S 3309 on

With 32 XG class coal wagons. S 3309 is crossing over Bullfinch Road / Timber Yard Road, just east of Collie townsite.

In a article, dated 25 October 2023. Worsley Alumina (owned by South 32). Stated, that they had just completed the conversion of the first of it's coal fired boilers to natural gas. Helping to reduce the operations, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In alumina production, boilers are essential for the generation of steam, which is used in the refining process. A second steam fired boiler conversion to gas, is planned for 2024.
Colllie based coal train operations from Ewington and Premier Coal Mines, to Worsley Alumina Refinery, at Hamilton siding consists of only one fleet in service. With just one S class loco required at Collie Depot.
Just a heads up.

​@8888transportpix Thank you. Yes, I've been searching up. Of how many steam boilers are at Worsley Alumina Refinery's plant. Hopefully be some years, before the coal tran operation ends.

@@westernaustraliatrainscene5689 There are 5 boilers, one converted already to gas, and the second conversion due during 2024. I guess that each conversion will reduce the amount of coal required.
