This really is a sweet location. I live here in the Gulf of Mexico in the Bradenton/Sarasota area. Hit the pier 3 weeks ago and nailed a monster 37 inch slob. But missed 2 Giants this weekend when I went. Got put on this spot watching Ryan's vids. Truly amazing spot. Lots of faithful locals fish this spot literally daily Very nice fishing this spot after us being so hurt by the redtide unfortunately. Its not just the Pier either. These waters are just great. Lost another beast right around 930 p.m. on the flairhawk under the A1A Great video

When I am fishing on the piers of FL and I get a legal size nobody asks me to release. I do not need someone telling me when to release a fish, just because s/he thinks I should. I have the right to enjoy a good eating besides my ability to buy any fish I want from the market. To eat what you catch is part of the fun.

When I have a snook wrapped under a pier, I slide a snap swivel onto my mainline with a small meshbag full of tobacco, and let it hit the snooks face, for some reason they HATE the smell and come right out.

I don't worry about catching fish. If that was how I measured success, I would have picked the wrong sport. I just like being out on the water; boat, pier, or surf. Catching a fish is a plus.

I would say the strongest fish on those piers would either be a Goliath, or one of those GIANT stingrays. I’m a west coast fisherman, and those 100 pound bat rays whoop sole serious ass!

I note that you're using a level wind reel. Is that your usual, or do you switch off with conventional based on situation? I was given to understand that a level wind limits cast distance. I ask as I was considering getting a baitcast reel and not sure what to start with.
@RyanMorie5 жыл бұрын
John Leonard all situation based. Not many dudes will throw a bait caster from the pier, but Alec is on another level. Most of the applications he uses it for I’d recommend people go with a MH spinning setup

@over14984 жыл бұрын
The lip tear could definitely kill it if it makes it hard to eat. And in this case if the lip tear didn't kill it, the 35ft drop onto its face probably did.
