One thing that bugged some people when they saw my first part of the Doing Nothing Challenge Run is that I cheated a bit while doing Ryuji's Awakening while on Merciless. As of now, I just got P5R at a discount on Steam (mostly to try out the DLC which I refuse to buy on the PS4), and I played everything on Hard by doing nothing up to this point. I used the save and reload method to grind Joker and Morgana an extra level ahead without using the medicine. (Joker at lvl 5 and Morgana at lvl 4) and I wanted to see if the party could defeat the enemies in Ryuji's awakening under the doing nothing rules where Ryuji and Morgana are on Act Freely while Joker only guards. And I'm happy to say, not only do we not need the triple damage buff to get pass the bicorns, but it only took two attempts to beat these enemies without Joker while on Hard. This is not a hint for another challenge run, this is more or less just to put people's complaint at rest who said I cheated in that fight. Honestly? Major props to you for doing any part of this run ever again. I’m just impressed you can still enjoy this game after that run!

I enjoy it when I can actually do something. After this fight, I put everyone back on direct commands and using Joker

I think the sort of people who make these complaints deserve to be upset. But mad props to you for getting this done regardless, sometimes no amount of strategy can replace levelling up!

hah, this really puts into perspective how important levels are alongside strategy. sometimes I do wish they weren't as impactful, it's a bit stupid how you can overcome most of the game just by levelling up a bit more than intended(which isn't even that difficult in any of the games)

That's basically a core issue with any rpg with a lving system most solutions to a hard fight is to just lv rather then change strategy its impossible to fix unless dev's lock max lv to specific amounts thou out the main story which if theres a game that does that please anyone let me know

@@djmack6474 I agree, to some extent. Yes, a fight in any RPG with a levelling system does become inherently easier by levelling up, however how much(and if it even does) is completely in the developer's hands. You might have misunderstood my point, so let me reiterate. I don't *necessarily* mind if levelling up is the easy way out, however I would prefer if it was also possible to get out of a hard fight with just strategy and barely any level ups. Even in the megaten franchise, 99% of fights are winnable(if not cheesable) at any level if you come up with the right strats. Hell, I'm sure you've seen low level runs. Sure, low levels screw you over, but you can also definitely tell them to fuck off. That's also where I don't necessarily like Persona's style: by only being able to customize your main character(sure, you can touch upon your party members but barely), you lose a lot of the variety you need for stuff like this. Nothing is stopping you in mainline from grinding for a party that repels 90% of the enemy's attacks, not to mention you can grind for them without getting XP with some more convoluted ways(either DLC abusing or talking skills in 3/4, for instance). I don't mean to downtalk persona though, I definitely felt like P3 was a lot closer to the formula I like. It still didn't have that same variety, but I felt the enemies gave you a lot more opportunities to choose less than 4 party members due to their weaknesses. For other games, I'm not sure. Off the top of my head, Xenoblade 3 feels a lot like a stat check. XC2 I haven't played in a while, though I'm fairly sure it follows a lot of my preferences. Finally, XC1 is the middle ground. Levelling up makes the fight go from tough, to average and pitifully easy. Going down in levels however severely punishes you(10% accuracy on hits levels of punishment). A casual player is definitely not going to overcome this, but it's absolutely possible given enough game knowledge(though not intended, there are opportunities to softlock).

@@sasaworker6417 I completely understand there's always player choice to not just level grind I'm pretty sure a lot of RPGs can be done and play perfectly fine without any grinding even on the higher difficulties if you play it smart it's just certain things when you're putting optional challenges on yourself such as this video that the developers did not intend that's out of their control grinding becomes more necessary the more optional challenges you put on yourself besides low level challenge
@sasaworker64172 жыл бұрын
@@djmack6474 I wasn't talking about this challenge in particular. I'm talking about the general stat-check that the personas tend to come down to a lot of the time, even with great strategy. There isn't a lot you can do to keep your teammates alive before the fight, and solo'ing is tough as is. Meanwhile, to follow along my comparison, in mainline you are at least able to actually prepare specialized teammates. Hell, look at any kind of tough fight. Even against almighty-spamming enemies, you can spam life bonus/surge for that extra bit of max HP. That's how I beat 4A's final boss - life bonus/surge on all my demons, mediarama/high heal pleroma/energy drain on all a handful of healer demons.

That would be fixable if they tweaked the EXP gains per level difference, up to a point you'd get virtually no EXP until you get nothing at all. So say all normal shadows in a palace would be lvl 10-20, the red shadows lvl 25 and you limit EXP gains up to a 5 lvl difference so the max you could get is lvl 30. Then you make the boss something like lvl 27 and then you wouldn't be able to just stat-check the boss
