That Ryobi drill surprisingly looks a lot higher quality and professional compared to today's Toyoby😂😂

Thanks for this upload! I haven't done this in more than 20 years and forgot that the chuck threads on to the motor armature and needs a quick hammer rap on a pair of vice grips to break it loose. I was trying to unsuccessfully pry it off until I saw you unscrewing the chuck from the shaft lol!

I was thinking of getting a keyed chuck from HF and replacing the keyless chuck on my Ryobi driver. Do you think it would work? The current chuck doesn't hold standard bits tight enough. It seems to be meant for buts with a hex shank.

It would have to have the same thread pitch. Honestly the metal chuck from ryobi holds really well. I have never tried a keyed chuck on a newer drill. I haven't used a keyed chuck in probably 15 years lol, sorry but I don't have an answer for you there.

I honestly tried to find a replacement but couldn't find one for less than $30, and you can get a brand new hammer drill from home depot for $40 right now, it's just not worth it. If you are set on keeping your drill and replacing that chuck, go to a direct tools outlet or any pawn shop, offerup, etc and just pick up the cheapest ryobi drill you can find, I have seen them go for as little as $5 on offerup. Then just take that chuck.
