S&B Cold Air Intake for 2020-23 Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax 3.0L

Our cold air intake for the 2020-23 Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra 3.0L Duramax was engineered to minimize air restriction and flow better than stock. This kit comes with a fully enclosed airbox that protects the filter from dirt and keeps out engine heat.
The 2020-23 3.0L Duramax intake kit can be installed by connecting directly to the stock intake tube. For even better performance, S&B includes an additional intake tube to connect directly to the turbo to maximize airflow.

Fairly easy install. I would advise wrapping a rope around the tube where it connects to the back of the turbo and using that to pull the tube into place. Saved me so much time and I’m sure busted knuckles.

Holy crap, i saw this comment before installing and tried it, thank you! It saved me so much headache installing it. Id add make sure you put a slip knot into it to make it easy to get the rope out and lube up the inside of the rubber collar, maybe lithium grease, pull the rope and pull the left side into the turbo and push on the end of the right side. For anyone installing in the future.

I thought about doing that, because I have large hands and couldn’t get into the opening myself. A friend of mine helped me out. And he stood on the other end controlling the tube and I had to pull on it. Great advise though.

The hardest part of installation for me was getting the long tube with couplet onto the turbo. All I had to do was loosen the clamp on the couplet for the turbo and it fit right in.

The biggest thing that helped me was a nice little film of WD-40 silicone spray, popped right on the turbo. Also I did it by myself.

I have 2024 1500 3.0 High Country. The tube to turbo is virtually impossible to attach, not as easy as she makes it look. I worked on it for 3hours or more, there just isn’t enough room. I called S & B technical support, the technician was basically worthless. I reinstalled the stock tube very easily.

@@GendersonHernandez So, I only had the intake installed for a few months and then sold the truck (kept the intake, I plan on getting the 2022 Sierra in the Spring with the same engine). In those few months, I did notice an additional 1-2 mpg difference in fuel economy. Doesn’t add much sound to the turbo, in fact, you can only really hear the intake if you have all the windows down. As far as power….eh, not really. About the same but did notice a very SLIGHT increase in throttle response. Nothing major, just very slight. Hope that helps.

Hi! I had a shop install to the turbo. The filter life is disabled but every time I turn truck on I get a “check engine air filter system” no one knows how to fix that. Can you help???!!

There are 3 different things that I can refer you to which are 1. the video that you were watching 2. disconnect the battery for over 2 hours or over night so the computer can do a reset 3. go to the install instructions online and go step by step to make sure that it was done correctly. Please let me know if yo have any other questions.

Hi S&B, I am curious. Is there any DYNO documentation regarding HP and torque? I do not care about more noise. Also are there any documented MPG Gains with your CAI???? Otherwise why put it on? I don't care about looks. I care about the advantages if there are any.

The simple answer is that it depends on your vehicle. Improving the airflow to your engine has been shown to increase horsepower. That being said, we don't publish horsepower numbers because of the inaccurate and outlandish claims made by many of our competitors. Instead we test to the ISO 5011 Filtration Standard and publish the airflow, efficiency and capacity data on the product pages found on our website. This is the internationally accepted standard for testing filters and intake systems, so we can hold our competition accountable if they make an incorrect claim.

@@SBFilters Hi Katie, I know it depends on the vehicle. That is why I choose this video to question you. I am specifically looking for data for the 20-21 Silverado 3.0 Diesel. Before I plunk down several hundred dollars I want to know the advantages (if there are any). A few years back there was a popular company selling CAI's that when put on the dyno, it actually lost power. So that is my concern. Hopefully another viewer that sees this post that has done Dyno work on this will chime in. But until I see the published gains I will hold off on spending the $$$$$.

If this made more power I’m sure you would advertise it. DON’T buy from companies that won’t show you what your hard earned money goes to. Every performance part should come with Dyno results or Fuel economy results if that what their inferring. If the intake isn’t a restriction 51% increase in flow means nothing.

Exactly. The youtube channel Engineering Explained already did a video a couple of years ago with performance tests on cold air intakes, stock intakes, and another style. The stock intake almost always performs better than any upgrade to the air intake.

I got this intalled on my 2020 3.0 and after paying for it, it took over a month to ship i kept getting this excuse “manufacturing challenges” and on this video theres too many unnecessary steps for the install. Long story short not worth it! No noticeable power or sound. 👎 my gas nissan totan has an afe brand and it makes a noticeable increase in power and it roars at 4k rpms. This one is junk honestly no sound and for a diesel i was expecting more I guess.
