I recall Mike Israetel said somewhere that he injured his back once and that's why he squats with the arched back, because that makes him more safe and comfortable, and that he wouldn't suggest someone else to do what he does by default. I also remember him saying that he squats with arms like that because he's just way too jacked for his arms to fit normally, I actually think he says you should try to have your arms as close to your shoulders as your physique allows. Yet he gets high praise from you guys, so I suppose it's not hurting his style points much.

I also do the “hybrid high bar” squat, just moving the bar down my back very slightly massively improved my mechanics. Worth a try if you’re relatively tall for your class (you can see recent versus old examples on my channel, watch how much more forward I can keep my knees now).
@Steve-iu5pw3 жыл бұрын
When you guys talked about Ivan's squat, you mentioned his foot position. I have very similar a similar stance to his because if I try to go even 1" wider, I feel pinching in both hips and I can no longer squat to depth. Do you guys think that his stance might be a morphological limitation rather than a technical one? If you do think it could be morphological, is there anything you would do with an athlete in order to attempt to widen the stance? Cheers!
@polgzz3 жыл бұрын
It happens the same to me! (but I need to point my feet a bit more to the sides). If I separate my legs more, I can't go deep anymore. It's all about how our femours attach into our hip sockets
@Morpheah3 жыл бұрын
Like PolGZ said, anteversion/retroversion, watch this for a simple test by Squat University kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5PHenqkjZd7nNU&ab_channel=SquatUniversity
@saraashkir57932 жыл бұрын
Look up squat university find the right stance. There’ll be two or three videos that mainly talk about this, and its just your anatomy. Your femurs might be attached to your hip at a more forward position so widening them would cause that pinch. But they give more details to find your optimal stance. I think what they pointed out with Ivan might be because his knees push wider in the middle of the squat so he might benefit from standing a bit wider, but yeah itd depend on his anatomy

I was surprised when you noted how Mike Israetel tilts his pelvis as a good thing. I was under the impression titling the pelvis like that would interfere with abdominal bracing and would shorten the hamstrings. Is this hip position something unique to a high bar squat with a more upright position?
