One other thing to comment on this is I placed it inside my newest computer build for a client with the Z490 Chipset and Core i7 10700k processor. So far at idle, temps were hovering at around 40 c. I didn’t do a Cinebench Test, but one can assume that if it’s at 40 c idle, temps will be around 75 c- 80 c when at max gaming. Now of course he has a RTX 2060 in the rig I built for him, but for his needs, it will be just fine.

brogon btw I’ve done over 20 or so builds, and out of them none failed. I did a upgrade recently with a hyper 212evo on a friends old pc he gave me, and by me over tightening it caused the pins in the motherboard to bend deeming it no good. I will have a replacement one in order soon as it was an 8 year old Asus P8B75V LGA 1155 motherboard. It won’t break as long as you’re not over tightening the screws into the motherboard.

So glad I found this video honestly. I built my first pc about 3 months ago, friends picked out the parts for me and assured me that the newer wraith cooler was actually decent for a stock cooler and I wouldn't need to buy a new one. I checked temperatures often at first but got really lax and then checked it a few days ago and it hit a whopping 100c while I was gaming :( I kept searching on Google and it seems nobody else had temps this high even after changing the thermal paste it went right back up to 99 playing a game... Just watching this it's hovering around 60-70c lol undoubtedly ordering a new cooler right now appreciate the video!

For my first build, I decided (at first) that I did not want to invest the extra money in a separate heatsink for my R5 3600. When I first got to the BIOS (luckily on my first try), the CPU temp was in the 50C range (albeit, my room has poor ventilation so that also attributes to the higher temps). I thought that this was strange and was worried that I did something wrong in my installation of the stock cooler. After watching this video, I decided to get the Hyper 212 Black edition as I have a black-themed build. Went from 45-55C in idle to about 35-45C even while having chrome tab open, and hitting similar temps in Minecraft on very high settings with youtube open watching videos (about a 5C increase on Ryzen master). I ran Cinebench r20 with the stock cooler and was hitting up to 85C!!!! After installing the new cooler, I hit about 71C max on r20 and even got a slightly better score (40 point increase). Even if you do not plan on overclocking (I am not currently), it is definitely worth upgrading from the stock Wraith Stealth cooler. With that being said, this cooler definitely gives me the ability to overclock, which I like. I would definitely recommend this CPU cooler. Even if you do not want to go with cooler master, I would definitely recommend upgrading the cooler in some form (whether you go with a heatsink or AIO is up to you of course). Great video btw!

Yeah core performance boost will apply extra power to the chip to allow it to boost higher however doesn’t work well if the cooling solution can’t handle the extra heat. i've been on blue team for quite a long time, but after hearing so much praise to amd, i decided to build a rig with ryzen 5 3600, and i can't believe how terrible the temps are, and yes i bought this cooler master 212 red led, and cinebench r20 with 28º room temp, the cpu reaches 80º, i still believe this is a lot for a rig like mine, even my laptop with an intel i5 reaches 78º, the problem is, this is not giving me space to overclock the cpu at all
@PCTechHustle

Sure 80c is where I would say is starting to be borderline high but also know Cinebench r20 is also a benchmarking tool designed to heavily stress your components. I’d say if your normal operational temps are lower which I would expect then you are more than fine.

People forget that the stock cooler have pre-installed thermal paste and that seems to be the problem for too much overheating. So if you're not looking to overclock to much. Remove the pre-installed thermal paste and apply another one The Correct way
@PCTechHustle
@PCTechHustle 3 жыл бұрын
The stock paste is plenty fine really. The cooler itself just isn’t adequate. Sure you might see like 1-2c difference with a top of the line paste but it isn’t the root cause of overheating

Hmm. Just built my R3600 system a few days ago, runs between 45-55c idle(depending on ambient temp) and about 72-75c during 1 hour+ Warzone sessions. Occasionally hits 81c for a second or two, then drops back to the 70ish average. Stock cooler, stock paste. No issues whatsoever. Still plan on getting an aftermarket cooler, but it's surprising to see so many users experiencing heat issues. If it's seated correctly you shouldn't be experiencing thermal shut downs.
@PCTechHustle
@PCTechHustle 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree but I did remount mine multiple times. Also obviously not my first rodeo with PC building. I wonder if there is a bit of manufacturing defects causing some of this because as you can see I wasn’t the only person with the problem.
@zach7384
@zach7384 3 жыл бұрын
@@PCTechHustle Definitely wasn't implying you don't know what you're doing, I'd imagine you're more familiar than I am. Yes, many people having the same problem surprised me, high temps sure, but overheating & shutdowns being so common is definitely odd. I heard somewhere there's 2 versions of the 3600, the first one, and a revision? Maybe the newer one is more stable? If that's not the case, possibly manufacture defects like you mentioned. If my cpu was overheating out of the box with the stock cooler I'd get it swapped out honestly.

@PCTechHustle

Well that effectively is indeed the problem. Motherboard manufacturers and AMD requesting too much voltage as a default which results in a ton of unnecessary heat. I was able to get temps under control with under-volting however that shouldn’t be looked as a solution in my opinion. Also if the client were to ever lose those settings from bios in the future they would have the problem all over again. Quite simply AMD should just not include the wraith stealth with the 3600. I’d imagine someone who knows little about this problem could end up RMAing their CPU thinking the problem is there.

