***CORRECTIONS & UPDATES*** -When I said I wouldn't use it for theater I think a lot of people misunderstood me as saying that it's not capable. This is just as capable as any sealed 12" and will best most of them in a theater environment. What I was saying is most people who build theaters generally use larger ported subwoofers like Rythmiks own FVX12 (which I also love). Again just to be clear this will be a dominant competitor in a theater environment. -Another note on dynamics, a lot of you guys misunderstood me and maybe that's my fault. This subwoofer is plenty dynamic, it just integrates extremely well and for my personal taste I like exaggerated bass that is less accurate and more exciting but that is just my personal taste guys. Do not take this off your list just because it doesn't have the exaggerated characteristics I like as you may prefer it's more natural and accurate bass response. This is an outstanding performer and years later I still own this, if you're like me and prefer a slight exaggeration in the low end go for the FVX12 (I own that too). - I referred to the L22 as the L12 at one point during the comparison, should be obvious which part.

@@danemoreno88 hey bro, just curious what did you not like about the L12? The F12 definitely has more fidelity, SPL, and extension in it and holds it's composure much better at the limit but if your room is big or you're looking for incredibly strong bass I suggest you go for a pair of the FVX12 instead which has A LOT more output and plays just as clean. Very nice review and explanation of the performance characteristics of this sub. I actually own the non SE version of this sub (F12 in the Matte Black finish) I have used it for over 3 years now in a smallish room (12 and 1/2 feet by 17 feet), with a pair of Ascend Acoustics tower speakers, and it performs very well. The bass with music is tight, accurate and Impactful. When I go back and forth with using the Pure Direct mode on my receiver (No sub output) and the other modes, Straight or Dolby surround the difference is clearly heard. One thing I wanted to point out is that for movies is not going to shake the house, there are some settings on the back you can adjust that makes movies sound great as well. The first thing is, change the damping from "high" to "Low" and turn the rumble filter off, for more output and it does just fine with movies too. But if you really want to rock the house for movies you probably want dual F12s or get a bigger more powerful sub. But again, great review. And I love my F12!
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын

@@firebladeclements Ah! I see, I would try whichever brand you feel an affinity towards in the looks department or cost. Just found your amazing channel - brilliant! Great reviews on subwoofers. I've narrowed my search to Rythmik and am unsure whether to choose dual L12s or F12s. I have a small listening room (13.5' x 12.5' x 8.25') running a Hegel H360's 420 watts (4ohm) into a pair of Magnepan .7s. In adding a subwoofer, it has been frequently recommended that given the small space I should add a pair in 'opposing corner' configuration. I love the non-colored sound of this setup but when listening to everything from organ to orchestra, to jazz quartets, to Weather Report, to Zappa, I miss the bass extension I used to get with my Klipsch La Scallas. I'm told that two L12s will sound better than one F12. After watching your review of both of these Rythmiks, I'm torn. My question is whether in your opinion it is worth nearly double the price to go with two F12s. As you described the performance of different subwoofer models, my preference would be to have them 'disappear' sonically. I trust your honest and insightful reviews and would appreciate your thoughts.
@NemoPropaganda11 ай бұрын
F12 for sure! The L12 is excellent but it has a warmer sound where the F12SE is much tighter & quicker with it's transients. Warm subs can sound a smidgen slower, note that sounding slow doesn't mean it's actually slow. The L12 still has very good transients and is a top tier SQ sub for the money but the F12 is what you want for maggies or a T9X if the F12 is too large.

