Most of their songs are about Military History. This song is about the WWII Russian 588th all female night bomber regiment. Yarnhub made an animated story video for this song, which gives more info. Sabaton also has a History channel where they give an in depth history for each songs subject. Yes, the band is from Sweden. Lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary songwriters and the only original members still with the band, Chris Rorland and Tommy Johansson on guitar and Hannes Van Dahl on drums are the rest of the current lineup. (Hannes is married to Nightwish's Floor Jansen) Yes, do the video for Christmas Truce. Also the animated video for No Bullets Fly. Plus other songs to try, Bismarck, Primo Victoria, Soldier of Heaven, The Unkillable Soldier.

Hey guys. As others have said, this is a song about the Night Witches, "Die Nachthexen," as the Germans called them. The Night Witches were the 588th Night Bombing Regiment of the Soviet Air Force. They flew the PO-2 flight trainer as a plane, which was a First World War biplane, and the women who flew were given the same uniforms and boots as the men. But this did not deter them -- they wanted to fight the Germans as much as the men did. The reason they were called the Night Witches was because when they would find their targets, they would shut off their engines and glide in. Usually, two of the three planes that went on the mission, after they dropped their two bombs, would then cover for the third plane. Despite their tactics -- and especially the fact that the PO-2 had the fastest turning radius in the Soviet Air Force -- 32 women, navigators and pilots, never made it home. 23 women were awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest honor during the war. In the time the Night Witches fought, they went on more than 18,000 sorties and dropped over 3,000 tons of bombs. After the war, the unit's Commissar retired in 1956. After she retired, she went out and found every crash site where her girls had gone down, so they could get the awards they were due post-humously, since it was Soviet military protocols that if any service member was merely MIA (Missing In Action), military service awards were denied, as there would be no confirmation that the person in question was dead, deserted, or had simply disappeared. Because of her efforts, the story of the 588th Night Bombing Regiment is one of the most accurate stories to come out of the Second World War. The last Night Witch died in 2017. May their service never be forgotten, and may it serve as an inspiration to those that serve for all time.

I love the line "Rodina awaits defeat them at the gates. " rodina apparently means "Motherland" in Russian so the line means "Motherland awaits defeat them at the gates. " I absolutely love that line.

It's funny because, even though the lyric video is great and good for reading the lyrics, this song has two videos that are great for reacting. The animated story video provides all the context you need to really hey into the story of these pilots, and the live performance in The Great Tour is my favorite Sabaton live because it has the best use of pyrotechnics. Every Sabaton song is improved even more by knowing it's story so they're always great for reslistening. Great reactions, I would love to see more from this duality you guys have.

So glad yall have gotten to Sabaton! So many amazing song and videos! Yarn Hub does animation foe some of their videos and it's so worth the watch/react! They tell you the story behind the song. This one, Night Witches, it's VERY much worth seeing the story behind who they are, and it perfectly explains the lyrics. No Bullets Fly is another animated video from Sabaton, a wonderful story behind that one as well. Bismark is another great one, though it's a regular music video. Any of those would be great for your next one! So many more to go through beyond them. They also have the Sabaton History channel here on YT that does also go into the stories of the songs. Fun fact - the drummer, Hannes Van Dahl, for Sabaton is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish. Always try to watch til the very end of Sabaton and Nightwish vids. Sometimes there's some extras! Maybe you two can watch the Animated Story Video from Nitght Witches which they did wir Yarn Hub. Besides of that, every Sabaton Song is amazing and every single Sabaton song has a historical Background. They teach History packed in Metal :-) They point out People and Soldiers who did outstanding things, showed mercy or just did heroic things during the World Wars to protect their country and the Ones they Love. Fun Fact: The name "Night Witches" came from the Germans who called them "Nachthexen", because they turned off the Engine of their planes for attack to glide in. The sound the Planes made was a "Woooooosh" like a Witch on her broom ;)

If I may be so bold to suggest when you react to a Sabaton song you do a sort of double reaction with the accompanying Sabaton History channel video for it. They are 15-20 minutes long but provide valuable insight into the stories that inspire the songs and also go into some detail as to why those stories were chosen

Bismarck / A song about the german battleship Bismarck in WWII. The video is going to blow your mind guys! 2. En livstid i krig / A Live video from Gothenburg and The Scandinavium Arena. 14000 fans singing along! Sabaton are awesome live. Epic Video, This one is going to make you cry! If you want to listen to a band that will forever change your perception of metal music (and of music in general possibly) then check out Nightwish performing "Ghost Love Score" live at the Wacken Open Air Festival. Their singer is considered by many to be the greatest female vocalist on Earth (in fact she is often referred to as the "Valkyrie Goddess of Metal" among other such titles.) The band was actually founded by their keyboardist who also writes about 95% of their music and lyrics and he is often referred to as "The Metal Mozart". Also, as an interesting fact, their vocalist is actually married to the drummer of Sabaton. P.S. I also recommend having the lyrics handy as well (to better appreciate to the magnificent poetry behind them).

Nightwitches, the all women Russian bomberregiment 588. The flew old crop planes made out of wood and cloth. Flew bombraides over German troops during nights and when they came close to target they stopped their engines and glided in to drop their 💣. Thus stealth perfected. Bad ass women!

It really hurts, seeing that you liked the whole experience and forgot to research which video to watch. The full length "Animated Story Video" (just as with "No Bullets Fly") blows this poor lyrics thing out of the water but unfortunately, there's never a second chance to get a first impression. Watching Sabaton videos without the historical context (and here especially) is just not the same at all. Hope you can do research before the next one and make sure that you watch the correct ones (Bismarck, Christmas Truce, No Bullets Fly, Defence of Moscow, Steel Commander and so many more).
