Anyone remember the previous paintjob on the Flying Witch (Haunted Mansion)? As a kid in the late 70s and early 80s, that paint job and Zombie Castle were AWESOME! I wish I could see them again, cant find any clear pictures of them! Anyone know of any shots of them? 😔

I grew up in a house that is right at the edge of the Playland parking lot. Back in the 70s you could freely walk through the park during the off season. We would walk through the Old Mill when the water was drained out and scare ourselves silly. Back then there were paper mache gnomes, monsters snd dragons in there. I once climbed to the top of the Dragon Coaster lift hill. Fortunately, no one saw me up there. My buddy and I used to go to the workshop that was in the upper floor of the skating rink and look at the rides and monsters from the dark rides they were currently working on. I remember seeing a bumper car flipped over on its side and marveling how the shaft of the drive motor was stationary and the body of the motor, had a tire wrapped around it, would spin around the stationary shaft. That same friend and I used to actually STAND while riding the Dragon Coaster. The lap constraints were that loose. We had to duck when we approached the head chopper. That insanity ended when an operator, an older gentleman ordered us to stay seated in the car when the train emptied out. He chewed us out a little for our foolishness and banned us from the coaster for the rest of the day. We agreed that he was right and never did that again. What great memories! Today I have a Whip car in my living room that I’m restoring, and I own the original Peppy the Musical Clown coin-op marionette that I used to love as a little boy in the early 60s. I guess when you grow up right next to an amusement park, you develop a lifelong deep love for them.