Disappearing and sounding like a bass guitar is actually in the room is what I'm talking about. The "dicohotomy" between movies and music becomes moot when most of the movies you watch have high-quaity/orchestra soundtracks. And even though explosion-fest movies aren't my first choice, when the director's made an effort to make, say, a train going by into a visceral experience (yeah, I mean Snowpiercer), I still don't wanna miss out on that. Totally shopping in the smaller-sub range, though, as my theater room's 11.5 deep x 14 wide x 8 and is in a townhouse (which is decently sound-isolated from the neighbors but I'm not trying to push my luck, hah!) ... Thanks for the Rythmik recommendation earlier!
@NemoPropaganda3 ай бұрын
100% agree but it's unlikely we'll be so intimately familiar with a 2 hour movie as we can be with a 3 minute song so many theater guys just focus on output. But you are correct in that there is a lot of bass fidelity in movies these days and for those who care about that Rythmik is a great option, if you want something on the smaller side for theater and you care about bass fidelity overall a pair of F12's are a damn fine option.
@mesonto3 жыл бұрын
It's a freakishly amazing sub isn't it? I'll tell you that these are the subs that make the REL woofer boxes inconsequential. (I say this because unless you go up to an S812, it won't have any base anyway... REL make great wofers but practically non-existent subwoofers) I was amazed when I first heard them too. But a pair of these working with your main left and rights does all your music justice. And to be fair I realize they're not necessarily the best speakers for movies, even two of them, but sound-wise they're better than any SVS, they just won't make your hair on your arms stand up straight. Regardless no one ever talks about these speakers and I've heard most of the high end musical subwoofers and bought a pair of these. Well if they're good enough for Salk, they must have something very right about them. Nice to hear a review of them, thank you!
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
Hey James! Yeah I agree you'd have to get into the S812 from REL to compete with these, they have the Predator 1508 but the whole HT series as good as it is can't match these in tonal richness and transient detail. And then the T series is possibly the most misunderstood subwoofer REL or anybody has ever made, it's design intention is more speaker reinforcement and not low frequency extension. I ended up jamming the pair in the corners and gained back some of that initial attack I was missing, I'm running them maybe 1db too hot for most peoples taste but to me it's perfect now!

ahaha thank you, I'm just hear to help us all stop obsessing and get back to having fun with the hobby. So do keep in mind the F12 can be used for HT but it's intended purpose is music first systems so it's not going to have the headroom of their theater models but as long as you're not trying to recreate reference levels in a medium to larger room it could be okay. The FVX12 will give you better output in a theater environment or the E15 but in my smaller room a single F12 is plenty for movies or theater duty. My room is 12x10 with 9ft ceilings.

If you have the budget for the F12 its worth its higher asking price. F12 has SQ that's more on par with T9X while oferring loads more extension. As far as sealed 12's go the Rythmik F12 is one of the best. The 1205 V2 is right up there with it but its just ever so slightly behind it and that's reflected in its lower asking price so no harm no foul. For those who find the F12 too expensive or not available in their region 1205 v2 is the easy choice. For those who can afford F12's slightly higher price and live in a region where its available will be rewarded with its world class fidelity paired with outstanding extension.

Great review brother!. Thinking about 2 of these for home theater and music use. Do you think a pair of F12's will give that dynamic punch were I'm currently using JL E110s?
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
Dynamic punch as in the "wow" experience when the bass kicks, No. The F12 doesn't do that, it's wow experience comes more from how well it integrates which allows the experience of simply sitting back and listening to music without feeling the need to analyze or listen for the bass, it's just there as if it's coming from the speakers themselves. Like this is a subwoofer when integrated properly at times you may think it's off until a bass heavy passage comes and then still you only know it's on because you know logically your speakers can't produce those frequencies but it still doesn't feel like the bass is coming from a separate place, it's just part of the sound experience. Some people will love that but I think some people will miss that "wow" dynamic slam, I guess you can say this is a great subwoofer for people who generally like bass but don't like subwoofers lol.

I think it'll be pefect! That's a little bigger than my room and I'm able to accomodate single subs as large as 15" easily. Dual subs is where small rooms start to get complicated as you can overload the room very quickly but your room is on the low side of medium so you should be fine.
@wenzhaochewng21583 жыл бұрын
Hi! Not sure if you are able to advise - I have a REL HT1205 for home theatre. However, I am planning to add an integrated stereo amp for 2 channel music. As the REL HT1205 only has single LFE inputs, I will probably need to get another sub for music. I am considering getting the Rythmik F12 for my 2 Channel music. However, as the Rythmik has dual inputs, I'm also planning to plug it into my AVR. Might as well use it since its there, and HT could always do with more output. My question is, do you think the REL HT1205 and the Rythmik F12 could combine well enough for HT?
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
Hi Wen! The simple answer is YES! I actually used them in a stereo pair (1 f12 and 1 1205) and while I generally don't recommend mixing brands the 1205 and F12 did indeed play very well together and sound very good :). Do keep in mind the F12 can blend a lot higher up so you'll want to keep the cross over low on both subs for the best blending, something like 55hz and below but feel free to experiment, it could be a little different in your room. Do keep in mind the F12 has a few amplifier options, make sure to call rythmik first to make sure you pick the right one for your needs.

