As someone who is building a race car right now there is nothing more entertaining than watching you lads get stuck into it, unreal stuff boys
@ZenDrives2 ай бұрын
Came to basically write this😂 I still don't understand why these build-intensive projects keep using original chassis in the age of modular carbon tub available from specialist companies like DashCAE or simply using a gently-broken Alfa Rome 4c/Mclaren 570 chassis to drape all this hard work over, easier, better, stronger, faster... Why keep all that stamped out metal that limp noodles without all that weight of stitch welding/reinforcement anyways?
@Barry.ONeill2 ай бұрын
@@ZenDrives For the love of the Chassis itself and the Nostalgia but mainly A rule book dictates chassis rules for Rallying there are a bunch of rules especially over here in Ireland being governed by the Fia . We build mostly tarmac rally cars here in Ireland and these boys do nice work definitely 👌 we do things a bit differently in the real world nobody is out there tig welding everything it bad enough if you buy the cage out of t45 that has to be tig welded instead of a Cds cage that can be mig welded but you save 20 to 30 kilograms with t45🤙 I'm not aloud carbon doors or a carbon roof on my rally car that is in a modified class, it has to be same material as factory back years ago fellas building race and rally classic minis use to make the roof skin out of thiner sheet metal just to save as much weight as possible.
@ZenDrives2 ай бұрын
Haha well that explains it!! When this is done, bet I'm not alone in hoping this team can apply all this on an unlimited personal project - what would that be?!@@Barry.ONeill
@brennan24862 ай бұрын
@@ZenDrivessorry but why would you hack up a completely different chassis (more expensive one) when you have a perfectly good one? Same reason why motorsport teams are using OEM chassis there are regulations, it's always been like that.

@@CelicAWD Oh really? I thought they were lighter, thats pretty chunky
@wimmj69522 ай бұрын
I was surprised theyre as heavy as they are, i would have thought right at 3000lbs but Not a lot of weight saving parts in the st185 at least thats for sure, the usdm specs seem to mostly be fully spec’d cars. Leather, system10, sunroof, abs, ac, airbags. They got chunky pretty fast, looking for ways to slim mine down a bit without ruining it too much. Carbon dynamics make a ton of really nice parts, not in my budget at the moment tho

It's curious that the NHRA mandates a diagonal from the main hoop forward that crosses the driver between shoulder and elbow, but road race and drift sanctioning bodies don't. And it could be argued that road race and drift cars are much more susceptible to rollover and side impact. Fantastic work!
