That's my battery! The back story for anyone interested is that it was on FB marketplace advertised as an 18v jobbie with a dead battery. I already have 18v tools so decided to grab it. When I turned up it was 36v. The guy selling was pretty motivated seller though so I got it for a song. Thanks heaps for having a look over it mate.

I should get time to re solder these few joints and see how we go. Mates got a 36v mower so i might borrow it and test her out

Just taken delivery of an unused, uncharged 2017 36V battery pack of the same design. Very dead. Can you send a link to the "little beast" variable voltage / current power supply, looks very useful, should hopefully get it going again. Thanks for a great channel...
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms Link dead. Name/make/model please? No rush.

My 2 batteries got 37 and 39v but wont charge. they get the red/green blinking. i got 2 new batteries, that charge fine, but they do not fit my chainsaw... how do i fix my old batteries?
@spinnanz2 жыл бұрын
Do you know if the devices these things power need the 2 contacts that don't supply voltage? I'm thinking to just fit a generic 10s 50a BMS.

So, I have 4 of these not working, one measures 40v and charger flashes red/green... Bad BMS? Then again, I don't know how to test the charger either. Any ideas at all would help, been at this type of stuff for years but have seen thermal discharge first hand and also killed the 6s rail on an iMac B6AC, so my projects cme to a grinding halt earlier this year... Go figure, 2020...

I assume you are from UK ? In USA, Ryobi battery is labeled as 40 volts instead of 36 volts. I have replaced 2 packs of these Lithium batteries. Both were overheated while using my 40V - 21” push lawnmower. Most cells will read zero volt because the CID activated due too much heat. After I reset the CID, the battery read 3.5 volts I think the 2 black wires for Thermal sensor device maybe placed in the wrong location (positive battery terminal at 40V, far right at the end)? I measured 4 amps while Lawnmown is running so I will test the battery pack after I replaced all new Molicel 2,600 mAh INR-P26A cells at 4 amps discharging on my DC Electronic load and see which location is the hottest to relocate the sensor, I hope that would fix the root cause ?

I have Ryobi OP40401 40VDC batteries for my brush cutter. The device works well but the slightest moisture in the battery will cause a fault. Last Summer I used the brush cutter on a foggy day, no rain and the battery would not charge afterward. I opened the case and the board looked perfect but there was a very, very, slight film of moisture and I assume that ruined the BMS. In summary some of the Ryobi Li batteries are very, very sensitive to moisture. I bumped into someone at Home Depot and they were also disappointed with the lack of durability, he was on his third battery in four years.

You can also charge it by loosening the screw near the shunt resistor and attaching the alligator clip to it and the positive terminal on the main connector. I also think that you need to explain things better and get a head cam so that you can use both hand.. lol

It would have been helpful if you had shown where you took your v measurements instead of showing the volt measurements (you read them out loud) on your voltmeter.

So many bad reviews on these Ryobi 36v batteries. There is suspicion that BMS is programmed to fail at certain conditions. Checking cells won't help. You may need to add in your own 10s bms.EDIT: I've probed about a lot more and I've found the MOSFETs have a bit of a problem with Rds on. The resistance goes high and over time , efficiencies go down until the MOSFET on resistance is so high that it causes all sorts of issues. Cid popping. Charger not recognizing , too much heat which in turn causes bad joints and condensation, etc. I've yet to confirm completely but I think the BMS at worst case can be reset once all other things are sorted out

Vibrations kill the solder joins i suspected. Thats what all the failed ones I've seen havr wrong.

These batteries are so evil. Worked on another one with all popped cids. I replaced all with good 25r batteries. Charged manually partly then the original charger did the rest. Used it to half way level and now it won't charge again. Devil batteries belong in hell.
