I am a Florida boy through and through born and raised, but for the last 22 years i have lived in Michigan. I turned 53 the 24th of this month and i am planning the rest of my life back in Florida. I have not fished since i left Florida. I just don't care much for freshwater fishing. I love watching your video's. Until i get back i will live through your video's and reviews. Alot has changed in the fishing world since i left, but through you i can learn. Thankyou for all you do and keep hookin them baby.

I can relate! I grew up in Sarasota and I'm stuck in NC for now. I'm just a few years younger than you too. I've caught some freshwater fish here and it's boring, I can't get interested in bass or trout. Hopefully I'll be able to move south in about 3 months. I plan on getting an old school bus to live in so I can live cheap. I'll have to work so I may drift around for a while and see if I find something I want to stick with.

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Moved to Lakeland when I was 13. Last of 5 kids, only boy. My dad was stationed at Patrick AFB, so if we went to the beach it was Satellite or Cocoa Beach. Looking back on it now, with 3 boys of my own, it was a great time to be a kid in Florida in the 70’s and 80’s. The stories that were told, the people you’d meet while fishing on a pier has to be like train travel 100 years ago. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Gheenoe Boat Manufacturing showed up and that was the end of my pier fishing and shrimping days. But what I’ll remember most about those first couple years in Florida was the pier fishing, the walk down A-1-A to Lums for two hotdogs and back to fishing. All this before sunscreen was for normal people…. Thanks for the memories Ryan!

There are better ways to get fish up if you plan to release. Some of those fish likely don't survive the way you are handling them, heaving them, dropping them on the pier, etc.
