One thing I have discovered with my Ryboi 40v chainsaw, is that the battery will have a longer runtime and cut more wood if you cut some wood, then set the chainsaw down to do a little cleanup and pile your wood, then cut some more, repeat... This gives the battery a little time to cool down while you are cleaning up the site. If you continually run the chainsaw and cut wood without stopping, the battery tends to overheat and can cause the chainsaw to stall out. Also, the battery can overheat to the point where it shuts itself down to protect itself, and then you won't be cutting any wood for awhile. I grew up using gas chainsaws, and would cut everything up and then, at the end, cleanup the site and pile the wood. With the battery chainsaws, it's much better to cut a little, cleanup the site for awhile, and then cut some more. I now get longer run times and cut more wood with the same battery.

Thanks for spending the time to put this together! The cap on mine also leaked oil; it's an issue where the cap doesn't seat right on the threads and the oring doesn't get compressed to make a good seal. If you add a second oring right over the first, that'll take care of the leaking.

That sounds like it would work. That is a standby with water hoses.
@Gigachadly2 жыл бұрын
@@gregpalmer9949 what do you mean by “ standby with water hoses “ like are you using this as a rig to go fall trees during forest fires or why does it have to be with hoses? I’m just curios.
@Gigachadly2 жыл бұрын
@@gregpalmer9949 I just recently bought one of these btw, absolutely love it , had a 80volt kobalt cordless chainsaw before this that was great but was way heavier and got less cuts then this. Got the one with the 14’ bar but can’t o just put on a 18 inch ?
@gregpalmer99492 жыл бұрын
@@Gigachadly I think you could put an eighteen inch bar on the fourteen inch saw. However if you want it to be lightweight and make the most cuts, consider changing to a twelve inch bar and chain. The professional electric saws that arborists use are mostly equipped with twelve inch bars, so they can make the most cuts. The eighteen inch bar is good if you want to be able to clean up a big tree that falls across a road and you can make a few really big cuts.

I bought the Ryobi 40v 14-inch chainsaw before they came out with the 18-inch version. I'm really happy with the 14-inch model. However, I asked Ryobi support if the 14-inch and 18-inch models are using the same motor and if I could upgrade my 14-inch bar with an 18-inch bar. Ryobi support did not directly answer the question if they used the same motor on their 40v chainsaws, but they did tell me that I should have no problem upgrading my bar to 18-inches. Nice review of this chainsaw.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I received both of your comments, although only one seems to appear here. Your other point that the battery can overheat if run continuously, I have also experienced. Thanks again

Most Ryobi tools have a parts list available, you can compare part numbers for the motor.
@gtaus1 Жыл бұрын
@@Pro1er Well, I am guessing that they are not the exact same 40v motor. But I was trying to get Ryobi to list the torque and/or speed differences between their 40v chainsaw motors. They would not answer that question. They do not seem to want to share that info so the consumer can compare the products. Ryobi just announced a 40v 20-inch chainsaw, but there is nothing online about the specs of that model yet. Again, I'm guessing that there is probably not much of a difference between the 40v 20-inch chainsaw motor and the 40v 14-inch chainsaw motor, but I could easily be wrong.
@Pro1er Жыл бұрын
@@gtaus1 In Ryobi's ad they claim that the 20" 40V chainsaw has 3.5X more power, but they don't specify more than what. FYI, the 14" and the 18" do use different motors.
@gtaus1 Жыл бұрын
@@Pro1er Yeah, I find it hard to believe that a newer 40v motor is 3.5X more powerful than their previous 40v chainsaw motors. But they could be. I'm saying that gas engines were measured in HP or CC so you could compare engines, electric motors need some way to compare their power as well, like maybe torque and/or speed, and those specs should be listed up front.

Great video, as a note the oil bottle has a screen in it to keep the wood out of the pump. I want to also note that if you use the bigger wrench to tighten the nuts you should keep it with you because if you want to loosen up the nuts that you might not be able with the smaller wrench out in the field?

2:37That chain brake is another advantage of the 18-inch saw over the 16-inch and 14-inch, which do not have one.
@gtaus1 Жыл бұрын
According to the specs of the 16-inch Ryobi 40v chainsaw on the Home Depot website, the 16-inch chainsaw also has a chain brake. I have the 14-inch model and it does not have a chain brake.
@Pro1er Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live. In the USA some of the smaller Ryobi battery chainsaws don't have a chain brake, but as far as I know all of the ones sold in Europe and Australasia have a brake.

love that saw. Was completely impressed, but annoyed on the oil cap. however, just has to sit right to get sealed. hopefully they fix it for future owners.
@gregpalmer99492 жыл бұрын
It is a part you use every time. It would be nice if the cap was more substantial. I have two Husquavarna machines. One has the same kind of cap. The other has a lovely cap that not only always seals well, but when it is sealed the cap is flush with the housing so you can easily clean it off before opening.

I hang my Ryobi 14-inch chainsaw on a screw into a pole. I have never seen any oil leaks. But oil leakage is a common complaint I hear about my model as well. I just have never seen it hanging my chainsaw vertically.
