You do know this story is happening some 88 days after the merging happened, right? BP had time to deal with. And no, you don't have to start "everyone meeting eveyone" to be a "competent" story. Most people who bought the game have been playing MvC for some 20 years, so they just want to see the characters team up and do cool stuff together. We don't need to go through all the "Hello, I'm Ryu. Tell me more about these Avengers" because then you'd have to wait for the moments like this Ryu/Hulk combo. MK X throws you into a big battle Shinnok's demons at the start and later doesn't give any scenes of Cassie meeting Takeda for the first time either.

We as the viewers know the characters, but to suddenly hear things like "Valkanda" and "Xgard" just suddenly be said to be a thing with not context, story of emotional explanation is plain and simple bad storytelling. The fact that your saying people played MvC for years now does not recitfy this as again there is no context for all of this to be accepted. MKX had an established story before shinnoks invasion and clear cut reason why everything was happening and what led up to that point. MVC:I doesn't. And for the record, as someone who's played Mvc for a while now, its a little insulting to have it just assumed that people like me wouldn't enjoy an actual story with development between the character and only need to the combat to be satisfied.

@@CalciumChief This is a defensible stance. But, it would be fun for the characters to officially "meet" each-other in story. One of the highlights of Dragon Ball FighterZ was seeing characters like Cell and Frieza who have never met interact. It was in fact one of the very few draws it's story mode had. Marvel vs Capcom would have benefited from having similar interactions. Lean on their histories and find parallels between the various characters in order to create interesting angles for conversation. Marvel vs Capcom is dry as hell, with such highlights as "hey Arthur" and "hey Thor". The Ryu vs Hulk moment had potential, just to use one example. Ryu attempting to teach Hulk/Banner mental discipline would have been a decent and potentially funny interaction.

I find it so strange that in the amount of times Capcom put Ryu and Chun-Li next to each other or close to one another, they almost *never* interact. They were both the poster team for SFxT, they are both used in a lot of posters and promo material, they are currently both the faces of SF5 Champion edition (with Gill) but the legit only times i see them even look at each other was in SF5 after Ryu defeated Necalli, when he straight up „Hadouken‘d“ her while she carried a child and in the SF Alpha movie, and that‘s it.

"I was part of a research mission" this wasn't that much awkward, then, "studying anomalies caused by convergence of our two universes." this really sounds like Ryu's doing research himself. people talked about this years before and still I think that's really strange line. the writer only needed to add two or three words like, "I was part of a research mission, protecting those scientists studying anomalies caused by convergence of our two universes." and I presume that's what he was tried to mean for. or maybe not, because everyone in marvel knows science. probably even kid spiderman can explain what exactly general relativity and super string theory are. and this version of Ryu is probably having degree of archaeology for ancient Hado civilization or something, which trained and used Shoto masters in war to build and expand the largest empire in mysterious unknown field of human history. it's marvel, probably some unexplained crazy backstory would be in there hidden.

Max says exaclty what I've been saying for years, it has the bone structure for a decent story with awesome moments, but the execution for like 80 to 90% of the time is either wonky or just bad. And the ingame cutscenes before and after the fights look pretty dope tbh.

Bruh the writing in this game was so weird and I only put it together upon a replay… the script was written by a group of writers that know and love Marvel characters, but DID NOT know anything about Capcom characters. 🤦‍♂️

2:37 Those movements that Ryu is doing is very Tokusatsu like. But with Toku it makes since because those characters are completely masked, they need those loud body movements in order to convey emotion. But with this game the characters are mostly unmasked and you can see their face so when they try to do loud and over the top body movements it just look awkward.

Here's a cool fact about the Dah'ren Mohran fight in MVCI: In MH4/4U, it's a 2-part hunt where in the first half, you would damage Dah'ren with your weapons and equipment on a "sandskiff", then in the second half, you would take it down with everything you have in the same sandskiff. Though Dah'ren would never attack the city gates in the original game, the particular defense battle in MVCI harkens back in the old MH games against Lao Shan Lung/Shen Gaoren where you ACTUALLY defend the gates.

Ironically, literally that is Marvel vs Capcom, the first game had characters that nobody knew at this point in CAPCOM side, many didn't know where Morrigan belongs, the 2 has Marrow a very irrelevant character, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a game honestly with a totally horrible look I was always surprised how people respect it so much because it has several flaws it has a large roster yes but practically many don't use them and repeat the same characters and really 2 Wolverines that was ridiculous, they reused sprites from other games that look really bad together because of the very clear difference between them It seems just an official mugen, an interesting thing the Marvel roster was what was relevant to Marvel at that time, the 90s series like X-men or Spider-man even used the voices of that series, now in Marvel the important thing It's the movies, it's true that there should have been more characters, but people criticize things that CAPCOM did before in these games.

This whole thing is like a puppet show on drugs. Or a manga/anime to live action adaptation _turned into_ a puppet show on drugs. You can make a realistic character model look cool in an anime/comic book aesthetic, like Jill Valentine in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but it *seriously* doesn't work the other way around.

I will never understand the so obvious connections between Resident Evil characters. If you’re going to bring Chris back for another MvC, bring Wesker back, not Nemesis. Sure, you could’ve had him to fill up your quota of big bodies, but then being the OG Jill back from MvC2 if you’re bringing back Nemesis. Having Chris and Nemesis in the same game only kinda works since Nemesis is a Tyrant, even though they’ve never crossed in canon.
