RYOBI One+ 18V Cordless Bug Zapper Review

It has been a long while since our last power outage. We all, including our house help and her young son, camped out on the living room floor with the front door wide open. There was no air conditioning but we enjoyed nice cool air from outside. The young'uns were happy with their chem lights. We positioned a bug coil, one on either side of the front door, and one step down on the veranda floor. I would be placing this unit in basically the same location for a specific reason, not seven feet up. Most mosquitos tend to attack in the easiest location to bite, IE neck, face, and other similar tissue. Some of our Philippine skeeters carry bad things like dengue fever and malaria. I have been told that the dengue-carrying bugs generally do not fly higher than three (3) feet. That would be the zone where I want the most protection. I think this new device could be a welcome addition next mosquito season. Surprisingly, we have nowhere near the mosquito problem I expected here in the tropics but I do not live in a deep jungle. The local bat population appears to keep things under control most of the year. When the bugs do appear, it is wise to take precautions.

@NewHampshireJack You're lucky Jack we have lost power here 6 times so far this year. Plus just got back from a trip where I used this bad boy. Worked very well to keep the skeeters off me.

Another great review. It would be great for sitting out on a deck, knocking dwn a few adult beverages and relaxing. The light is very non-obtrusive. I was amazed at all the bugs that survived the zapping process. Is the battery interchangeable with the ryobi lantern you reviewed a few months ago?

I used this on a trip up north here recently and I can say this. It works The bugs that are in the tray still kicking I think crawl into the lamp and down into the tray avoiding the zapper part. The clip in this video where there is alot in the tray was after it sat in the grass for a few hours. I'm thinking alot of bug came up out of the grass and ended in the tray without being zapped. Every mosquito I found in this was DEAD. I agree with you an adult beverage would be appropriate. Yes it uses the same 18v Ryobi battery that the lamp uses. Thanks for the comment and views!

What battery is required to run for 6 hours?

I have been using mine with a 4 amp Hour Battery. I have set it for the 6hr time and when I have woke up it is off but has battery power left over. I am assuming it ran for 6hrs But I have not timed it.

Yes. Though I'd only use it when I am there with it.

What an indiscriminate insect killer. I don't see any mosquitoes in the holder. Probably most of those insects were beneficial to the environment and as a result, to us humans.

So you think insect repellent is better for you or the environment? Are you aware the number 1 killer of humans in the entire world is the mosquito? Obviously you don’t get out much.

the mosquitoes tend to get stuck in the wire mesh where they get zapped. Thats why you need to use a bush to clean it up. When you use the brush to clean it they tend to fall out on the ground and not in the tray.
