So now that IPC and cache have been sorted out, the only thing that AMD needs to fix is bringing their new architectures in the iGPU

The bottleneck here is the memory bandwidth and not architecture. They will most likely go with RDNA2 with the Zen 4 APUs which can utilize the faster DDR5 chips so you can expect Desktop RX560 (R9 270X) Performance on the next gen APUs.

Which will be sad to watch because even with the most advanced process node for x86 in the world, PCIe 4 and GPU hogging so much die space, Xe Graphics doesn't completely blow Vega 8 out of the water. Switch to RNDA2 and AMD can be lazy with iGPU progress for another 2 to 3 years.

Now a 15 watt is enough to power billions of transistors Edit: somehow this comment section turns into a massive debate of physics, trolling and physics trolling. @CarlJohnson234 3 жыл бұрын
@@predabot__6778 I f you want more CUs go for R5 3400G (R3 3200G), these equipped with 11 CUs. Most of the time CU count does not matter, hence why 4xxx series (and 5xxx too) APUs are able to compete with previous ones albeit with lower CU count but with much higher clockspeed (and some minor tweaks) are able to outperform them in most instances. So it's 50/50, in some scenarios it matters, in some others not that much. On the other note, APUs are power and thermally restricted, so you cant just simply put more cores and increase clockspeed, as integrated graphics share power with cpu cores, so there's that. Also it's not linear scaling with CUs due memory bandwidth i mentioned before.

Nice review, AMD should be the one to go, for people complained about 5%-10% diference on ST in some tests on tiger lake, just remember that after your system is fully loaded with programs in background, drivers, this diference will simple dissappear.

I keep laptops for many years. An OLED screen, where the blue pixels have half the half-life of the other pixels, yellows relatively quickly. That is unacceptable to me. I hate that reviewers just started ignoring this deal-breaking flaw with OLED displays. Apart from that, I love the review. This is very interesting and a decent bump for AMD. The lack of an improved iGPU was disappointing.

I thought the whole reason they skipped from 3000 to 5000 on the desktop was to clean up the mess with last-gen cores in mobile parts sharing namespace with current gen desktop cores. And now they're going right back and mucking it up again at the first opportunity. Also disappointing that they STILL haven't updated to RDNA (1 or 2) on the mobile parts. I'm sure they're good cpus, but I can't help but feel they fumbled the ball a bit with this on.

While intel kept quad cores on desktop laptop sat on hyperthreaded dual cores for all the i-crap models. Only the high-end gaming laptops got quad-core i7s, and obviously no high-end gaming laptop used U-series dual-core. It was when Ryzen came that intel increased cores on laptops. That talk about Thunderbolt is so common in reviews but I never actually seen a port or device for it in my entire life. Starting to thing it's american thing. Isn't using standard USB for everything is more convenient and some of new type C provide enough speed and power for anything?

Thunderbolt is common on quality docking stations. Traveling staff usually have a docking station with desk keyboard/mouse/monitor(s) at their office. It is less common among private consumers. Unless they've worked somewhere that used this and thus consider it "standard equipment".
@blkspade23
@blkspade23 2 жыл бұрын
Its somewhat frustrating to keep hearing reviews mention it, because OEMs have the option to put it in AMD devices but don't. Intel has a certification process to use the term Thunderbolt(and logo), that would likely either charge too much for, or outright block in a lot of cases. Asrock has 1 officially certified AMD ITX motherboard, and other AMD desktop boards with it. Other board makers offer it, without certification. On the flip side, the majority of people don't actually use it when they have it. The most legitimate use is from native devices, which are niche uses like audio interfaces. Most of those people are using a Mac. Practically everyone else is fine with USB and only ever plug in a mouse and 1 storage device.
