Rocca was one up with two to play and went bogey-bogey to cost Europe the cup. The following Ryder Cup, Strange did the same thing against Faldo to cost US the cup.

Why has Couples never been a Ryder Cup Captain?

I always wondered this also. I have read that he has turned it down multiple times due to the responsibilities and time it takes. He enjoys being a vice captain and captain during Presidents Cups which he has done multiple times. I wish he would change his mind. Think he would be good when the Ryder Cup goes to Bethpage in 2025.

This was always my favorite Ryder Cup. The intensity of Faldo, and the joy of watching Floyd compete with players half his age. As a side note, the captain of the team almost won the British Open 16 years later. Of course Tom is one of the greats, but it’s still amazing to think about in 1993.