@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
@@leonthebum 15" is just a little too large for my room so unless I get sent one as a review sample I won't ever buy a sub that big for review :( My guess is it's still plenty musical. Reason being a lot of people think a larger cone will be slow and sloppy, well yes it will be if it's cheaply made, flexible, and poorly designed. The Rythmik metal cone drivers are extremely stiff and a 15" will not have to move in and out as much to make the same amount of bass so in some ways and at certain volumes it may be more musical if not just as much. A lot of people say 8" sounds tight and quick, yeah at low volumes. Once you crank an 8" and it has to hit it's XMAX to deliver bass they are among the sloppiest sounding subs. Essentially there are no iron clad rules in this hobby. If you feel more of an affinity towards the E15, go that route, trust your heart! You have a 30 return window either way :).

Hey David, one more thing, I talked to Rythmik and they suggested choosing the size based on where you need to integrate. Hey Eddie, you've narrowed down your candidates to the two best SQ focused subwoofers in the world, at this point the question is like asking if which is better between ferrari or lamborghini, both are fantastic, similar, and different at the same time. Both subwoofer companies make subwoofers that have outstanding transient response, bass fidelity, and sound exceptional with music. I have not heard the S510 so I cannot comment on that one specifically but if your room is on the larger side perhaps the F12 is a better choice or if your room is more small to medium and you don't want a bigger sub the T9X is a great option. You don't have to worry about how each one sounds as they're both fantastic, instead I suggest you choose based on how they will look and fit in the room. If you are only getting 1 sub and not a pair it is perhaps worth keeping in mind a single 12" will extend lower and play louder than a single 10" so again if the room is larger or you're a 100+dB listener I'd certainly inch towards the larger one.

Hi Simon, your system looks awesome, okay so here we go: Comparison Sub’s: Kef KC62- awesome sub, unless you require something so small most of your money is going to how small it is, but it does sound amazing! Try and audition one if you can. It integrates very well and has excellent SQ, not as good as the F12 but still very good. Kef KF92- Never heard it. I've heard it's incredibly powerful though. Rel Serie T/7x- vs the Rythmik F12SE, well we're talking about the 2 best SQ companies for subwoofers. Both are awesome but we're talking about an 8" vs a 12" so the larger rythmik will have more output, extension, and deep bass especially at the limit. I have both the F12SE and T7X pair in my room. My advice is if you can only have 1 sub go for the F12, if you will do a pair the 7X will be killer and they are intentionally designed to use high-level. Rel Serie S/510- Never heard it. I'm sure it's amazing though. I don't have any other recommendations besides perhaps the T9X.

@@NemoPropaganda Thanks very much for your time / advice. I'll initially get a demo' of the Kef KC62 and then the Rel T7X as my HiFi dealer stocks both. If going for just one, of the Rythmik F12SE and the Rel T/7X which would be the better 'overall' in regards to 'sound' quality / intergration (being as audibly invisible as possible)? Thanks again... all the best, Simon.

@@NemoPropaganda P.S: My listening levels (going by what me amp' display shows) are mostly between 69 - 80db, although I think with the little bit of gain from the Qutest DAC that could be 2 - 3db more.

@@sinbad64 They are both equal in that regard. It'll just come down to how much extension and output you need. The Rythmik being larger has a lot more extension and output. But if you don't need all that extra output nor listen to music that has that super low bass then you might as well save some cash and go for the 7X.

