RYOBI 18V ONE+ 24Q Hybrid Power Cooler Test & Review (

We travel with our car and trailer. It's nice to have a portable battery powered frig/freezer. We always have solar or car power, but finding ice can be a problem. Ice also takes up a lot of space within the cooler.
RYOBI has come out with their new 24Qt Cooler that runs on 18V Ryobi batteries, 12V cigarette sockets, or 110AC. In direct sunlight and 85F outside, with cooler set at 35F in Max mode, it ran for 4 hours with a 9Ah battery. The voltage dropped to 17.4V and the battery still showed 2 bars.
This cooler is not cheap ($499 list price). If you don't already own RYOBI batteries or don't need the portability, there are other vendors that sell larger units at a similar price.
Here are things I used to test:
* Ryobi PI1824QBT (www.homedepot....)
* RYOBI 9Amp battery ( amzn.to/3kNwS2u )
* 24Liter 40W heater/cooler ( amzn.to/3ZkIid4 )
* 44Q ICECO 12V Cooler/freezer/fridge ( amzn.to/3mgA07g )
* Load tester ( amzn.to/3ycBan8 )

I found the exact cooler this is a rebrand of: the Alpicool MT25. Alpicool sells adapters to use Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt batteries. It's about $300; the Ryobi markup is outrageous. If someone could make a 3d print file to adapt Ryobi batteries to the Alpicool version, that would be awesome.

@@ethananderson1682800.00 right now. 38L vs 24L. Ice maker vs no ice maker. Has direct solar input. Has dual zones instead of one. Use an app for control vs nothing for this one. Battery included for 40 hours of run time. By the time you buy batteries with this it will be over 600. 800 is still a lot of money but it at least has a lot more features than this thing does. Oh sorry it also has 100watt usb c for laptop charging and other devices.

Great review. The problem with tall bottles around the inside edge hitting the lid is common on all of these coolers. It's a shame that when connected to AC power it doesn't charge the batteries. It's also sad that they used the hard-to-find power plug common on many of these DC cooler/freezers, but I suppose there are so many in use now that they would have gotten flack for using something else. I think I will stick with my F40C4TMP which runs just fine from the 18V batteries with a buck converter or the Ryobi DC power adapter like you demonstrated. Thanks for laying out the cash and sharing with everyone.

Ok but 4 hours at 35 degrees in direct sun at 85 with 1 battery is AMAZING. so 2 batteries at 45 degrees in the shade should easily last a work day. The weight kinda makes it tough for construction workers to add to there personal arsenal. But a crew with it added to the decor of a truck and a dedicated extension cord seems totally worth it

I wish it had 4 wheels instead, however I could place it in my cart/wagon. If I were in an emergency situation then I would place the cooler underground and insulate it so it could use the 54F ground temperature to extend the batteries.

Why wouldn't they make use of the 40V line. I guess I can run it with the 40V power station....
@CapitanDart
@CapitanDart Жыл бұрын
Because they made it to run on about 14v so it can be powered by the battery and the car without having to convert the power. If it ran on 40v they would have to put more electronics to make the step down. They where already going to have to do a converter brick for the household power either way. Ryobi only markets the 40v line only as outdoor power tools such as lawn care and the 18v line is for everything.
@1LowSeventy3
@1LowSeventy3 Жыл бұрын
@Capitan Dart a step down is the size of a small board. I don't see how this would impact it size wise or add extra stuff.
@CapitanDart
@CapitanDart Жыл бұрын
@@1LowSeventy3 I didn't say anything about size being a problem. Also not sure how they would add in a "small board" without adding extra stuff as you put it. There is also inherit loss in converting the power instead of using equipment rated for 40v. I would think it boils down to them making a choice to support the much much larger 18v line instead of the smaller more geared to outdoor power equipment 40v line.
