I bought the 40 V kit. And that thing is absolutely fantastic. Yes that light bar is an LED and probably has three levels of brightness, as well as mine comes with a flashing red for roadside emergencies. As for the charging yes mine has an actual charging cable. Yeah, I would say it’s still pretty slow, more of a battery maintenance style charge than a rapid charge. That said, I can run just about any thing off of the one I have and getting the extra 6ah batteries was pretty nice but I didn’t even spend $900 to get the generator and 2 6ah 40 V batteries

For the money, needs a port for a solar panel, if they want to go the camping route. Pretty sure someone will mod one in, or find a converter for the existing power supply.

Looks good , so the numbers 3000 start up and 1800 is that with 4 batteries , and if so does that mean it doubles those numbers when you add the other 4 batteries on the other side , I'm guessing that it's just going to give you more runtime. Either way , still pretty impressive
@Tony-sy7ed
@Tony-sy7ed Жыл бұрын
Adding 4 more batteries for a total of 8 extends the run time. Connecting 2 of those ryobi inverters in parallel, using the parallel kit, is what’s going to double the power output and give you a much higher watt rating. That capability along with the ability to hot swap battery, meaning you can pull off spent batteries and add full fresh batteries without having to power the device down and keep your unit running. My ego inverter has the hot swap ability and it’s great. My Milwaukee does not do this. So when one battery dies the entire unit will shut off until you add 4 topped off batteries and power it back on.

This is just like a portable power station such as a Jackery. This looks to be 432 Watts (24AH x 18V= 432WH) which means if you have a 32 LED TV that draws 50 Watts you can run it for about 9 hours... A comparable Jackery Explorer 518 Watt is half the price at $500. Or you can DIY your own portable Power Station with over 1250 Watts for $500. Super easy, 100AH (100A BMS) Lifepo4 Lithium Battery $300, 500W Pure Sine Wave Inverter $80, Cig Adapter $10, 20A Lithium Charger $60 and Group 31 Battery Box. There are many vids on YT. Sorry Ryobi!

I feel like the biggest missed opportunity with this is not giving it an option to directly hook up solar panels to charge it while camping. Yes you could use a solar panel with an MPPT charger converted to it's USB-C PD but I feel like that's just a kludge not a solution. Also at that price I'd just look at units with built in batteries that have those features already.
@jfraz6246

It apparently suppose to, I think that’s why it’s usb-c powered so it can hook up to those smaller portable panels that have usb direct power. They’re aren’t efficient for anything but I guess it’s something. I’d get this if the bare tool was like $300, because I could use it to back up my purpose built solar generator, and charge the 18v batteries as needed in an emergency during the day, and use this at night to fill any power gaps

a portable generator is cheaper and runs as long as you have gas. big Ryobi user but no thanks.
@Locke99GS
@Locke99GS Жыл бұрын
Battery generator things have their place. For short term power outages or light camping, you may not want to set up and run a gas generator, and do all the steps to make it ready for storage again when you're done. A battery generator is more convenient in that case. A gas generator must be ran outside, so you potentially have to deal with whatever weather may have caused a power outage while setting it up. A battery generator can run inside. Lastly, a battery generator is silent. A gas generator, even a quiet one, is much louder. Of course for longer usage like a longer term power outage or powering an RV, a gas generator clearly makes much more sense. It is easier and cheaper to store a week's worth of power in the form of gasoline than in a gazillion batteries. I have a Honda EU2200i gas generator that is fantastic and plenty of fuel stored for emergencies, but am still interested in some sort of large battery generator to supplement it for short term outages or tent camping.

I have the 40v one, and you won’t want to charge batteries with this if it’s the same. It also charges them one at a time. I use it to run the fridge and freezer in outtages, and then use a rapid charger to charge batteries if needed. I have a ton of 40v batteries so it works fine. You would need at least 12-16 18v to keep it rotating with a rapid charger (like I do on the 40v)

I'm considering getting one for emergencies. Doing the math, it doesn't seem like it would last long on one set of batteries. Better than nothing though. How are you changing batteries without power? I'm assuming a generator. Their solar charging system only claims to output 60w for the largest one.
@jeffhager

If you had all 9ah batteries, this would have just shy of 1300 watt hours of capacity. Honestly not bad, but an Ecoflow (or something similar) has 1000 watt hours, only costs $1000 (Ryobi 9ah batteries would run almost $800 on sale, without the cost of the power station). Plus the Ecoflow uses a much safer LiFePo4 battery chemistry, compared to the more fire prone Li Ion chemistry. Or you could build something a whole lot cheaper with a couple of golf cart batteries or LiFePo4 12v batteries and an inverter. Cool idea, but there are better options out there.
@Tony-sy7ed
@Tony-sy7ed Жыл бұрын
This isn’t meant to be marketed as a company competing with the portable so-gen big names. So there’s not going to be many buying kits with batteries just to keep your refrigerator or tv running in an outage. This is for ryobi tool fans who already have a pile of batteries that might otherwise sit being full of potential energy during a power outage. Instead of them being paper weights you could use them to run things. 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Ecoflow is great and I have a few, as well as bluetti. But when you need to plug in your refrigerator, maybe a chest freezer, run a tv, running wifi router, topping off your cell phone, charging up some rechargeable flashlights, and using the microwave all at the same time, you might start running into problems. I can tell you I won’t be buying this unit for $700. The Milwaukee inverter came in under that and I got almost $200 off of it. I guarantee you I’ll find this for around $450, maybe less. Then after a storm and there’s yard cleanup to do I’ll use the same batteries to fix all the damage. With all cordless tools the ecoflow isn’t going to help that much besides recharging a few batteries but that will make the appliance it’s running not last as long. LiFePo4 batteries don’t belong in power tools, dedicated inverters and EVs are fine but not in power tools. My batteries have never caught fire anyway.

