@@El1988Che If you never tried a 3600 or 5600 you don't actually know. The game RUST would do 120FPS at HD using a VEGA 56 and RYZEN 3800. We know for a fact because this video proves it that the 1600 bottlenecks graphics cards, even modest ones. When it first came out Steve hated the RYZEN because it was so slow in games compared to the intel even though it was maybe twice as fast in Cinebench. He did tests to prove it. AMD have redeemed themselves with the CPU upgrades for AM4. An odd feature of the slow 1600 was that GTA5 actually ran better on AMD than intel. I agree with you, but to play devils advocate, is it really that big of a deal? I bet there are still many running a 9900K on a z390 board nearly 4 years later. That is still a very capable CPU. Take the 12th generation for example, if you have that platform, chances are well over 90% that bought that are not going to upgrade to Raptor Lake, or even the generation after that, where a new mobo would be needed. By the time a 12700K/12900K are in need of replacement, most will want a new board with new features to use. If I had snagged a 10900K back in the day, even as good as Alder Lake is I would not upgrade. Chances are for those that do buy top flagship Intel parts, the tend to stick with them for awhile I would think. Don't get me wrong I'm happy I can upgrade to a series 5000 CPU finally on my B350 board, but with Intel being as performant as it has been, going back to Kaby Lake, vs Ryzen, I just don't know that higher-end Intel users upgrade as much as we think. Hi Steve, with AM4 now approaching the end of the road, I and multiple other owners of several AM4 systems that have been playing around with upgrading and swapping CPUs in and out over the years, were wondering where do all the CPUs stand currently. There are so many options now from 1600, to 2600, 3400g, 3300x, 4750g, 3600, 3950x, 5500, 5600x, 5950x, 5800x3d. So many unique and different CPUs in one platform. Though it does get confusing. It deserves some sort of final valedictory gpu type benchmark with all of them on one graph just to know where they stand. What do you think?

In 2019 pre-pandemic I built a b450 system with the original Ryzen 1600 and overclocked it. Then later in 2021 I upgraded it to the 5600X. I should have waited and spent a little more initially to get the 2600 since the 3600 had just come out, then held off until the 5600x went down rather than paying full price. Regardless of my poor financial decisions though, the jump in performance was absolutely noticeable and well worth it. Glad I went with AM4's upgrade path.

Though most will not have issues, I experienced issues with X370 and a change from 1700 - 5900X with high VRM temps when CPU loaded (reasonable temps when normally loaded or loaded with lighter tasks) and 2 and 4 slot memory boot loop issues even at 2133Mhz; also tried 1866Mhz. I literally have to boot with one stick, set XMP to 3200, boot into windows, shutdown, add 2nd stick, and finally boot normally from then on. Each BIOS upgrade could reset that, and I need to repeat. Also, one 5xxx supported BIOS permitted 4x16GB sticks of 3200Mhz with this pattern, but the most recent BIOS now boot loops with 4 sticks. So, all is not perfect in the land of X370 and 5xxx, but it was great while it lasted when I could boot a 5900X with 64GB 3200 memory and be stable to run massive conversion tasks. Also, cannot down grade to the 64GB working BIOS due to downgrade limitations despite it being the same 5xxx supporting series. In case anyone read this far, ASRock X370 Killer A/C and Oloy 4x16GB CL16 memory.

This would've been even more interesting with a GPU from the same era or so... Say, an RX 580 or 590, or a GTX 1060 or 1070, since it would also be interesting to see if there's anything to gain, when upgrading either the GPU or the CPU, in terms of cost effectiveness. I doubt anybody in their right mind bought a 6950XT thinking "yeah my R5 1600 will hold up no problem", well, even with a 6600XT that would've been wishful thinking.

Given that the 6600XT is twice the performance of an RX 580, there's little gain just upgrading the CPU as you'll be constantly GPU limited. Finding out just where the CPU becomes the bottleneck with GPUs and game settings is data that's hard to find and you often have to extrapolate from relative performance of different GPUs and the resolution and settings you're gaming at. Given the 5600 is 44% faster on average with the 6600XT than the 1600 @ 1080p, then using the relative performance of GPUs @ 1080p, then the upgrade starts to make sense with a Vega 56 or better GPU given that the 6600XT is 47% faster than Vega 56 @ 1080p. With the 25 game data @ 1440p, the difference is 15% with the 6600XT, so you'd start to see benefits upgrading to a 5600 if you had a 2070/5700XT or better GPU. Of course individual game preferences will vary those guidelines.

This just validated my experiences so much. I went from a B450 board and a 1600 to a 5600x in 2020 and I was kinda stunned at the increases, even at 1440p.

Upgraded to 5600 from 2600 a couple of months ago and can confirm at least 50% boost in games , paired with a 1080. Overall very pleased with the result. Also a week later sold the 2600 for almost half the price of the new CPU, which was bough on a sale btw.

1:23 Steve do the pins in the CPU align correctly with the pads in the motherboard? I wonder a long time if is possible to solder the CPU(with its pins) directly on the motherboard.
@warrenskeen92032 жыл бұрын
Not possible and why would anyone want to do this? Laptops have e soldered chips but the sockets are totally different. It's not pads on the motherboard it's holes for the pins to plug into. Sorry but I see no upside apart from not being g able to change the CPU without a new motherboard?
@ianmoone82442 жыл бұрын
@@warrenskeen9203 if the pins align correctly I guess that its possible! I asked because I guess the balls on my socket in the second memory channel is cracked, if I met someone to solder the CPU in the motherboard to me I'll have no problems. I'm using just 1 memory stick, if I put another one I got blue screens. Can be a motherboard project problem but I guess I f***ed the CPU socket putting many pressure when when I improvised the AM3 clamp on a new(but without AM4 compatible mount mechanism), then with time I got blue screens... :( so I left to a 'technician' and he just make a f***ing ultrasonic wash. ¬¬ Then I'm cripple with just one memory stick... :( Some guy(with no need to be a 'technician') can take out the socket and solder the CPU to the motherboard with just a hot air station to solve my problem, because if the ball on the socket are cracked then this in causing the BSODs and I solve it, with the option to change the CPU in the future. If was LGA socket all the pins will broke! xD :(

I'm on a Ryzen 5 1600 machine with a GTX 1650 card. Just put in an order for a Ryzen 5 5600x and RTX 3050 today. My current machine is still running great and keeping up wonderfully. Building a separate rig and keeping my 1600 as a backup rather than upgrading.

I've been through B350, B450, and X570, a Ryzen 5 1600, 2700x, and 5900x... Each time I upgraded I either sold off my old hardware, gifted it, or used it for a spare computer. Couldn't be happier with the AM4 platform.

I like the vid, but it misses a SUPER IMPORTANT point. As boost clocks only applied to a single core on original Zen, a simple all core OC was a HUGE help and easy to do. My upgrade from 1600x on an all core 4.0 to a 2600x was actually a side to downgrade until it got alot of tweaking. This should've been covered here.

Started my first PC build with Pentium G4560 with a GTX 1050Ti (really budget oriented build back in 2017), got a R5 1600 with GTX 1070 in 2019, had to sell, bought R5 3400g with no DGPU due to inflated prices in 2020, had to sell, now proud owner of R5 5600 and RX 6600XT. I upgraded to the 1600af from the 2200g last year. I bought it used, and planned to sell my 2200g for about the same price (if I hadn't bent the pins while removing it 🤦♂️). As I didn't need the igpu, it was worth it. Looking back, I should have bought the 4500. A bit more expensive, but around 20% better. The 1600af is working really well though.
