Down to $380 on Newegg today so that's cool. Maybe it'll go lower. I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 2600. Nearly doubled my FPS with a 3070 at 3440x1440 in some games. Pushed the 1% lows up and removed all stuttering in others. Just make sure you have the cooling for it and maybe undervolt if you can (tends to increase performance because it can hold its core boosts without thermal throttling)

It depends are you gaming at 1080p? If so the 5800x3D with a good video card like a 6700XT is more than enough. Otherwise if you plan on gaming in 1440p you might want to go with AM5 to future proof. Or you could skip AM5 and wait for AM6 :). @@user-tn6jj4tf2z

@@overclock1993 Maybe YOU can in dollars but here, the prices aren't quite so friendly. I'm not bothered about AM4 having just been replaced - seeing as the 5800X3D is still a solid CPU. I don't generally like going for 1st iteration chips when it comes to a new socket. AM5 or Raptor Lake would still cost me a fair bit more money. I've gotten a top end computer that will last me 5-6 years easy. Can then see what the latest stuff is then and go all out again. AM4 isn't even dead yet.

5800X3D is the clear winner here if the purpose is purely for gaming (the biggest win for consumers who have already used AM4 platform). Its only downside is; it is a locked CPU. Meaning, you can't overclock it.

you can overclock it with the right motherboard benches shows it hitting 4.6-5ghz albeit if you use clock generator overclock you will reach gen 2 and gen 3 pcie speeds ..even the cpu is at 4.7-5 ghz thats the only downside

The lack of overclocking won't bug me too much if I get one tbh, because it's already packing some serious power behind it with great efficiency. Also I've had some problems with overclocks causing crashes so I just decided to forego it altogether. The boost clock will serve me just fine, especially if it's trading blows with a mighty 12900k and 7600X.

@@bramterhaar1781 I think the fact that your 5800X3D goes above 3.6 is already a good indication that you don't need a bios update to fix your problem because I remember there being an issue where un-updated bios would not allow 5800x3d's to go higher than 3.4ghz. As for your actual issue, sounds like it's boosting based on usage. I think to fix it what you need to do is use windows search and type in power plan then choose one of the high performance ones or Ultimate performance, then it'll run at boosted clock constantly if I'm not mistaken.