I bought it a couple of weeks ago, I pick it up last week, Im returning it today (as Im writing this post)... hey, it is an ok power station but... for $600 or $700 only for the station plus at least 4 batteries at $130 or $190 plus $220 or $280 for the solar panels, with that kind of money you can buy an Ecoflow/Jackery/etc solar generator for around the same money and have better/faster/more powerful station and plug on it a $30 to $50 30 minutes/fast charger ryobi battery charger. Keep in mind, this power station use a USB-C cable and charger (to charge) at a max of 60 watts, it cannot charge batteries while providing power (is either full discharge or full charge) Also Ryobi claims peak 3000 watts... in real life it cannot handle more than 2400 watts peak... however, it does handle up until 1840 watts (yes it is not a typo, indeed 1840) of running power

I don't know many details about it but I think it's a pretty cool product. As for the charging aspect, a type C can be rated to send 240W of power (and there's actually 1 phone iirc that does this lol. With it's smaller variant capable of 120W gast charging... It's insane to think about it in that context, but that's SuperVOOC for ya 🤷🏽‍♂️).

Research the EcoFlow. They have a 5 year warranty. The 3600wh unit charges in under two hours. The Milwaukee and Ryobi have their place on a job site, but EcoFlow or Bluetti should be seriously looked at if you want something for your home, camping, or travel. In my opinion, EcoFlow is number one in the solar/battery powered generator industry right now. During power outages, I use a small propane generator to charge my 3600wh EcoFlow in under two hours, shut off the generator and save the propane while the EcoFlow powers, all of my 120VAC devices. Refrigerator, TVs, radios, ceiling fans, lights, 120VAC Mini Split air conditioner, and momentary use of microwave or toaster oven when needed.

I don’t understand ryobis pricing with this. It makes no sense honestly. The most expensive thing about these power stations are the cells and when you have a price point of 799 and bringing your own batteries it makes no sense. You can get stand alone ecoflow units with about 800 watts for the same price. Honestly it should be about $250 maximum
@TurboDV8
@TurboDV8 Жыл бұрын
Do the math with Ohm's law, and you will see this is the most expensive nothingburger of a product ever. 8 - 6 Ah batteries is 48 Ah. If you're needing the full rated output of 1800 watts, you're going to be drawing 100 amps from those 18 volt batteries. So your not going to get even a half hour run time with all 8 batteries at rated output using 6 Ah Batts. Use 4 Ah Batts or fewer Batts, and you're talking on the order of a few minutes run time.

I think it’s cool but I’m more invested in Milwaukee batteries than ryobi so for 100$ less I’m going to get the Milwaukee power supply

Not on website yet. Not even as coming soon. At least unlike the 40V (which they lied about when I asked), it's compatible with solar panels.

There is a 40v version and even the RYOBI reps in the stores don’t know about it. If it’s like the 40v, 1800 w is actually for only three minutes and as the manual says but runs only 1600 continuous watts. On the 40v it charges one at a time around 3 amp trickle charge so it takes a while especially on 6ah and up. Also, the display on the 40v doesn’t match up with battery bars on the actually battery. The display will be off and go with what’s in the actual battery as RYOBI said via customer service

I have the 40 volt one it was my first attempt at switching to high power generators/converters. I had a lawn mower so it worked. I have as well a 3600 watt gas generator and than two pure sine 1800 watt gas units. That i run together creating the replacement for my 3600. The 1800 protected my electronics. My biggest gripe is the pure sine gas and these battery inverter generators are mostly controlled through the app. You can only run two on one phone. So if I use my two 1800 along with my 1800 battery it wont do it. It doesnt even allow you to have any more than two even if the circuits are seperated. The only way I can monitor all three is with a 2nd phone and checking both phones apps. I also have a lot invested in the 18v system. This makes sense since milwaukee had a higher powered one and then an 18v one. Wish they'd sell adapters. So I could basically endlessly use 40v/18v batteries. All in all these are very nice from what they are. Just don't try to run a whole house off multiple, more than two, units.

It would be amazing if this came with a alligator clips as well(similar to the 1000W Ryobi inverter), that you could attach to a vehicle battery, that way the max wattage of the unit could be even more.

Two of these in parrele would pretty amazing for household backup power. Instead of dragging a gas generator out in the elements and struggling with cords. You could keep this inside next to a transfer switch. I would live to see ryobi build a hybrid solution. Two of these and a gas generator. The generator kicks in when these drop below 30% or something like that

It would be good if Ryobi would sell that power station that requires 18v batteries here in UK as well. Of course it would require the Type G socket

90W charging via USB C definitely underwhelming. Have a lot of inverters and battery setups, including Ryobi automotive inverters, but needing to recharge ends up being the biggest drawback in the field where you may not have shore power. Most times end up needing a generator or vehicle to charge and often isn't fast enough.

not good it’s a AC generator that requires AC power. if the power is out longer than 10 hours you will a gas generator to charge them

I’m better off without one. I’d try to run my 5hp table saw with it and end up burning the saw motor and the bat-rays up. 😂

i wish the charging batteris would have a 600w mc4 conectors and have it programed that depending on what watts the station is getting is how fast and how many batteries it will charge at a time.

This is a cool thing but I feel like at this size I'd rather it be with the 40v batteries and add a port or an option to charge with solar. That being said it is pretty cool and if it goes on sale and the price comes down i might pick one up
