpice of arrangement from ( I guess ) Kanami. This girls did have already at that time the quality of a Superband. Let this be here (the lyrics):- When you said “Nice to meet you.”, It’s like hearing a puzzle piece fell into place. Although I certainly don’t remember but that’s fine with me. You’ve given my light a place, Amidst the melancholic darkness. Don’t ever lose that innocent smile, Even if my love will render futile. I don’t mind how you prioritize me. Hey…those are just lies. I can’t see nor know, All I feel is pain. But I long for the truth, So I can’t just resist it. Just for the meantime, Go and get encroached. There’s no stopping once I voice out Knowing that, you embraced her. It won’t hurt for you two to go outside. That’s only my wish. Like sweetly melting candy, Someday you’ll disappear, too. Your sneaky stare and scent will only remain. but that’s fine with me. On this lonesome night, I wonder where are you and what’re you doing? The harder I think about it, the more I can’t sleep. I can’t say that’s selfish, Since such a good girl is waiting for you. The answer should obvious by now. I can’t do it or even say it, Actually I know That holding isn’t permitted. But you softly touched me With your finger, no doubt about it. I felt love along with it, So don’t do things like apologize. Do enchant me and I will avert my eyes. I’m addicted to this incurable wound as it deepens more. I’m still falling for you. Useless lighters, The lined up glasses, The new clothes, Don’t cry, those are your remnants. I can’t see the end to it, All I want is to dream of you. Will I ever wake up? Don’t cry, let me believe in them. I can’t see nor know, All I feel is pain. But I long for the truth, So I can’t just resist it. Just for the meantime, Go and get encroached. There’s no stopping once I voice out Knowing that, you embraced her. It won’t hurt for you two to go outside. That’s only my wish. The puzzle is crumbling, It’s like the memories won’t go away. My eyes are still closed. I’m still falling for you.

I knew this is gonna blow you away... Especially with the acoustic version right after the live version, it´s just mindblowing how Kanami creates music. I like to think that the acoustic version is the music she wrote the "naked" song and afterwards she added all the other instruments, lyrics (from MIKU) etc. It´s a rainbow of music, so many different colors, moods, riffs, feelings and paces, i LOVE this song so much, it´s beautiful. I adore Kanami, because for me she is an songwriter that stands out big time. She is so open-minded and doesn´t give her writing any restrictions, a lot of ppl trying to stay "true" to themselves or their genre and that sets limits... Kanami is just feeling it and goes to wherever she wants! Did you notice that at the beginning of the solo, in this latest live video, Miku took over Kanami's beginning riff into the solo? I noticed when I saw them live that Miku is taking over a lot over parts, which enables Kanami to be even better. I really admire how far Miku has progressed. There some others I I noticed in concert that Miku is doing MUCH MORE than what she used to do. Because of how much of herself she has poured into the 'Band Maid project'. Miku determined to succeed. Hi Ryan, I’m fairly new to the Band-Maid pigeon hole but I’ve seen a lot of reactions now and I enjoy yours. You don’t need to feel bad about saying your musical tastes align with Kanami’s, and how you see things the way she does. You’re both musicians, and she has said that she wants to make the music she likes, and you can tell it aligns with your tastes. She’s a music geek and so are you, which is really cool to see from the perspective of a non musician like myself. Band-Maid is wonderful because they can write music that a surface level appreciator like myself can enjoy with their riffs, hooks, catchy choruses, energy, fun performances, etc, but also for trained musicians like yourself who can appreciate the finer details as well, like the songwriting, layering of instruments, transitions, creativity, etc.

Fantastic job sir, at the height of the masterpiece that this band of brave tiny smart and talented women has built. Puzzle is an overwhelming composition where, at all times, the listener is literally struck by a musical wave. Layers and more layers, like tides, of amazing music. Well, that was not enough for their creators, deciding to bring the monster to life in the live performance. In my life I have seen nothing like that. Puzzle acoustic is like taming that dragon only based on beauty and subtlety. This is the best rock band of this century and these girls can achieve anything they set their minds to, World Domination included. Thank you very much for this time, it has been excellent.

I always get a kick out of this album cover! Right up BAND MAIDS alley with the different way of looking at the cover and the look and sound of the band. MIKU says about KANAMI " If she holds the guitar she becomes aggressive." KANAMI says "I am told by many people that they thought I change on stage" Pete Townsend talks about being in the zone while playing on stage and not paying attention to anything else going on. This is why he kicked the police officer off the stage while he was playing. Police officer wanted him to know that there was a fire. The lead in music box sound is to let the audience know that they should be quiet. It is actually much longer on the video - thanks for cutting it down. I think - based on previous interviews and comments by KANAMI - that this is what the songs start as. Piano or acoustic guitar and then MISA and AKANE add their parts in and build on it from something like this. KANAMI states "When I compose, I don’t think much about the effects. I use it to enhance the songs I've already written live." I agree - The tone of the music dictates the intent of the lyrics. Example: Puzzle as an acoustic song is sad and depressed view - Puzzle as hard rock electric is mad and somewhat vengeful in attitude. Same song same lyrics two different viewpoints from the same person!

