In this episode Ryan Myers, Justin Lee, and Ben Zyons spearfish on the incredible Hamakua coast. They harvest big Uhus, Moana kali, Omilu, and Kumu. Ryan gets a bit more archery practice and then Sam and Ryan make the best ceviche ever while attempting to not say fish.

RECIPE for John's Magic Ceviche:
Your self-caught fish of choice
1/2 cup lime juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
2-3 garlic cloves
Big handful of chopped cilantro
Some type of spicy pepper (we used jalapeño)
salt & pepper to taste
shot of tequila (or mezcal if you're really fancy)
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, make sure the fish is fully submerged in the juice, then let chill in the fridge for at least one hour. Enjoy with chips and your favorite tequila based drink!

Bro I have been spearfishing for less than 2 months now. I watched all your videos and now I'm killing fish every drop on the reef here in Australia! My lady loves it too! We dive together, harvest together, and cook together! What's more romantic than oxygen deprivation, fish guts, and hot peanut oil? We love the whole process. We have been trying heaps of your recipes! We especially love your 'optional' step (crack a beer)! Your wisdom is readily absorbed, especially the underwater narration of hunting techniques/thought process. Please keep dropping knowledge with these vids. How ya garn from the mid north coast 🍌🤙

Completely open and relax your support hand. Allow your strong hand when you're pulled back to keep the bow upright. Close your support hand after you shoot and let the bow fall smoothly for your follow through. It helps so you're not drifting right or left. If you're right side dominant and you're holding the bow with your left hand you tend to shoot a bit to the right. Opposite if its your right hand supporting the bow. Give it a try, guarantee you're gonna see an immediate difference. 🤙

Love your videos. You have given so much advice, I thought I would give back! I promise, if you keep drawing the bow back like that, you will seriously regret it one day. Always draw the bow back on the way UP to the target. That way, on the day your quick release fails or accidentally discharges, you will shoot into the dirt preventing you from shooting the neighbors or losing your arrow. God bless you and Sam!

Ryano! Just like diving down with your gun in a streamlined position you need to streamline your drawing the bow. Left shoulder down. Try keep the sight pointing closer to the target from the beginning, (not up to the sky), this will save you time in getting your pin on the target, which saves your stabilising muscles, which basically means less pin float when you ready to shoot. But for a beginner those groups aren’t bad at all. Awesome stuff!

Hey brother loving your videos! One thing that changed my archery forever was relaxing my front hand. When I practice I actually leave my hand completely relaxed (even slightly open). Only after the shot where the bow is about to fall out of my hand do I grasp it. A wrist strap really helps with this. This changed my world and resulted in the tightest groups I’ve ever had. The last was practicing so much that I didn’t have to raise my bow up when drawing. This not only allowed for faster target acquisition but longer hold times when waiting for that broadside shot. I hope my personal obstacles might help you out. Would love to know if it does. Keep it up!!!

@@RyanMyersExpeditions so cool to see ya working it. Yea that changed my game completely. I couldn’t torque the bow off of my aim point with my grip which resulted in tighter groups. Keep it up love the videos!

Sam and Ryan, Small suggestion to DAD to your Ceviche just all half a Red diced onion and at the end add about 3-4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and mix. Then you could also chop up some green onion to add color like the cilantro but a slight freshness green on ion gives you could add it in the end. Just a small kine tip my Mexican chef friend in Fresno, Ca shared with me and also I found the same suggestions from an Spanish chef about 5 years ago. The olive oil is a real Spanish touch.

Great video as always. Looking at your bow set up, I think you need a stabilizer for your bow. It helps immensely when trying to aim. I think you'll find it very helpful when you have one on your bow.

I don't spearfish but I do bow hunt. Like some of the other comments have said open and relax your hand holding the bow. The top of the bow should slowly fall toward the target after the shot. A wrist sling and stabilizer weight will make a big difference in helping you shoot more consistently. Also great video!

Great video as usual! Seems you really enjoyed dinner ;) If I may make a suggestion in case you want to try something different, here in Mexico we don't use garlic in Ceviche we use onion instead and no lemons just limes, all fish will do but Sierra or some kind of Mackerel is preferred for the right meat texture, 1800 is a great Tequila and putting it in the freezer does take the edge off also it IS Mexican tequila, Patron for instance is all MKT for the USA.... we don't drink it here, Great content guys!

Ceviche!!! I call it glorified Pico bc it's basically pico de gallo, just add fish and citrus juice! Ooh, I wonder what it would be like w orange juice?! Hmmm . . I also like to add some Clamato juice (V8 wld probably work as well) once the fish has had the chance to marinate. I like the tequila idea!!

New here, cool video! Safety tip on your bow shooting.... I've always been taught to complete a full draw before lifting the arrow point above your target. For the piece of mind the arrow dosen't have a chance to fire unexpectedly into the air, does happen now and then but if it does happen while the arrow is downward or below the target the chances of it hurting somthing or someone is less than if it launches up!

I agree with what you said regarding shooting more roi. It would be a great idea to go about and se3 how many roi and other invasive you can clean off the reef. 3 prong a mess of táape and toau! That could make an action filled video. I have a question regarding this video. Why did you poke your gun at the mu? I thought they were shy enough on their own without you training them to be wary of you.