THANK YOU! Been waiting on this one! So my question is this... While the F12 won't have the same slam and impact as the SVS SB300(which I own two of), in your opinion does it still do justice to bass heavy music? I listen to about 85% hip-hop music and I'm considering these for my "music only" system I'm currently making purchases for. We chatted in the past before you received the F12's and I'd told you how I really love the SB3000's in my living room setup for mixed usage, but I felt like they maybe weren't perfect in terms of blending and speaker integration. I'm really wanting to improve that in this system while still keeping the price around that $1k mark. Maybe I just need to work things out more through SVS's PEQ, but the speaker level connections available from Rythmik seem like a possibly better method to integrate? Anyhow, I know your personal opinion is all you can provide, but I'd be interested in hearing it!
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph, I remember our chat :) so the speaker level input is actually not the preferred method as it adds an extra link in the chain and Rythmik prefers people do not use that option unless it is there only choice (like not having pre-outs). So with duals I was able to regain the slam I was missing, at least enough of it to be satisfactory but by direct comparison switching back to a non-servo sub the initial attack was still less. A great example is Put On by Young Jeezy, the first bass note in the intro is infrasonic so you can't really hear it but the second and third bass note come on strong AF! The F12 plays these notes like a gentleman, clean and clear with good amplitude and transient detail and my SB3000 played those notes like a heavy weight boxer landing a right cross. The question becomes do you value that or the maximum integration more? I'd recommend you use different subwoofers in your music system no matter what just because it's more fun that way :D but I think If I listened to hip-hop mostly I honestly might get something like the FVX12 instead but I haven't heard that thing yet but I do plan to soon hopefully!

Nemo Thoughts on dual pairing with your Buchardt S400?
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, so dual F12 was one of the better pairings I've had with the S400. In my room the S400 are incredibly strong down to 30hz and the F12SE lets you adjust the frequency cutoff as low as 25hz with a 24db slope so while that may sound extreme that's how I set them up and they did sound fantastic. You have to be careful with gain at that point though as you don't realize how much sub 30hz bass you're adding until it you hear a track that has information that low and then you're like "oh shit" so it took some fiddling to get the gain correct but yes I think it's a good pairing!

Excellent review! Quick question for you I’m debating 2 rythmik f18s they are sealed so I’m wondering would they be good for theater or would the ported version be better ? I’m leaning to the sealed because I’m not a fan of port noise . Thanks Chris
@NemoPropaganda3 жыл бұрын
The F18 is a theater first model so a pair should be plenty good, the youtuber SpareChange kzbin.infovideos will be reviewing a pair of F18 in the near future so keep an eye out for that. As far as vs the FV18 being the ported model it will have significantly more maximum output and rumble as all ported subwoofers do. As far as port noise I don't think you'll be pushing these to such a limit but It might be a good idea to reach out to Rythmik and get their opinion on that.

@@chrisrichardson958 A pair of F18 in that room would be plenty good :) And per Rythmik they have about the same output as a ported 15". As far as what will sound best it's really a personal choice. Ported always gives you more rumble down low for infrasonic bass if all other things are equal and I take an approach of aesthetics first so you may not find my personal opinion the most valuable but in a room that size I would do dual F15HP simply because I think it will look better :D

I was kind of interested in these subs but not now. After calling and leaving a message in Texas , got a call back. He said how many watts is your tube amplifier? I said 35 watt premaluna. He said sorry, you have to have 60 or 80 Watts. Huh ? For a signal? Call me ignorant. Those expensive Rel subs I had Worked with just a signal from my amplifier. So did my pair of SVS subs , so does my Emotiva sub.
@NemoPropaganda2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how that's bad service? Sometimes while unfortunate a manufacturer must say when a product is incompatible with their gear. I respect them for being straight up with you and not wasting your time with a "maybe it will work" type answer. Did you try asking them why 35w would not be sufficient?
@jerryjohnson46252 жыл бұрын
I just didn't know a powered subwoofer had to have 60 or 80 Watts of power from my amplifier. I thought subwoofers just received a signal from your amplifier. I've never heard anyone mention in any of the reviews that you need a minimum of 60 watts on your amplifier to make this Sub work. He offered no explanation and I wasn't really wanting one. It saved me a lot of money. My Emotiva sounds great. Happy listening.

Nemo, pair of these or pair of REL T9 for music
@NemoPropaganda2 жыл бұрын
The F12 is larger and far more capable as a subwoofer overall. The F12 can extend substantially lower and play much louder. As far as the sound difference the biggest difference is this: The T9X has warmer tone to it that gives a sense or richness to the sound while the F12 is the more accurate sound. Both have excellent fidelity, nuance detail, great handeling of delicate passages, and incredible speed. The F12 is the better subwoofer however some users may prefer the warmer sound of the T9X. Personally I own both a pair of REL T7X and a Rythmik F12 and I still can't decide which setup I like more so when I tell you they are both incredibly good I really mean it.