Great video. I love your style - nice and calm, no extra info. Maybe you (or anyone here) can help me with some insight... I want a very very quiet pc. I've built them for years, but I'm really dismayed. I had crazy heat problems with the R5 3600 + Gigabyte Vision D. And the cpu constantly turbo' boosts itself inappropriately. First, stock cooler has a persistent whine at all speeds. (Silent case fans = really stands out.) I found out that's typical, no defect. So I realize I need another cooler. But this turbo boosting at idle is driving me nuts! Heat spikes when it does this. Win 10, no programs open...turbo up, turbo down, turbo up, turbo down...Start Edge browser (or most any program) ...BRRRRRRRFFFFF! Fans go wild as it turbos. Then they clock down. :( I assumed heat was the problem (from inefficient cooling.) Tried to remedy in several ways: 1) Got new case. Threw out BeQuiet Pure Base 600 (heat trap.) Moved to Phantek Pro M (Glass.) Added noctua case fans. No dice. 2) Got a water cooler. (Cooler Master MasterLiquid LC240E RGB.) No dice! To my dismay - it didn't cool it any better than the stock cooler. I found out when I started up Prime 95 - and went FULL PANIK - as it instantly went to 95 degrees (just like your video!) On water! (Returned it eventually.) 3) Got a 2nd Ryzen 3600 to test - thinking it was a bad CPU. No difference. Water, or stock air. So I'm back on stock air. 4) Disabled turbo in BIOS. I no longer have the constant, inappropriate turbo boost and annoying fan up, fan down... But now I have no turbo! Just what is going on? :( I've tried everything suggested on forums, short of reducing cpu voltage. I have the Ryzen 5 power profile...it still turbo's itself and computer sounds like an airplane if I enable it. Is there a reason the Ryzen 5 3600 does this?
@PCTechHustle
@PCTechHustle 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly your best bet sounds like just finding the correct voltage to support the boosted clock speeds (you can probably go a notch or so higher) and hard set everything so it’s not ramping up / down. Then go into your fan profiles in the bios and only trigger the fans to ramp with temperature not load or boost.

Most here don't need a better cooler. Get your voltages in check and you are good to go. I had a Noctua NH-D15 initially on a 3700X @ 3900ghz before I realized what the real culprit was. I now run the factory Prism cooler and it does a great job without the bulk/clutter of a behemoth cooler like the Noctua. In most cases these aftermarket coolers are just a bandaide compensating for an unaddressed problem.

The problem here is stock hardware should not = overheating. So either motherboard manufacturers need to chill on the power deliver or disable certain functions by default. Most average consumers don’t know how to tune things in bios to address the problem.

All 3000 series cards come with turbo boost already on thats why the temps are so high. To lower your temps by up to 20°C you need to lower the frequency to 40.00 and the processor voltage in the bios by either 0.0500 or 0.02500. This helped me. Sorry so late people should know how to do this

However playing at a high temperature 24/7 shortens the lifespan of a processor so you have to 'underVolt' it as the default frequency is set to its turbo clock at 4.2Ghz. Now my idle temps are 30-35° and under 75% load it hits 55° but AMD should have addressed this issue and gave instructions on how to fix this 👍

The wraith spire and wraith prism should be pretty good out of the box. In my experience though if you are using a wraith stealth you may have to disable AMD cool and quiet in the Bios
@PCTechHustle
@PCTechHustle 3 жыл бұрын
Cool and quiet by design is supposed to keep things COOL. The function specifically reduces clock speeds and voltage while under low CPU utilization. Disabling it will cause MORE heat. However Where people like disable it is if they have a high heat capacity cooler and want to stabilize clock speeds from fluctuating due to this feature. The likely issue that may be occurring here is the motherboard is supplying too much power for the stock cooler thus my temperature issues. With that said though, I’ll stand my ground by saying AMD really should not ship the 3600s with stock coolers because there is a high chance someone will also pair that CPU with a high end motherboard and run into what I am seeing here.

I turned on Eco Mode. I also have the older stock copper bottom downdraft cooler with Artic MX4 paste. Max temps get to 60-65 degrees during gaming, and 75 running Cinebench. If you aren't overclocking or doing heavy workloads (and most games just don't count), downdraft coolers will work just fine, even with stock configuration. AMD pulled out the stops to try beat Intel with the Ryzen CPU, but power efficiency isn't what it could be with Ryzen at stock. It wastes alot of heat to hit high multicore performance, which is not really needed in most games. That's why Eco Mode is good to use in these scenarios. It's free on Ryzen motherboards, often with a BIOS update, you can either enable it as an option or dial in custom PPT, TDC, and EDC settings.

I had almost same problem my stock cooler for ryzen 3600 had it idling around 45c 52c using cinnabench it would sometimes peak at 92c installed the evo 212 be and just between 39c 41c and has not went above 71c. I feel it idles kinda hot still for ambient room temps being 80 to 88 f but very impressed. I also went into windows power settings and turned down max cpu usage from 100 pct or 99 pct

I enabled it after I got the heat issue resolved. Though, XMP has nothing to do with CPU heat / poor cooler performance.

You are talking about the “spire” cooler instead of the stealth as seen here. Thst cooler does a much better job and has typically only come with 1st gen and “x” series CPUs

You don’t need water cooling if you don’t want to go that route. If you want some better cooling that won’t break the bank the Hyper 212 is a good option!

not sure if i got lucky with my CPU or if i have really good airflow, but i also have the 3600 with the stock cooler and my idle temps are about 40 degrees C. When playing AAA titles like GTA, Warzone, Horizon zero dawn. My CPU usually stays around 60-65 with the occasional spike to 70. Everything in BIOS is set to default auto OC and i have ryzen balanced power plan. 3 intake fans and 1 exhaust fan
