It's almost always beneficial to take the Link suit. Even in a troll level. Because in a typical scenario, if you're boned, you can still bomb yourself. The only way I can imagine a Link power up messing with you is if you break a block that isn't supposed to be broken because you're essentially "big Mario".

There was one troll level where the whole thing was built around being Link and the twist was you had to avoid being Link to beat it, because troll creators can build all sorts of powerup checkers. Or they could put the Link powerup somewhere that kills you if you go for it, of course.
