RYHILL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - The boundaries between Ryhill and Havercroft changed in 1930 when Mulberry place was built, which was originally part of Havercroft, as was Royston pit and coke works. - On the road towards Wintersett, on your left amongst the trees are lots of waterlogged ditches. They are bell pits of Saxon/monastic origin. - Most of the houses down Station Road used to be pubs or shops once upon a time. - The first chapel we came to in the video was the Primitive Methodist Chapel, the original building for that was the cottage across from the Liberal, built in 1850s. - The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was originally the stone building across the road, built in 1828 and there’s a large commemorative stone on the backdoor of the current chapel. With dwindling numbers after the war, the Methodists merged in the 1960s.

Another good one. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty certain Hiendley is pronounced Heendley. You’ve got me wondering. I’ll ask a local the next time I’m cycling in the area.
@TheVillageIdiot3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is according to a lot of locals who saw the HWCH vid. Thatll be my Lincolnshire roota wanting to sound it as its spelt. No worries though, South Hiendley episode will address that