"Wow" is right. The acoustic is by far my favourite version of this song. It's hauntingly beautiful. You need to get watching a full concert though, man. I'm scared you'll have everything spoiled for you

I had a lot to say while you were watching the other two versions but I completely forgot what it was when you watched the acoustic version. The first time I watched it I stopped breathing when Kanami started singing. The whole performance is just breathtaking and beautiful. I just want to say that when I watch a lot of reactors I just kind of watch and it has little effect on me and they kind of sterilize it with overanalysis. I kind of had the same reaction I had the first time while watching you. My eyes started leaking because you just kind of sat back and absorbed it. That was a real reaction. Sometimes there isn't a whole lot that can be said. Respect ✊

...unless Mincho is singing backup as well. Not on this version, but.... I love her harmonies even more on the acoustic version of Anemone that follows this in that concert.

Brilliant to do all three of these versions. Eyes are moist for the acoustic every time. Saiki is a true soulful artist, as is Kanami. An acoustic version of Anemone followed this. Also awesome of course. And: Kanami's exquisite sounding acoustic on Puzzle here is a K. Yairi SJY13H Steve Hicks Custom Electro-Acoustic. K. Yairi is Kazuo Yairi, who I believe was associated with Alvarez at one time. Gorgeous sounding guitar, phenomenal artist playing it, heartrending vocals... this gets to me every time.
@RyanMear3 жыл бұрын
On a previous video, I noticed she was playing an Alvarez Yairi and went all stupid about it. I worked in a music store for a bit and they had them. Best sounding acoustic guitar I've ever played. So Yairi continued on without Alvarez?? Interesting

Ryan! Great reaction. You didn't get into the lyrics much on this... but they are very intriguing. It's a song about a woman who is in love with a married man who has come to realize she will never be more than his mistress and that he will never leave his wife.

Now I don't have to rewind "Puzzle" three times to hear it three times. Now I can rewind it once, and hear it six times! Thank you and God bless you, po!

This was a fantastic idea for a reaction video. Examining the CD recording followed by the two videos. But truthfully after the acoustic version you just need a little time - wow. I wish Band-Maid would release some their acoustic recordings on a CD. Thanks again

Love this song! Love the acoustic because it really shows how beautiful Saiki's voice is and get to hear Kanamincho's soft, beautiful voice as well. Thank you for reacting to these videos.

This may be my #1 Band Maid song, especially the live version. It's the little things, Miku bobbing to the rhythm, Kanami dancing with her guitar and that look on Akane's face as the tempo of the song builds. Perfect performance of a beautiful and complex song.

Love this song. Kanamis constant riffs, and awesome solo. This song live, really shows the whole Maid feel. Not just the outfits. The chandeliers, light stands, video boards all add to the theme. Very emotional, beautiful song. Kanami and Raikei awesome together. Kanamis tones are awesome.

I just want to tell you how much JOY I got from watching you hearing Puzzle for the first time. I legit was grinning so hard and wiping tears. Why? Because I knew just how much you would love this song based on your other reactions. And yeah, the feel of the lyrics changes along with the feel of the music in this song. Saikis delivery helps with that feel as well. Great reaction, loved it. So happy that you finally got to this point. :)

This is one of their best songs still for me. Heavy, catchy, progressive, dynamic. All the versions are awesome. Also right there with this song is Matchless Gum which was a non album track that came on the YOLO single.

I think in one of their interviews, Kanami mentioned that she actually compose songs in a slower tempo and then speeds them up to achieve the hard rock sound. It's no surprise that many of her tunes can be played slow. However, it's not like we get to hear her original compositions often so it's still a big treat for us fans whenever they play the acoustic versions.

Ryan, your T-shirt!! For the win!! Really great reactions to a truly great song. It always amazes me that different versions of Band-Maid songs - studio, live, acoustic - produce three different songs. So complex, yet also so accessible, with an emotional impact so wide and deep it's like going down to the ocean and looking out to the horizon. There is real beauty in Band-Maid's songs and, for me, this is nowhere more evident than in their acoustic performances. This must be the music angels listen to in heaven.

Thank you Ryan for this reaction, love how you pointed out the difference in the vocal nuance between the electric and the acoustic. Saiki's delivery is emotionally brilliant in both. What poignant lyrics by Miku. What great composition by Kanami. What beautiful harmonies by Miku, and Kanami. The engine room drive of MISA and Akane. Puzzle is just one more Band-Maid song that I love. And to watch someone else enjoy the music I love is a great gift, so thank you once more

Great video. I can't really express how much I love this song, so I'll just point out some minutiae. The little music box like tune that is playing before the acoustic version is the melody of their song Anemone which they play an acoustic version of right after Puzzle. So for the people who know the Band-Maid catalog, it was both foreshadowing and a little bit of a fake out because they played Puzzle first.

Oh, thanks, I haven't listened to Anemone yet, so I didn't get that.
