Just got a new pair of Sync Gauges and figured i'd make a video showing how to sync the carbs on these old 2 stroke RZ's. Its pretty simple to do. It will work on a Yamaha Banshee too!! Just hook up the gauges and set the idle to the same vacuum on each gauge while running. Then twist the throttle a little, adjust the cables on either side, while running, and get the gauges to read the same!! Just make sure you have about 2-3mm of throttle free-play(adjust by throttle assembly), you want free-play so the slides in the carburetors land on the idle screws and not get held up from the cables being too tight, Also when you turn the handlebars the cables shouldn't tighten enough to raise the slides/idle up... Make sure your oil pump is set right too if you make any big adjustments!!
So you can adjust the slides manually without gauges, which is what we did before I filmed this video. You can get really close, I like to use hex wrenches (since there's different sizes) and use them as a feeler gauge.. At idle and while holding the throttle open slightly. You can see in the video that they weren't too bad, but if you're wanting them to be perfect you need a set of gauges.
There's a lot of crap gauges out there, ive seen some come with the needles all over the place(zero is at 10, other at -10 exc...), no valve to slow down the bouncing gauge to see an accurate reading. This one seems to be good with adjustable valves to slow the bouncing needles down so you can see what you're doing. They come with a bunch of threaded tubes you can screw one end into your carb and push the hoses on the barb end. Also extra O-Rings, hoses, case...
